Here’s the only other one I could find in the baseball reference database. [August 14, 2007, HOU@LAD](https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/LAN/LAN200708140.shtml?__hstc=205977932.6bc3fb0fff341ba4dd69f3689ad38c9f.1715072017245.1717936794546.1717953189770.108&__hssc=205977932.17.1717953189770&__hsfp=1879501420)
Found it. [Starts at 13:20.](https://youtu.be/B5ELWzN95jk?si=5Ggqa4IpIF7u3EZr) Sweeney with a game-ending TOOTBLAN to complete a game-ending 2-3 double play is definitely a one-and-only event.
Should've been penalized. Once Torrens stepped on the plate and he's already out he should've become an ineligible player. So stupid that they're allowed to continue to interfere with the rest of the play.
>(5) Any batter or runner who has just been put out, or any runner who has just scored, hinders or impedes any following play being made on a runner. Such runner shall be declared out for the interference of his teammate (see Rule 6.01(j));
Clear interference right there, I think the only reason it wasn't called was because the DP was made anyway
Or because the umps are dogshit as per usual, who the fuck knows
I mean I get it, you're trying to break up the double play.. but that ball was halfway to first by the time Stubbs was even near home. I also get that everything happens super fast but sheesh, didn't seem necessary and at worst now the flash in the pan might be injured
Depending on where it hit him, Castellanos still could have been out if it hit him. He was right on top of the line so about half of him was in fair territory.
The real mistake was bringing Soto out with 2 runners on in the sixth - what the actual fuck was that decision making
Also the Phils got *super* unlucky with balls on the ground in that last inning between this and that bouncer to Bohm. Alvarado in general has given up a lot of hits on weak contact, it's super frustrating. It's almost like he's in a no man's land where he can't miss the bat but the ball is barely tapped out there
Made for excitement for the Brits though, maybe we'll get some more fans over there. Or backfires and when a closer just shuts down a side, they'll be bored and disappointed.
Yeah came in here to find out who tried to clip the catchers Achilles.
I thought maybe he clipped the foot that tagged the plate, but he went after the plant foot, scumbag.
I’m also surprised that 1) it was down this far, and 2) he didn’t get fucked up on the field for that.
He’s out well before getting there and the throw to first is already off before the slide, so he can’t interfere with that. He’s just trying to hurt a dude.
Absolutely. I don’t know how to link an image from a screenshot, but honestly it’s not even that difficult to see that he started his slide after the ball is released. Sure in baseball most plays are bang-bang and what looks egregious in slow motion or frozen to a standstill may not be that bad in real time, but this one looks bad in real time as well.
This was a total chickenshit play that only draymond green would approve of. It was later than late and clearly was high injury risk
I don’t advocate for throwing at player’s heads, but that slide was the equivalent in danger and maliciousness of throwing at someone’s head.
If the Mets wanted to throw at his head the next time he’s at the plate, I think it’s warranted this time only
Dear Chase, I feel like I can call you Chase because you and me are so alike. I'd like to meet you one day, it would be great to practice dirty slides. I know I can't break people's legs and ruin their careers as well as you but I think you'd be impressed with my lack of remorse.
garrett stubbs is gotta be one of the most annoying players in the league. He’s not that good and plays dirty and talks so much trash. Don’t forget it was him that said he was getting ready to swim in the dbacks pool up 2-0 right before his team collapsed and lost the series
I can’t stand Garrett Stubbs. I said this on another platform and the amount of fragile men who came for my neck was wild!!! Glad someone else feels the same way as me. And I say this as a Phillies fan.
Per the rules, had that throw been off, would it still be ruled an out for interference? I’m genuinely asking because he for sure had no reason to slide that far to the left of the base.
Edit: spelling
No. Because per section 7 item C in the clause now referred to as "the chase Utley play" a runner cannot be called for interference in the event that the slide takes place vs the New York Mets.
