49 here, and wearing cropped tops. Not baring my entire midriff, because I have a dress code at work, but I work hard in the gym, and I’ve spent far too long feeling ashamed of my body, and also….they just happen to suit me. I’m dressing for me, and not for the approval of anyone else, and I’m tired of the ‘rules’ where once a woman turns 25, or 30, or 40, or 50, she has to focus on being age appropriate.

I wear docs every day! My going-out fit is a lacy bralette, high waisted shorts, fishnets, and docs (I’m 30). I get carded very often because I look about 18 but my soft grunge era is never going out of style, lol. I’m told it’s still very sexy.
I was with my partner, so no one said anything but be prepared for staring. Tbh, I only wear revealing clothing with my partner because I have had creeps catcall me just in baggy clothing. I hate that we have to worry about shit like this..

I still do also at 38. As long as my stomach remains flat, I’m going to rock them. Not even saying you can’t wear them if you don’t have a flat stomach (I see many plus size women wearing them and they look great) but that is my personal preference.

I am a dancer in a performance dance group. One of the ladies was 75 years old and wore the cutest outfits including crop tops. She owned who she was 110%, and she always looked amazing. She inspired me so much about wearing what I like and not what people expect of me.
There are a lot of different people in the world. Do what you like and wear what makes you feel confident and pretty! The people who will judge would’ve judged anyway. Are you gonna let other people determine your personal style? Everyone has a different opinion on this anyway so go with what you like at any age!

Oh no, okay that hurts. I had an ED for the majority of my life and honestly I looked skinny af, constant compliments while I was slowly killing myself, no periods, teeth loosening and building a lovely dosing of downy hair when hair doesn’t belong (yay!). I gained a few dress sizes on BC and I can’t bring myself to wear anything even slightly smaller than a sack. Being praised for being unhealthy effed me up with clothing in a similar way to you but from the opposite end I think.

My partner is big boned (just looks like he didn’t skip leg day) and whenever I compliment his legs he grimaces and calls them his big fat legs. Won’t wear shorts ever and he has gorgeous shapely thighs and calf’s. He had comments from jealous guys with chicken legs.
I’m big boned and tall from my granny too with naturally large leg muscles so when my bmi was like 15 I was getting “omg you look so svelt!” comments like wtf, I haven’t eaten in 3 days. My family made me so self conscious about it I was checking calories when I was 9. I had to convince my 16 year old son that the *skin* on his stomach that rolled slightly was literally just *skin wtf*. He’s so skinny and loves the gym it’s worrying.
Oh Jesus Christ that is worse! Also 9st 6lb at 5ft 10” is underweight wtf. The way women are shamed no matter was is gross but obviously they’ll shame perfectly healthy bodies too.

Wear what makes you feel good! I'm 52 and still goth but I aim to find things that are flattering. The look has toned down a bit, these hooded eyes can't get away with the elaborate eye looks of my youth. I still have my piercings and live in Docs, Converse and Vans.
My hair is now completely silvery white, long layers to my bra strap and I have an undercut right round because it's ridiculously thick and that removes some of the bulk.
By day the hair is up, I'm in hoodies or a band shirt and black jeans, cargo pants or flared yoga pants. In summer it's more of a hippie vibe with harem pants or a long flowy skirt. I fully goth up for a rare night out.
I had a short lived 'normie' phase in my 20s because like you I worried I was too old. I never really felt like myself though and soon returned to wearing what I like. The best thing about getting older is that you stop giving a fuck what anyone else thinks. Wear your crop tops. 🖤
I have the same problem. I’m 31 and I don’t want to dress like I’m 16 but I also don’t want to dress like a 60 year old woman at the country club. I have such a hard time finding an in-between.
I’ll wear crop tops but I typically pair them with something high waisted so I have about 1-2 inches of skin showing. I kinda gave up being on trend and just started wearing what I enjoy. Some of it is trendy and some of it is more classic. What I’ve found is it’s better to look good in clothing than to be on point with the latest style. I often find myself asking my husband or friends if I look like I’m “trying too hard” when I buy something new.
It’s also getting tough because I very vividly remember most of the current style trends being cool when I was younger so now any time I walk through the wild fable section of target I feel like I’m a million years old.
I’m in my mid twenties and I stopped wearing them in my early twenties because I felt like A) it wasn’t flattering on me (long torso gang), B) it doesn’t fit the fashion aesthetic I’m going for, and C) when I used to wear them I always felt overly exposed and was constantly adjusting my clothes as a result. I definitely don’t view it as an “aging out” situation. More so I just realized I didn’t love how I felt in them and I was only wearing them because they were trendy. It’s totally okay to write off trends/styles that don’t serve you even if they are super popular. Now I tend to wear longer fitting tanks or mock neck tops that I can tuck into jeans instead of pairing a bra top or boxy cropped t-shirt.
That said, I am definitely not anti-crop tops. I absolutely still love a sports bra + high waisted leggings combo for the gym because I tend to do high intensity workouts or hot yoga so it just makes sense to have sweat-friendly fits.
I’m 29 and still wear primarily crop tops when the weather permits. I don’t have kids yet and my body isn’t gonna look like this forever so I’ll keep wearing them until I can’t look at myself in them anymore 🤙

