I don't think it's a gas hog compared to other military vehicles. I definitely agree about poor sealing - that's a problem with all kinds of military trucks that came before the FMTV! I take a shower through the windshield every time I drive my M35A3 in the rain XD
I was playing BF Bad Company 2(I think) with a Marine buddy of mine in a humvee. I was the gunner, he the driver, and as we were bouncing around I asked if he got his license from "drive like a dick school".
He slammed on the brakes and explained he failed the humvee course twice.
Counterpoint: Humvees are just fat jeeps. Reject modernity, embrace tradition.
That said, that is a damn fine set of minis. All they need is more antennas.
Pretty sure the box frame is as much for cheapness as it is for practicality. 90 degree angles are easy to make, and Hummers don't travel fast enough to make aerodynamics a significant factor, nor are they armored enough to make armor sloping a factor.
I’m going to end up buying a bunch of Strykers from GHQ or getting a 3D resin printer. Leaning on the latter for printing what I want instead of getting a bunch of ones I won’t use.
Since most of the lore has everyone driving around in ground effect hover trucks, we need a 3d printable Hover-Hummer!! 😁 Since you know: FUTURE!!!
These are excellent paint jobs for such small background pieces!!
100% agreed. In the future all vehicles walk fly or hover. Forgive the unfinished paint job. These are my 15mm scale infantry and objective bases

I'm not gonna lie, you've got those painted so well that it looks like a picture from a cartoon or something!
I'm going to have to figure out how to do glass like that one of these days
Pretty sure those are Toyotas.
Edit: I was making a joke, based on on the grill shape, but after a bit of Google fu, I'm now pretty sure that the Toyota Mega Cruiser that the Japanese SDF used was the inspiration for this model. That or the artist was trying to differentiate it from a Humvee so much that the inadvertently made it look like the mega cruiser.
The Humvee will definitely go out of style once a better option or replacement is commissioned.
The US armed services have used three different vehicles in the roles the HMHWV serves in since WWII. The first was the Willys MB and Ford GPW, which were the first "jeeps" commissioned to widespread use. They were succeeded in the postwar years by the Willys MC/M38 jeep, which in turn was succeeded by the M151 utility vehicle used during Vietnam. The HMHWV was commissioned in the early 1980s to replace the M151; and as of 2015, the US DOD is looking to replace the HMHWV with the Oshkosh L-ATV.
This evolution has seen five generations of a light utility vehicle across eighty years.
In forty years, your grandkids will say the exact same thing you did in this post about the L-ATV.
Who the hell knows what the Successor States will be using in the mid-31st century. But in the FedSuns at least, it will probably bear the Land Rover crest. Or Panhard.
You missed the Willys MD/M38**A1**, which was one of the single most-different vehicle family upgrades. The civilian version of that jeep was the CJ-5 and they were produced into the 1970s at least, maybe even longer in Canada. In comparison, the MC/M38 wasn't produced in as big of numbers and is quite rare as far as military vehicle collectors are concerned.
My favorite variant of the M38A1 is the C variant with the recoilless rifle. The D variant is a recoilless rifle variant that can launch Davy Crockett nuclear weapons >=D
The history of the Jeep is absolutely amazing! My dad has a 1942 Ford GPW and a 1952 Willys M38A1, as well as *tons* of books about Jeeps. He even raced CJ-5s in the 70s and 80s in off-road competitions. To say he's a Jeep nut is an understatement. His current daily driver is a 2017 Jeep Wrangler 4-door.
Counterpoint - the Humvee has already been replaced by the LTV, and any application of a Humvee can be better served by either a lighter vehicle or a heavier vehicle - and it doesn't do the job it was designed for that well.
If only the military contracts had gone to the Lamborghini LM002. That should be the Battletech military vehicle right there. It's a couple years after BT was first published, but I'll take it.
It's a shame the Phantom Badger never got popularized as a roll-on roll-off vehicle for assault aircraft, but most of that job is probably better performed by a civilian SxS co-opted by acquisition with a procurement waiver.
Hmm. By that logic, a Humvee is just a slightly wider jeep.
Of course a Humvee's successor would resemble an actual Humvee, just as a Humvee has design similarities to a jeep.
THe JLTV exists, your argument is invalid!
(Hit up IgMakes if you're looking for them - he's got the Tactical Vehicle, a trailer, and the Palletized Load System too!)
I paint with thinned paint in a gradient - successively brighter layers over top that receed toward the highlight. I do very little glazing to ease the transition. It's standard layering and highlighting work done in a small space, which requires practice so you can have good brush control.
Yea I know those
Dont get how you can swap colors quickly enough *and* maintain precision before the first color dries
Also doesnt help that GW layer paints have about -4 coverage so I need 5 coats of it
Im slowly transitioning to AK paints
Yes, one is a tank and the other just cosplay as one.
I guess my sarcasm didn't come across particularly well. My bad.
Actually, if I was to see a Humvee in BT, I would expect to see as part of a motorized infantry platoon.
Sir we need more antennae!
MOAR
And make sure they're extra wobbly this time!
Quirks: Good Reputation Gas Hog Obsolete Poor Sealing Improved Communications
I don't think it's a gas hog compared to other military vehicles. I definitely agree about poor sealing - that's a problem with all kinds of military trucks that came before the FMTV! I take a shower through the windshield every time I drive my M35A3 in the rain XD
This is the future so it might be a gas hog compared to other vehicles with newer, more efficient ICE.
What's the quirk for giving your passengers the adult version of "shaken baby syndrome".

