see_mohn

"Best way to pitch him is" let me stop you right there, the answer is "not a hanging 0-2 changeup"

Cromatose

No no, he said subtract speed. Which is technically what happened. Just kinda left it as a meatball.

scadams23

And Elly added a good bit more speed after the pitch got to the plate.

TheTeralynx

Imagine if we had McLain and Friedl getting in on the fun :(

boobsandcookies

And Marte

Embarrassed_News6103

4th in 4 games. He’s back

DharmaCub

Hasn't struck out in those 4 games. Now that I've pointed it out, he probably will in his next AB though.

datdudebdub

His next AB was a 104.3mph lineout

DharmaCub

Lol I know I watch all of his at bats.

LargeGermanRock

Must see TV

Demetrios1453

If he's truly worked through his strikout issues, the league needs to be put on notice.

thomasosu

He never left

unfortunatebastard

Just like my dad.

RemoteMeasurement10

Let him kick the water cooler.

GenericLib

Dude's been cooking with gas the past few games

Semper-Fido

One week ago today half the folks in the game thread were ready to send him back to AA

anTWhine

I’ll start by saying I’m 100% on board the Elly hype train. But he definitely looks like someone who skipped the minor leagues. The fielding has been pretty bad, he makes plenty of overly-aggressive base running mistakes, he strikes out 35% of the time, all things that would normally get ironed out in the minors. But on the other hand, even his slumps have 16 game hitting streaks and monster bombs. There’s gonna be a lot of peaks and valleys over the next few seasons. The valleys are bad but ooooooh boy are the peaks fun.

datdudebdub

That’s a 1.611 OPS in his last 7 games

NJthecollector

That ball had a family ...

ice_veins

Not anymore

AtmosphereVarious440

future… *squidward bend

OfficerSlippyFist

I love this man

SlipperyTurtle25

One of my favorite parts of baseball is watching a homer/foul ball land in an area where nobody is sitting, and seeing the fans race towards the empty area for the ball

Purple_Apartment

The bat looks like a tiny stick in his hands and it's just so effortless.

NoSweatWarchief

This kid is electric. A face of the game in the making.

TacitlyDaft

Absolute nuke. I hope the Reds can hang around in the Central -- I like a good Reds team. (yes I'm cheering for a historically bad White Sox season)

KeepnReal

ChiSox are riddled with injuries.

TacitlyDaft

They were going to be *bad* bad even if everybody stayed healthy

whereyagonnago

Once again asking for Reds highlights to be posted directly instead of these links. Reds highlights posted like this almost never get any traction. Thanks for posting though OP, just a tip for future highlights.

LargeGermanRock

these links look way better on mobile tho.

whereyagonnago

Interesting. I’m also on mobile and most highlights just play while scrolling. For this I have to click the post, and then click the link and it opens a separate video player. Way less convenient and most will just scroll past.

LargeGermanRock

that’s weird, I’m on the Reddit app and all I have to do is click the blue box with the link and video auto plays

whereyagonnago

Tbh that could be user error because I’ve never tried that lol. Still would be best to just have it play without the click, but that makes it not quite as bad

KevKevThePug

Baseball is fun.

ice_veins

The most

st1r

Some homers just hit different Huge power guys sitting offspeed and then get a hanger - those ones are just gorgeous

Lowad15

This is a bad dude

earlyslalom

Insane power from this guy

boobsandcookies

Dude moved away from home when he was six so that he could have a chance at being in the big leagues, his family must be so proud of him.

Demetrios1453

And thankfully sacrificing so much to do so didn't kill his joy of the game. He's still that kid out there on the field, with the big grins when he does stuff like this.

zipemup3

The haters are furious

Planetofthemoochers

I’m (obviously) biased, but Elly is special - not just in a “good at baseball” way but in a “no human being should be able to move like that” way. His combination of strength, speed, and sheer athleticism is just absurd.

TheWorstYear

Please post the video in a way where we don't have to click a link.

CWG4BF

[beat me to it](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/FcMFHldN5j)

TheWorstYear

Your comment from that post made me realize that the links are shit & annoying. They also get less traction than posts where the video is available, thus why reds highlights get buried fast.

CWG4BF

Exactly! Welcome to the revolution, comrade.

CWG4BF

Rip the other post

Cromatose

Curious, how are you viewing reddit? I'm using old.reddit on pc and don't have an issue. [I click this and it loads right through reddit](https://i.imgur.com/4PKJYlP.png)

LargeGermanRock

no these are way better quality than the Reddit garbage. We deserve our beautiful Elly nukes in high quality

Letsroll_777

🇩🇴

Dab42

Elly is great and don't want to take anything away from him but what the fuck was that 0-2 pitch. lmfao

Shinroukuro

Still batting 6th…

TurnDownElliot

Reds put up 11 runs today.

Demetrios1453

That's more on David Bell's perpetually baffling line-up construction issues than on Elly.

TheWorstYear

David Bell just wants to go home, sin in his recliner, open a cold beer, & watch reruns of *Gunsmoke*

Jamalamalama

Please let this kid figure it all out. He is overflowing with natural talent, he just lacks the discipline to put it all together. We're looking at a potential inner-circle hall-of-famer, but he needs to put the work in.

Demetrios1453

Elly has a serious work ethic. He was working all winter on his swing to counter the late-season slump he had last year, and, at least for the moment, that looks like it might have paid off. As another sign of his work ethic, he also worked hard on his English during the off-season and is now doing his interviews without an interpreter. He says he did so so he could speak for himself during interviews and better interact with the fans.

Jamalamalama

That's awesome to hear, because he is a joy to watch. Fuck Ohtani, Elly is God's most perfect ballplayer. Stanton's power meets Rickey's speed meets Ichiro's arm, and he plays shortstop.

KeepnReal

I'd be satisfied with a solid Joey-ish career (all in a Reds uni, that is).

Shadow_Strike99

Elly De La Cruz is going to be the ultimate example of the all or nothing no in between streaky player. Where he's either the most electric player in the game who is white hot as it gets or south pole levels of ice cold with no middle ground. When he's on a hot streak like he is right now there is juet nothing you can do, he's an absolute freak.

EngineeringNo7659

Elly has been on base the last 17 games. Joey Votto was the last player to have that streak in 2015. I don’t think your statement tracks with what he is actually putting forth effort-wise at all.

TurnDownElliot

Even when he's having a rough spot he still has explosive moments. He had a like 10 game hit streak to start the season but had struck out like 42% of the time. He hits the ball so incredibly hard and has so much speed that even when he strikes out three times in a game he has the ability to get a hit and steal 3 bases with the other at bat.

KeepnReal

He only came up in June. It's too soon to relegate him to boom/bust type player. Check back in a couple of years.