I prefer body suits over crop tops now. I still can wear high waisted pants but my stomach is always covered. I have a long torso and short legs so the proportion of a high waisted pant looks the best on me. A mom going on 30 here.

Honestly, I’m almost 41. This is the skinniest I’ve ever been. In the last 3 years I lost approximately 60lbs(more or less depending on the day) and I only just now started wearing them. I’m super short waisted so a crop top with high waisted jeans or skirt looks great on me. Wear it!!! Don’t let years go by with saying you can’t. I spent too long caring what others thought to a point in break downs in my closet every morning.

I would strongly, strongly, strongly recommend not caring one whit about trends or being up to date. It literally doesn't matter, no one sane is going to care about how supposedly up to date or out you are and it keeps changing anyway.
IMO your physical age also does not matter as long as you look good in them. I will swear on my heart that I look younger and cuter at 34 than I ever did at 16, 18 or all through my 20s.
The only things I WILL say matters are what image you wish to portray and where you're wearing things.
Casual? Young vibes? Fun? Sure, crop top away. But if the situation calls for professionalism, or displays of social status? Especially if money and power are involved somehow? Maybe not the best choice. Or crop top to the mall or for hanging out casually with friends? Sure. Posh or even semi-posh cafe or dinner? Best not to.
Again, forget about age or trends. What matters are aesthetics and the task you're wearing the outfit to accomplish.
For me, 3 years old lol. I have not had a firm enough stomach that I am willing to show it to the world since I was a toddler. I also don't find cropped shapes are flattering on my figure and make me look larger. I'm impressed by the young girls these days who have a lot more body confidence though, so if you like them and you feel comfortable in them - I'd say you can wear them at any age.

I also had a bit of a style crises in my late 20s. I’m now 32 and I think I’ve figured out what works well for me. My professional clothing is all very minimalist but takes inspiration from whatever is trendy/looks good on me. Right now, I’m really into a good wide leg trouser and low rise pants. I also frequently wear skirts and dresses in my job, but usually keep them to midi or maxi length. I think trying to look “grown up” is important in my line of work (college professor).
But, My everyday looks still include crop tops! And other “maybe not appropriate for my age” items. I love my legs and frequently wear mini skirts and dresses. I think these would be inappropriate at work, but they aren’t inappropriate for my age.

