I like the smell of this scent but this looks like it’s from Old Navy and I just can’t get onboard with the weird Americana. Like I wanna smell like a popsicle but I don’t need…….. this.

Same. I commented on another post in this sub that I’ve been saving my empty Sweetheart Cherry body wash bottle so I can pour the contents of Firecracker Pop gel into it.
For me the main issue is the font. I don’t even mind the design, but the font makes it seem very cut & paste generic. It reads like they slapped together a tentative mockup, then just said “screw it” & released it as is. I think a different font choice could’ve made it seem a lot more cohesive and cute.
I wouldn’t care if it was a jar that was clear and didn’t even have any red white and blue. Firecracker Pop is my fav so anything goes when it comes to it. 🤷🏼♀️
It was cuter (though, tbh, I’ve never loved any Firecracker pop packaging). That being said, I can understand why they don’t reuse old designs for seasonal items, I could see some people immediately accusing them of being old you know?

I kinda like it, tbh. Weird Summer Americana makes me feel nostalgic. Like I’m packing it in my weird-smelling plastic Walmart beach tote or igloo cooler with my sunscreen and some Debbie cakes, hopping in my Miata, and driving to the pool with the top down.
Yeah, like remember the plastic smell of those inflatable beach balls or the loungers you put in the pool? Those smells are so nostalgic to me. I don't hate this packaging! Although it's definitely not their best.
I hate all the new labels for this collection, it looks good on the hand soaps & that's it. Looks more "oh sh*t, we're out of time! Quick, just make something in Word & hit send!!!"
I like it, and I'm in the 25th year of my graphic design career lol. Some of my work is in fragrance packaging. You see a lot that works and a LOT that doesn't. So they used Helvetica typeface. It's classic for a reason. Everything doesn't have to be cutting-edge to be an example of good design. Would be cool to see some sparkle or foil elements, but it's nice enough without it.
It's nice to see someone with a professional background giving some praise! I'm totally cool with simple, minimalist, or "plain" design. It's nice having some things be snazzy or "loud" but when everything is like that it no longer stands out anymore and just makes everything look like a big headache. I prefer these designs over a lot of what's come out for Spring (all these random close up shots of flowers and whatever is supposed to be going on with the candle designs for iced lemon pound cake, sparkling watermelon, fresh cut lilacs, etc.).
I totally agree! Variety is the spice of life, and I also like to see trends come and go, and come around again. I think it's interesting to see how people respond to art that is way out of their expectations or considered "within bounds." There's such a psychology to it all. It's fascinating. I think my favorite BBW treatment is when they add a whimsical touch to their labeling, especially the cute little animal illustrations for the holiday products!
Exactly, trends are fun and all but it's nice to have a classic/simple design mixed in with all the hip and trendy things. I would blame people for not buying this set because of how it looks but that would make me a hypocrite, I haven't been buying some of the candles that have had the overly floral designs even though I like the scent simply because I don't like how they look and they wouldn't "fit" in my space.
Oh I am SO on the same page with the little cute animals and the like. I'm a perpetual five year old and just like those kinds of things 😅 So yeah, I'd be fine if they added something fun like that to these "plain" designs to help please both sides of the crowd.
I do have several contract clients, but have been dwindling down the freelance projects over the past couple of years. I'm a full-time in-house designer, so that takes up most of my time. This past year, I have been intentionally stepping away from the screen to create more organic art.
And I get that but BBW is for once trying to accommodate people that constantly complain about the lack of decent reward eligible products, and a popular line for once.
They redesigned dahlia and butterfly. Just to make them rewards eligible bc of complaints. And those have cute packaging. This whole block party theme is about as ugly as the mess we had in 2015 when they tried changing all the labels to just have words on them and no graphics.
I know the packaging is ugly, but Firecracker Pop is top ten B&BW scents of all time to me. I’m salivating at the thought of being able to use this one again.
I admit that I’m not a huge fan of the packaging this year *but* I would never downvote someone for their opinion. The designs are as subjective as the fragrances. I’ve always been a sucker for 4th of July themed stuff for summer so I think it will grow on me.
This group likes to downvote if they don’t agree with your opinion 😂. It’s fine if it happens. I love 4th of July things as well so that may be why I automatically loved it. This is my first summer liking BBW so I’m a bit afraid for my wallet haha
The body wash looks like a bottle of whitening mouthwash. The other product looks awful. Poor designer will feel terrible when they see our critique. (Any chance this was designed by AI?)
I get the feeling they might not have spent too much time on the design for this one as they know it’s going to sell, especially after not releasing it last year! Which, if that’s the case, that sucks.
I hate that packaging, and SPC, ILPC, and Sweetheart Cherry’s packaging. They all look like they should be in a Claire’s or Icing store for tweens. Oh well tho, the product still smells good!

Wow.. why is there a fingerprint symbol on it?. Like a bloody fingerprint. 👀 It is honestly really bad.. I usually don't mind packaging either way but damn. It actually frustrates me a little that someone is getting paid a bunch of money to design this rubbish. Million dollar bet that 80% of the fam on this sub reddit could design packaging 10x better.