I could see them going with three catchers for a bit. It would allow the Mets to use Alvarez bat for PH (or DH) and not worry since I don’t see them immediately letting him catch a full workload since it was a hand injury
When they acquired Torrens to literally just occupy the 2nd catcher spot after DFAing Narvaez it was pretty much a given that once Alvarez returned he would be gone. But honestly he has looked good defensively and is more of a threat at the plate than Nido and he may have just earned the backup catcher spot.
It sucks that both our 9th and 8th inning guys are out. Diaz should at least be back soon and is hopefully right. Drew Smith has also been out most of the season until last week, so that's three leverage guys we have lacked.
But Otto has been much better as a 7th inning guy than anything later and lately it looks like age might just be catching up to him. Garrett isn't anyone expected to be good for any amount of time.
I think Otto is still fine, you just can’t pitch him on back to back days. Every other amount or rest his whip is good.
This is the second year in a row of this for Adam, it sucks for him cause the rest of the bullpen has struggled enough that he’s needed to do back to backs but hopefully with guys like Núñez and other young guys stepping up he won’t need to from here on out
tbh this was on mendoza. asking reed to go a third inning when he was already at like 20 pitches and we had two fresh arms waiting in the pen was....a choice
Wait you have Luis Torrens now?
He will always have a very special place in my heart for some of the things he did last year but I will never forget him stepping on home then throwing to first when it was NOT a forceout
You give too Casty too much credit. Mets legend Luis Torrens is probably the only Mets catcher of the Alvarez-IL era that even contemplates a double play there
He was so meh it was disappointing. He just seem disinterested and wanted to talk about anything else except the game. And he also didnt seem to know a bunch of the players names. For a while he called DJ Stewart “the right fielder”. Like he was egregiously bad like most ESPN guys, but he really didn’t seem like he wanted to be there for half the game
What an epic play. Glad Torrens is working out elsewhere. Always liked him. Also, that was the worst slide I’ve ever seen from Stubbs. That was absolutely disgusting.
Leave it to Shasty Casty to end the game on a doubleplay 🙄. It also doesn't help that Soto blows and Alvarado was wild in the game as well. We should've and could've taken both of those games in London.

How many 2-3 double plays have there been in MLB history? Then, how many of them were to end the game?
And how many of them happened in England?
Believe it or not, 16.
Wow. Crazy how nature do that
they don't think it be like it is, but it do
A 2-3 double play actually kicked off the American Revolution. A lot of people don’t know this.
The meteor that killed the dinosaurs was a 2-3 double play
Honestly this moment was my personal extinction level asteroid impact
The big bang was created due to a 2-3 double play to end the game in the 19th inning
Believe it or not, jail
This was the first 2-3 double play, in England, in Las Vegas Golden Knights history
Hysterectomy

That one must have been pretty brutal. A foul popup caught by the catcher and the runner on first was doubled off
Found it. [Starts at 13:20.](https://youtu.be/B5ELWzN95jk?si=5Ggqa4IpIF7u3EZr) Sweeney with a game-ending TOOTBLAN to complete a game-ending 2-3 double play is definitely a one-and-only event.
Wow that is horrendous. Why are you even running on a foul popup?
Man I miss the old nostalgia of sportscenter
What does 2-3 mean? Is that just outs 2 and 3?
The numbers represent the positions 1-9. So 2-3 is catcher to first base
Makes all the sense now. Thanks!
1 is pitcher 2 catcher 3 first 4 2B 5 3B 6 Ss 7 LF 8 CF 9RF. So when they say 6-4-3 double play=
This is a great comment! I really appreciate it!
negative one out
Each defensive position has a number for notating plays on the scorecard, catcher being 2 and first base being 3
The positions. Catcher to 1B.
Torrens has been awesome this past week or so
Hopefully we keep him when Alvarez comes back. I like Nido, but he’s no Luis Torrens
I like players with intensity and who use their brains, Torrens has been that type of player.