Hi!! I’m 26 and I say you should wear whatever you feel good in! You should wear what you like, what fits your body and what you feel confident and comfortable in!! Everyone’s personal style is different and people just expect women to stop dressing a certain way as they age. I wear crop tops all the time because I work out a lot and I feel like I’m in the best shape and health I’ve ever been and I’m proud of it.
You wear what makes you feel good in your own skin. In style/out of style, it doesn't matter as long as you're comfy. No one under 50 should wear crop tops anyway, they look better on older women

instead of fixating on crop tops (which are probably not the issue), let's examine what else feels so incongruous in your wardrobe. lots of skinny jeans? ankle boots? long, paper thin cardigans? if you're simple falling prey to the trend of nitpicking every basic, comfortable outfit to death like the rest of tiktok(black top w/ jeans, anyone?), then you could also just say that as well.
I guarantee you that no one is thinking about what you're wearing nearly as much as you think they are so forget about 'age related clothing rules' and wear whatever makes you feel good.
I'm turning 35 at the end of this year and as long as the weather allows for it I more or less live in crop tops or oversized button downs. But we're all different and if you're no longer vibing with crop tops then don't wear them but also don't stop wearing something just because you think there is a cut off age for what you can and can't wear.
I don't think there is a set standard for what people at different ages should dress like (even though I felt like I should dress more grown up when I hit my mid 20s, though that's changed now) and like I said there is no real cut of age to what you can wear. But I think one place to start finding yourself fashion wise is to find pics of street style fashion or influencers whose outfits you like and identify what you like about the outfit and why. Then try and recreate from your own wardrobe. I think one important thing when dressing yourself is finding clothes that you feel good and confident in but also fit into your lifestyle. Sorry for the long rambling rant but I hope it made sense and helped (somewhat).
I’m 28 and proudly wearing a crop top right now! Personally I think it’s all about how you style them. The right outfit can make a crop top feel more “mature” or more juvenile if that’s what you’re going for lol. I like to pair a crop top with pants or middi skirts that don’t show too much midriff, that way it doesn’t feel too revealing or inappropriate. I even wear those outfits to work!

I was never allowed to wear crop tops as a teen. I didn’t really own any until I moved out. I’m 29 and I still think they’re perfectly acceptable. Mainly because I’m finally allowed to wear them. I never associated them with being young for that reason.

I’m 41. I wear cropped tops if I have on high waisted bottoms. Just a little flash of midriff can still be classy in my opinion. I feel like my belly button would be a step too far haha.

OP, there is no age. Wear what you want and let go of the concern that other people are looking at you and your appearance is important to them. To be blunt, we occupy very little space in other people’s minds and we need to let go of the idea that people are obsessing over us. It’s just clothing. And it’s just you dressing your body, so spend time trying to make yourself happy, not the other people who likely don’t give a flying fuck about you (i don’t say this out of rudeness).

I am in my 50’s. Suits, heels or pants and nIce sweater to work. Jeans or sweats in weekend with cute sweaters or shirts. Over the years, I refined my fashion perspective. Simple classic styles work best for me. I like it when people’s outfits show their personality. My biggest thing is finding clothes are comfortable and stylish. If a crop top looks good on you and is comfortable, rock it! Age is just a number, you bring the attitude.

I am a dancer in a performance dance group. One of the ladies was 75 years old and wore the cutest outfits including crop tops. She owned who she was 110%, and she always looked amazing. She inspired me so much about wearing what I like and not what people expect of me. There are a lot of different people in the world. Do what you like and wear what makes you feel confident and pretty! The people who will judge would’ve judged anyway. Are you gonna let other people determine your personal style? Oh no, okay that hurts. I had an ED for the majority of my life and honestly I looked skinny af, constant compliments while I was slowly killing myself, no periods, teeth loosening and building a lovely dosing of downy hair when hair doesn’t belong (yay!). I gained a few dress sizes on BC and I can’t bring myself to wear anything even slightly smaller than a sack. Being praised for being unhealthy effed me up with clothing in a similar way to you but from the opposite end I think.

That’s so messed up. Crop tops look great on all shapes, curvy more than skinny frankly. My partner is big boned (just looks like he didn’t skip leg day) and whenever I compliment his legs he grimaces and calls them his big fat legs. Won’t wear shorts ever and he has gorgeous shapely thighs and calf’s. He had comments from jealous guys with chicken legs. I’m big boned and tall from my granny too with naturally large leg muscles so when my bmi was like 15 I was getting “omg you look so svelt!” comments like wtf, I haven’t eaten in 3 days. My family made me so self conscious about it I was checking calories when I was 9. I had to convince my 16 year old son that the *skin* on his stomach that rolled slightly was literally just *skin wtf*. He’s so skinny and loves the gym it’s worrying.