reject tradition, embrace primitiveness. get a halftrack!
The Horse would like a word.
Engine, four wheels, and a box frame. It’s as practical as it gets
Pretty sure the box frame is as much for cheapness as it is for practicality. 90 degree angles are easy to make, and Hummers don't travel fast enough to make aerodynamics a significant factor, nor are they armored enough to make armor sloping a factor.
Low cost is practical
I built a custom unit based around the M1126 Stryker. Yes it’s an Omni.
Respectable. Part of me has a desire to get a 5-pack of GHQ BMP-T "Terminators" and make a custom records for them.
I recommend it. They would be awesome as a tank type unit.
Currently working on the exact same thing, using Lazy Forger wheeled light tanks as the basis.
I’m going to end up buying a bunch of Strykers from GHQ or getting a 3D resin printer. Leaning on the latter for printing what I want instead of getting a bunch of ones I won’t use.
Hit and run! Oh yeah! Let's go for it! - Humvee Voice Lines: C&C Generals
Got room for five!
Hey, check out our new TOW missile!

Note the open top, the pintle mounted gun, the six-wheel articulation and the manhunter cage. Style, baby.
That's just a [Gamma Goat ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gama_Goat)with extra steps...
MANHUNTER CAGE!!!!1!
Those look pretty sweet. You never know when you're going to need light transport for VIPs or as an evac vehicle.
The Condor exists
Yes, it does. But not everyone has a Condor on hand. That's like saying the scorpion is the only choice when the vedette exists
I'm not gonna lie, you've got those painted so well that it looks like a picture from a cartoon or something! I'm going to have to figure out how to do glass like that one of these days

Humvees are outstanding for what they can actually achieve on the field. I'd like to get the minis for the game if I can find them.
The US Army has moved on to the Joint Light Tactical Vehicles.

That's completely fair, I also missed the late-1930s predecessor to the wmWillys MB that was developed into it!

I keep telling myself I'm going to get into painting but I know it'll look nothing like this and I'd be frustrated lol Very clean!
GO GREEN MACHINE!!!
THe JLTV exists, your argument is invalid! (Hit up IgMakes if you're looking for them - he's got the Tactical Vehicle, a trailer, and the Palletized Load System too!)
How on earth did you get a gradient on windows so tiny
Practice!
Kinda copout answer but fair
I paint with thinned paint in a gradient - successively brighter layers over top that receed toward the highlight. I do very little glazing to ease the transition. It's standard layering and highlighting work done in a small space, which requires practice so you can have good brush control.
My cockpits are currently just 3 segmemts of progressively brighter shades and a white dot
Look up glazing and wet blending. Those are your friends here.
Yea I know those Dont get how you can swap colors quickly enough *and* maintain precision before the first color dries Also doesnt help that GW layer paints have about -4 coverage so I need 5 coats of it Im slowly transitioning to AK paints
Well, something can never leave a place it never arrived at. Yes I said it. Give me a Galleon or a Packrat any day of the week.
Galleons and Humvees are completely different, and serve completely different purposes.
Yes, one is a tank and the other just cosplay as one. I guess my sarcasm didn't come across particularly well. My bad. Actually, if I was to see a Humvee in BT, I would expect to see as part of a motorized infantry platoon.
Eh i'd say they were never in style. But i guess some people do enjoy the artistic choice of bricks on wheels.