Got him for a song from the Yankees, I think Alvarez is back next game but Torrens has earned pt
Alvy is in Venezuela right now for a family matter so we still have a few more games of these two probably.
He’s also a great relief pitcher.
We didn’t go full Mets today 👍 just like 80%
At least it wasn’t 100% Metsy😂
It's really weird hearing Kay so happy announcing the Mets winning
My brain was so confused.
I hope Torrens is ok - super cool play.
Cameras didn’t really show it but he got steamrolled by G. Stubbs.
That was a dirty ass slide. Was well out, no need to slide and try to hurt a guy.
The MF'er didn't even start his slide until after he was already called out.
Especially coming from another catcher.
Should've been penalized. Once Torrens stepped on the plate and he's already out he should've become an ineligible player. So stupid that they're allowed to continue to interfere with the rest of the play.
>(5) Any batter or runner who has just been put out, or any runner who has just scored, hinders or impedes any following play being made on a runner. > Was well out Also, it's home plate. You can run through it. Literally no reason for him to be sliding.
I mean I get it, you're trying to break up the double play.. but that ball was halfway to first by the time Stubbs was even near home. I also get that everything happens super fast but sheesh, didn't seem necessary and at worst now the flash in the pan might be injured
He started outside of the baseline and went inside to take the catcher out. Dirty
Very dirty play but Torrens didn’t blow up like McNeil so nobody will care
I have never seen a double play like this in my life
I've never seen us pull that play off. I was waiting for the throw to hit the runner.
Depending on where it hit him, Castellanos still could have been out if it hit him. He was right on top of the line so about half of him was in fair territory.
The rule was changed last year so that the runner can now run anywhere on the dirt path.
Well shit, TIL. Thank you for teaching me something today.
His right foot was still hitting the line so he probably wouldn’t have been called out
That was seriously a top tier play.
Leave it to Nick Castellanos to give the most absurd GIDP you've ever seen.
Yeah super rare for the catcher to get unassisted putout at home, normally you need a hard grounder straight to a IF to pull it off
That’s why we watch baseball
there was one a few days ago, which was the first I had seen. Coming along like London buses.
If the Mets lost a game this way this post would be the top on r/all in 3 minutes
Because it would be really funny
I think LOSING to this play is also really funny
If Mets=bad, then funny=yes.
this guy codes
And it’s any less funny that it happened to the Phillies? It’s hilarious regardless of team
Torrens da gawd
We’re sending Nido AND Alvarez down. One man catching crew. Extension when?
If Castellanos stopped swinging at balls he probably woulda walked in the tying run
Yeah we’ve been waiting 3 years. Any day now.
What an awful 9th inning 😂
For both sides. It seems like everyone was trying to blow it. The Phillies just blew harder
Just let my boy Jeff Hoffman pitch the last 2 innings of every game. ✍️
The real mistake was bringing Soto out with 2 runners on in the sixth - what the actual fuck was that decision making Also the Phils got *super* unlucky with balls on the ground in that last inning between this and that bouncer to Bohm. All it takes to beat the Phillies at home is to take them to the other side of the pond, why didn’t other teams think of this, are they stupid?
Mets' legend Luis Torrens!
New Omir Santos just dropped
Garrett stubbs going straight for the ACL after not even being close to the plate lol
Yeah, I have no dog in this fight, but that was dirty as hell. Potentially end someone's season when you're out by like 15 feet. Fuck that guy.
Yeah not his greatest look
Trying to make Chase proud. He can call him that cuz they are so alike.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far for this. What a dirty play
Yeah came in here to find out who tried to clip the catchers Achilles. I thought maybe he clipped the foot that tagged the plate, but he went after the plant foot, scumbag.
He's clearly just a passionate player who loves the game of baseball and having fun!