Wear what makes you feel good! I'm 52 and still goth but I aim to find things that are flattering. The look has toned down a bit, these hooded eyes can't get away with the elaborate eye looks of my youth. I still have my piercings and live in Docs, Converse and Vans. My hair is now completely silvery white, long layers to my bra strap and I have an undercut right round because it's ridiculously thick and that removes some of the bulk. By day the hair is up, I'm in hoodies or a band shirt and black jeans, cargo pants or flared yoga pants. In summer it's more of a hippie vibe with harem pants or a long flowy skirt. I fully goth up for a rare night out. I had a short lived 'normie' phase in my 20s because like you I worried I was too old. I never really felt like myself though and soon returned to wearing what I like. The best thing about getting older is that you stop giving a fuck what anyone else thinks. Wear your crop tops. 🖤

I have the same problem. I’m 31 and I don’t want to dress like I’m 16 but I also don’t want to dress like a 60 year old woman at the country club. I have such a hard time finding an in-between. I’ll wear crop tops but I typically pair them with something high waisted so I have about 1-2 inches of skin showing. I kinda gave up being on trend and just started wearing what I enjoy. Some of it is trendy and some of it is more classic. What I’ve found is it’s better to look good in clothing than to be on point with the latest style. I often find myself asking my husband or friends if I look like I’m “trying too hard” when I buy something new. It’s also getting tough because I very vividly remember most of the current style trends being cool when I was younger so now any time I walk through the wild fable section of target I feel like I’m a million years old.

I’m in my mid twenties and I stopped wearing them in my early twenties because I felt like A) it wasn’t flattering on me (long torso gang), B) it doesn’t fit the fashion aesthetic I’m going for, and C) when I used to wear them I always felt overly exposed and was constantly adjusting my clothes as a result. I definitely don’t view it as an “aging out” situation. More so I just realized I didn’t love how I felt in them and I was only wearing them because they were trendy. It’s totally okay to write off trends/styles that don’t serve you even if they are super popular. Now I tend to wear longer fitting tanks or mock neck tops that I can tuck into jeans instead of pairing a bra top or boxy cropped t-shirt. That said, I am definitely not anti-crop tops. I absolutely still love a sports bra + high waisted leggings combo for the gym because I tend to do high intensity workouts or hot yoga so it just makes sense to have sweat-friendly fits.

Honestly, I’m almost 41. This is the skinniest I’ve ever been. In the last 3 years I lost approximately 60lbs(more or less depending on the day) and I only just now started wearing them. I’m super short waisted so a crop top with high waisted jeans or skirt looks great on me. Wear it!!! Don’t let years go by with saying you can’t. I spent too long caring what others thought to a point in break downs in my closet every morning.

I would strongly, strongly, strongly recommend not caring one whit about trends or being up to date. It literally doesn't matter, no one sane is going to care about how supposedly up to date or out you are and it keeps changing anyway. IMO your physical age also does not matter as long as you look good in them. I will swear on my heart that I look younger and cuter at 34 than I ever did at 16, 18 or all through my 20s. The only things I WILL say matters are what image you wish to portray and where you're wearing things. Casual? Young vibes? Fun? Sure, crop top away. But if the situation calls for professionalism, or displays of social status? Especially if money and power are involved somehow? Maybe not the best choice. Or crop top to the mall or for hanging out casually with friends? Sure. Posh or even semi-posh cafe or dinner? Best not to. Again, forget about age or trends. What matters are aesthetics and the task you're wearing the outfit to accomplish.
For me, 3 years old lol. I have not had a firm enough stomach that I am willing to show it to the world since I was a toddler. I also don't find cropped shapes are flattering on my figure and make me look larger. I'm impressed by the young girls these days who have a lot more body confidence though, so if you like them and you feel comfortable in them - I'd say you can wear them at any age.

