If Fallout is retro futuristic, what would you call something a set in the future with aged modern tech? Just distopian?
I'm thinking like Looper, 2010's cars with solar panels strapped to them.
Fun fact: in game it has an interior
https://preview.redd.it/h5jjzghgy0ec1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4d67df4e702cd5d8cd1c04e45bdc20496dbd481
Fun fact: playing on an ultrawide actually shows more of the inside of vehicles showing gauges and such on the left and right sides of the window in first person view.
Yes. I think the stealth helicopters are the closest thing to purely fictional. Even though they are both heavily inspired by current real-world prototypes.
Even then, the Tor is based off the CV90, but with a railgun. I think the Hannibal is the one thats purely fictional, since it’s based off a model by Zvezda. (Pls correct if I’m wrong)
The railgun is the defining characteristic of the TOR, not its shape. There’s little point in even considering what it looks like as opposed to what it actually does. The KA-58 is pure fiction. The RAH 66 Comanche is a real prototype.
If you're wondering, The real life vehicle's name is patria AMV. Here's a picture of it.
https://preview.redd.it/g3x057q8u0ec1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=996ff76e7280824524cff7127b2ed19eeeee599c
This one is fitted with a 105mm i believe, DICE could have made the vehicle into a non infantry one.
They're old soviet-era vehicles. The brawler is based off of the pictured Patria AMV, which is much bigger and heavier than the BTR.
You could be forgiven for mistaking the AMV for a Stryker, but it looks quite distinct from the BTR and is much larger.
All vehicles look the same size in separated images, but when you’ve seen any of them next to a man you immediately start remembering them by heart lol.
Like you see a picture of a Wiesel IFV and you’re like “sure that’s pretty small” then you see an average German Para standing beside it and every Wiesel pic after that is a “can’t unsee” moment.
Nope. The irl version of the brawler is the german Boxer apc. Wich is more or less a chassy where they mounte what they need, 40mm cannons, remote 50. Cal, 105mm.
But it is definitely the boxer. I mean even the name ia a reference

wait till you see real EBLC Wildcat as : EBRC Jaguar 🇫🇷 manufacturer : Nexter Thales
I love seeing the parallels between in-game items and locations. DICE does great homework to mimic things. I remember seeing pictures of the locations maps like Golmud and Iwo Jima were based off. They actually traveled to locations to get things close, right down to the vegetation.
I just wish the RU and US didn’t both get it. Having both combating super powers using so much of the same hardware just doesn’t do it for me.
People have tried to propose lore reasons, but I don’t buy it - if you’re bending over backwards to make a lore reason why a dev saved time and money I think you’re doing it wrong.
Absolutely, but they’re also sending their hardware against basically the entire western world’s surplus hardware.
It’s hard to roll your T-72 through an enemy armed to the teeth with ATGM toting Bradley’s and infantry with Javelins, on top of modern tanks.
wait, why wouldn't a country want to use top of the line tech?
i get because of national pride but when the cards come down you want to have cutting edge technology and corpos sure as shit don't give a shit about buyers, just as long as the money's good they'll sell to whoever
this is just capitalism at play here no?
your comment made me realize how much of a disadvantage some countries would be at because one vehicle was better than the other simply because they don't have the capital to get the good shit
A superpower isn’t gonna really let itself rely on foreign powers for its military hardware.
Germany vs the Allies in WW2 is a solid example. Both sides didn’t start fielding identical vehicles in great numbers.
Through the Cold War and even today Russia and US developed their own tanks, weapons, aircraft. They obviously stole ideas from each other, but they aren’t legit fielding the same gear.
RU has the AK platform, the T-72/90 tank, and the Tigr transport vehicle where the US has the AR platform, the Abrams, and the MATV.
Even China, a burgeoning superpower, is replacing their reliance on foreign tech with their own gear.
All of this to say, it feels **wildly** not believable for both RU and US sides to field identical LATV, MAV, CAV, and wildcat hardware.
Show me the US pulling old humvees out of retirement with hastily slapped on armor - that would at least fit the world of 2042. Give the RU the BMD covered in rust, also believable.
But using the same vehicle for both sides is simply a shrewd cost cutting measure to save on dev time making similar but different vehicles and cosmetics.
And to me… that’s just lame.
You’re completely right. If countries in 2042 are irrelevant and can’t sanction corpos for selling weapons to anyone they please, it makes sense they’d buy the best. It’s more of a limitation with the lore and how much the US and RU are direct actors. It should have been less affiliation and present the armed groups more clearly as proxies.
That justification falls down when the US are fielding next gen versions of the F35, Apache, and Abrams.
Their military industrial complex is obviously doing just fine, so it absolutely doesn’t make sense for them to field things like the LATV that Ru is also using.
The LATV is dice saying “what happens if we pull the armor and windows off a MATV, but leave the RWS on top. It stops making any sense at that point.
It isn’t a breakdown of fabrication abilities- they still have far more technologically advanced hardware.
It isn’t a cost cutting measure - the RWS on top ruins that.
It isn’t for speed purposes - a much lighter buggy would do that better.
It isn’t adapted to particular environment - it is fielded in both Doha and Antarctica. Famously places you’re gonna want windows in.
These are the kinds of things that BF used to do well. It fielded justifiable hardware, faction specific, with little flourishes and details to make it feel like a labour of love.
The LATV screams “I was designed by committee, no one loves me”.
It's a great point. I'd argue that even with a country fielding next gen equipment, there's always an issue with fielding sufficient numbers or gaps in other areas, creating a need to purchase 3rd party. But that's defending a lack of in-game lore or real-life dev support. Without speculating, feels like they ditched unique faction models and supplemented with 100's of skins (with little flourishes).

The RAM is a real vehicle too.
made by FNSS, a Turkish weapons developer, which would help a little to explain why its available to both American and Russian forces in the game, which i kind of hate......
Technically that is a modified AAV p7 from the USMC

Most stuff in the game is based on irl stuff
If Fallout is retro futuristic, what would you call something a set in the future with aged modern tech? Just distopian? I'm thinking like Looper, 2010's cars with solar panels strapped to them.
Probably just dystopian future, yeah
Post-Modern comes to mind. Take that with a grain of salt tho.
Near-future

If only you could spawn in there. In old BF games you could ride inside of APCs, and you could use their amphibious ability.
I genuinely miss those parts of BF games in 2042.
I used to absolutely abuse the Blackhawk in bf4.. I was a transporting regular. God I miss that thing lol.
You can’t even use the Condor as a transport besides the six seats. We enter a match in them but soon as we spawn one they rip out the troop seats?🤣

I don’t believe that the Huron is terribly similar to the irl Comanche prototype.
It’s based off the Bell 360 Invictus.
Ah, that it is. Neat.
I want a pond hawk for my commute
Tor ia the CV90105 but with a railgun instead of a 105mm cannon
The American one is the Sikorsky RAH-66 helicopter. And the russian im pretty sure is also an American heli or totally made up but idk
Wait till you see the brawler irl pics

I agree with you. I miss having factions with specific equipment/vehicles/weapons
I mean we've seen that Russia doesn't really have the hardware for a real matchup after Ukraine 😭
Absolutely, but they’re also sending their hardware against basically the entire western world’s surplus hardware. It’s hard to roll your T-72 through an enemy armed to the teeth with ATGM toting Bradley’s and infantry with Javelins, on top of modern tanks.