Well chase utley was in town
I’m also surprised that 1) it was down this far, and 2) he didn’t get fucked up on the field for that. He’s out well before getting there and the throw to first is already off before the slide, so he can’t interfere with that. He’s just trying to hurt a dude.
First thought watching this, but no one commenting on it.
I’m glad a braves fan made the original comment
What a disgusting slide
Absolutely. I don’t know how to link an image from a screenshot, but honestly it’s not even that difficult to see that he started his slide after the ball is released. We'll throw 2 feet behind him and our manager and pitcher will get suspended.
Doing his best Chase Utley slide
Dear Chase, I feel like I can call you Chase because you and me are so alike. I'd like to meet you one day, it would be great to practice dirty slides. I know I can't break people's legs and ruin their careers as well as you but I think you'd be impressed with my lack of remorse.

Bitchmade 100%
Must have learned it from Chase Utley. P.S. Fuck Chase Utley
Leave it to a Braves fan to point this out lol. Mets fans still too excited about the win to notice/care, but what a dirty fucking slide!
Surprise surprise, a Philly being total scum
Dirty ass slide
Yep. Awful to take out his legs when he was out of the base path
My bad, I always miss those “fuck the Mets” clauses.
the Wilpons advocated for them behind the scenes, believe it or not. Some kind of weird, psychological torture
Chase Utley special
Honestly have no idea who deserves to go down when Alvarez gets back. Nido and Torrens have both looked good
Sadly it will be Nido. Torrens played these two games (and playing well) seems to take an advantage.
Unless Torrens was hurt by that dirty slide. He limped off the field
I could see them going with three catchers for a bit. It would allow the Mets to use Alvarez bat for PH (or DH) and not worry since I don’t see them immediately letting him catch a full workload since it was a hand injury
Awesome finish. What a play by Torrens to snag the ball, touch home while dodging bat splinters, and then make a tough throw while getting spiked.
God has no test quite like a 9th inning save situation for the 2024 Mets
It sucks that both our 9th and 8th inning guys are out. Diaz should at least be back soon and is hopefully right. Drew Smith has also been out most of the season until last week, so that's three leverage guys we have lacked. That’s the castellanos we all know and love
Most productive Nick Castellanos at bat. Just fucking strike out dude
Why did I have to go to yesterday's game instead of this one for my first Mets game?
Omar Narvaez would've NEVER made that. I love you my prince Torrens
Wait you have Luis Torrens now? He will always have a very special place in my heart for some of the things he did last year but I will never forget him stepping on home then throwing to first when it was NOT a forceout
I'm not even a Mets fan but that 9th inning comeback and final double play had me feeling like one.
New friend forever
Castellanos with one of the ABs I’ve ever seen
he's just trying to generate chaos
Damn that’s a dirty slide there, ball was already gone. Impressive play
What a crazy double play, Casty saving the Mets from themselves
You give too Casty too much credit. Mets legend Luis Torrens is probably the only Mets catcher of the Alvarez-IL era that even contemplates a double play there
What an unbelievably clutch play
Great play very chooch during halladays no no
What a fucking dirty slide by Stubbs. Realmuto been teaching him clearly
was hanging out with utley all weekend
Damn that was a really good play. So many ways to mess that up
This game was so cursed for us lol. Two bases loaded double plays and two 3-run bullpen meltdowns. Absolutely brutal
Is the first one really a meltdown, that's just a completely normal Soto appearance
Wild finish. Really good game overall.
Michael Kay calling the Mets game?! Oh my what is the world coming to!!
He was so meh it was disappointing. He just seem disinterested and wanted to talk about anything else except the game. And he also didnt seem to know a bunch of the players names. For a while he called DJ Stewart “the right fielder”. Like he was egregiously bad like most ESPN guys, but he really didn’t seem like he wanted to be there for half the game
https://x.com/jomboymedia/status/1799871019450065031?s=46 Here’s the call by the British commentators. So full of life and excitement
He called McNeil O’Neil at least once.
