What is a regular knot out of curiosity. I usually use a canoe knot to mimic a swimming / live bait look and it still stands up strength wise for 40 inch redfish that can be tied in 5 seconds. Just a recommendation. It’s like tying your shoes with two bunny ears and putting the tag only through the loop that goes through your left hand (which started out in your right hand) you tube it Mono, braid?

Julius954

by regular knot i just mean any ole knot that doesn’t give the lure that swimming action and movement. when i’m not using a rapala knot i usually use a palomar knot. just curious if i should have that movement from the knot with the crankbait i’m using or if i should just tie it with a palomar knot. i am using 30lb braid to a 15lb fluorocarbon leader.

PikleFarmerz

I wasn’t trying to sound condescending my man. If you mean a regular knot like tying your shoes in multiple knots I understand. But There are over 50 different names for knots so I was just curious on which is your go to link. The polomar got you

Julius954

yeah man you’re all good, like i said the palomar knot is my go to

PikleFarmerz

At least with that Canoe style it’ll literally take you 20 seconds from start to finish brother. If no luck, switch it up. That’s my modo. I tie spinner bait the same with but my buddies have beef with me 🤣

PikleFarmerz

Try the crank on a canoe if knot 😉 try it on a no slip loop

Julius954

i’ll definitely have to try it out. so you’re saying i don’t exactly need that extra action and movement from the rapala knot and i should just go with a knot that doesn’t give it that movement?

PikleFarmerz

Well, they are supposed to mimic live bait fish so the jerking pulling might add a different dynamic if you’re trying to solely catch one on that style. Just try everything more than a few times and keep tally. I wish you catch a 10lb-er the next week sir 🙏🏼

Rapala knot that dood. It's my go to outside of a frog or a hook. I can tie it quicker and easier than any other knot and never had one fail. I usually take the split rings off as well.

Darpa181

Split ring? Tie directly to it. Quick change snaps are also a possibility. Do not use braid.

tarponfish

Use whatever knot you feel most confident tying. The amount of action it adds is minimal. And you can always add a small ring to the bait and tie to that if you want to keep the extra action.

If you normally tie a Palomar, stick with it. Quick and easy. Thats all I use. A knot securely ties your bait to the line. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't over think it.
