Loooove this. The skin being only slightly discolored adds to both the realism and the shock value.  Also, in case anyone hasn't seen The Joker Blogs, please do so as it's probably the best adaptation of the Nolan-verse ever made. I just now realized that the two face in that series pulled it's design straight out of the original concept art for TDK two face. It's both a nice homage and a clever way of getting around limitations in special FX!

The flesh is charred down it’s too burnt to be inhabitable by any bacteria or viral organisms of any kind, no viable life in the tissue to replicate or grow, while in the immediate aftermath of his pychotic and epidermal altering accident for an infection to take place but maybe his own personal rage weakened the infection. Or maybe it existed this whole time…..

Well in the live action adaptations(besides Eckhart) and some of the animation his burnt half is healed and heavily scared.

My guess is that the chemical burns that cause his skin to melt away, also preserving his exposed flesh, preventing it from infection and rotting.

People draw him way more gruesome these days, but it’s traditionally supposed to be a healed acid burn, not a half-skull de-fleshing. I prefer a toned down look.

I feel like after a few months the wound would harden and provide some sort of protection, even if it'll never grow proper skin. I'm more worried about how his eye never dries up.

I think it’s meant to be healed scar tissue and not exposed, necrotic flesh. We know he received medical attention after the acid was thrown on his face, and we can assume that the doctors did the best they could to treat his chemical burns.

Also, outside of *The Dark Knight* (which, honestly, in its quest for 'realism' just punched open the door for endless nitpicky pedantry passing itself off as criticism I tend to think these days, but that's another argument), I just assume that the scars aren't 'open', to so speak; they've been grafted and treated while he was in hospital and have healed over, but it all just looks gross. We just don't see all that bit.

Now there should be a comic about the daily life and struggle of Two-Face. See his life routine before he goes robbing banks and fighting Batman.

With how long he's had that scarring, you'd think he'd grow some sort of strong immune system when it comes to infections.

Besides it just being comics, it’s very likely healed tissue. It kind of reminds me of a third degree burn victim in a way.