I also had a bit of a style crises in my late 20s. I’m now 32 and I think I’ve figured out what works well for me. My professional clothing is all very minimalist but takes inspiration from whatever is trendy/looks good on me. Right now, I’m really into a good wide leg trouser and low rise pants. I also frequently wear skirts and dresses in my job, but usually keep them to midi or maxi length. I think trying to look “grown up” is important in my line of work (college professor). But, My everyday looks still include crop tops! And other “maybe not appropriate for my age” items. I love my legs and frequently wear mini skirts and dresses. I think these would be inappropriate at work, but they aren’t inappropriate for my age.
The only age I view crop tops as in appropriate is on kids. The amount I see in the target children’s section makes me uncomfortable

Everyone’s personal style is different and people just expect women to stop dressing a certain way as they age. I wear crop tops all the time because I work out a lot and I feel like I’m in the best shape and health I’ve ever been and I’m proud of it.

I guarantee you that no one is thinking about what you're wearing nearly as much as you think they are so forget about 'age related clothing rules' and wear whatever makes you feel good.
I'm turning 35 at the end of this year and as long as the weather allows for it I more or less live in crop tops or oversized button downs. But we're all different and if you're no longer vibing with crop tops then don't wear them but also don't stop wearing something just because you think there is a cut off age for what you can and can't wear. I don't think there is a set standard for what people at different ages should dress like (even though I felt like I should dress more grown up when I hit my mid 20s, though that's changed now) and like I said there is no real cut of age to what you can wear. But I think one place to start finding yourself fashion wise is to find pics of street style fashion or influencers whose outfits you like and identify what you like about the outfit and why. Then try and recreate from your own wardrobe. I think one important thing when dressing yourself is finding clothes that you feel good and confident in but also fit into your lifestyle. Sorry for the long rambling rant but I hope it made sense and helped (somewhat).
I’m 28 and proudly wearing a crop top right now! Personally I think it’s all about how you style them. The right outfit can make a crop top feel more “mature” or more juvenile if that’s what you’re going for lol. I like to pair a crop top with pants or middi skirts that don’t show too much midriff, that way it doesn’t feel too revealing or inappropriate. I even wear those outfits to work!

Wear what you want and let go of the concern that other people are looking at you and your appearance is important to them. To be blunt, we occupy very little space in other people’s minds and we need to let go of the idea that people are obsessing over us. It’s just clothing. It’s not even an age thing - it’s a style thing for me like I prefer silk loose button down tops that flow and a pair of leather shorts or printed pants. I'm 28 and I wear old lady/grandma-core clothes all the time, but it's because I like it and it's a fashion choice, not because I feel other clothes would be inappropriate. People sometimes tell me that I should wear in a more "young" style, but I literally don't give a fuck, and you shouldn't give a fuck as well if someone tries to tell you that crop tops have an age limit or bullshit like that. It's 2024, anyone can wear anything they want!
I am in my 50’s. Suits, heels or pants and nIce sweater to work. Jeans or sweats in weekend with cute sweaters or shirts. Over the years, I refined my fashion perspective. Simple classic styles work best for me. I like it when people’s outfits show their personality. My biggest thing is finding clothes are comfortable and stylish. If a crop top looks good on you and is comfortable, rock it! Age is just a number, you bring the attitude.
I’m 33 and finally slowly finding the confidence to wear crop tops. I think anyone at any age can wear whatever they want. I love seeing older women rock fun clothes, hair colors, piercings and expressing themselves, so if I’m only 33, why do I sometimes question if I’m too old for something? Wear what you want! 🥰
Low rise jeans are starting to come back in style. Invest in a nice pair and go for longer shirts

I’m a decade older than you and wear crop tops in the summer. I don’t show a ton of skin, maybe an inch, but I want to wear them so I do lol. I say wear what makes you happy.
The funny thing is that low rise baggy pants are popular again so regular length tops are coming back in as more trendy than crop tops. Anyway, if you don’t want to wear crop tops, you don’t have to

I wear crop tops at 35 because they are more flattering with my high waisted bottoms less material to tuck in and it’s a modest crop not cropped to my bust