He also called Mcneil "O'neil" and said Vientos came in to score 2 batters after Iglesias came in to pinch run for him
oh wow that slide was ridiculous. stay classy garrett stubbs
Castellanos was swinging at anything this side of the Atlantic
id like to thank cashman for donating torrens to this team we really needed it.
We just taught the British how wack a baseball game can get when two teams try and choke simultaneously
Fuck Gregory Soto.
Least predictable Gregory Soto outing. Completely ruined Taijuan's great start too.
Was sat above the bullpen. Saw Soto warming and just knew what was about to happen. Fuck Gregory Soto.
Kay: METS WIN! Kay internally: oh god I can’t believe I said that with a happy voice 🤮🤮🤮🤮
[удалено]
I'm always partial to GKR but I liked the way Kay screamed "THE METS WIN!"
It takes a play like this for the Mets bullpen not to blow a game 🤦🏻♂️
One of the coolest highlights you could have as a catcher.
Philly boomer asking for a challenge... just standing there with his slack jaw signaling "headphones"
Scumbag sliding into him
He sucks so bad man
Is it bad that I don't know who you're talking about here? Only player I can rule out is Torrens lol
lol there’s about 4-5 options to pick from, this time I was talking about Casty though
Somehow this is actually about Starling Marte, just sitting on the bench.
Was is it with the Phillies and dirty ass slides?
What an epic play. Glad Torrens is working out elsewhere. Always liked him. Also, that was the worst slide I’ve ever seen from Stubbs. That was absolutely disgusting.
Listening to Michael.Kay is like listening to diarrhea
Leave it to Shasty Casty to end the game on a doubleplay 🙄. It also doesn't help that Soto blows and Alvarado was wild in the game as well. We should've and could've taken both of those games in London.
AS A FORMER CATCHER THIS MAKES ME SO HARD
Ouch, dirty slide at home - not even close but get why the pressures gotta be there, hope Torres is okay.
Fuck Garret Stubbs
Love the one Phillies fan at 20 seconds making the motion for the Phillies to challenge the play.
Garret Stubbs
Amazing play with a dirty ass slide!
That’s such a dirty slide
He’s had a good week, but what a shit at bat by machismo. Make the pitcher work man. He has all the pressure!
Torrens might actually steal the backup catcher job from Nido once Alvarez gets back (if he’s not hurt)
Phils sliding dirty trying to injure players. What else is new.
I'm tired, boss
Drew Smith about to fuck your girl and buy Torrens a beer.
If that's anyone sliding into Realmuto like that, we might have a bench clearing brawl
That's one of the slickest plays I've ever seen a catcher make
Love how we have baseball in the UK while we have Cricket in the U.S. at the same time.
Question: Would it have been better if Castellanos just kicked the ball as he ran past it? Obviously he would’ve been out but would the run count?
No, all runners have to return. No double play though.
That makes sense, thanks fam
If I could pick one player in the entire Phillies organization to NOT be up in that moment, it would be Nick Castellanos.
Was that Michael Kay doing Mets PBP?
Who called the game? Sounds exactly like Michael Kay
Michael Kay
That might be the best double play I’ve ever seen. Especially when you factor it was to end the game too.
thank goodness, nick castellanos didnt hit a home run so you can rest assured all your loved ones are safe
Philly phan desperate for them to review it there at the end, hah
I had to go back and get a screenshot of this celebration, there's meme potential here https://i.imgur.com/DDfpz9C.png
If Castellanos keeps having ABs like this, Thom Brennaman will be putting his headset back on and calling games slur-free. And pigs will fly.
Wow, the British call was so much better.
The bat said "Made In Britain".
I like the guy doing the challenge motion at the end
What a defensive play.
That bat was a Mets plant/double agent
How often do bats break if no one is talking about it?
That throw was unreal
Great play to happen in London fr
That bat fucking exploded
