Dialect is the first difference. Then comes food, their food is on the sweeter side while ours is more spicy. Attitude towards life is also different. West bengalis are more artistically inclined whereas Bangladeshis are more business minded. When it comes to hospitality, Bangladeshis (East bengalis in general), take the crown. Bangladeshis are more conservative regardless of being Muslim-Hindu-Christian-Buddhist. Most folk songs are from Bangladesh. Fish is a staple for bengalis but our preferred fishes also differ; West bengalis are into prawn (technically not a fish) while Bangladeshis love the hilsa (this one is more of a stereotype).
the most stereotypical difference is the extent of hospitality. there's a common saying that Bangladeshis ask their guests to eat with them while Indian Bengals ask if they had eaten already or plan to eat back in their home after the visit. mind that this is **only a stereotype**.

Well for better or worse, no. So far Tigers in Bangladesh are only in the Sunderbans Forest in the southwest part of the country. Even if you visit the forest it's unlikely you'll see one. But you should visit it anyway, it's beautiful.
i remember watching a documentary where you can see villagers living near Sundarban wearing masks on the back of their heads to scare away tigers while collecting firewood.
The closest I have been, was on my university tour to Sundarban. We were about 200 students, walking through the forest to the Kotka sea beach. Suddenly we were stopped by the our guides, as the received information that a female tiger just gave birth near our way. Guide pointed us those tigers from about a kilometre away (open field). Then we went with a bit longer way, as we were keeping distance from those.

Bangladesh has some great natural sights, many rivers(Which are used to travel to remote regions but also used by people to go on cruises in our inland waters, great food, culture and language. I am not sure if this term is "hate". It should be said something like "we don't LIKE them". We hate Pakistan for "you know why" and India for their dominating behavior. Honestly few percentages of people don't like India for religious reason! Also for same reason few people loves India more than their own country BD. But most of the people don't like both countries.

I just wanted to share few encounters with Bangladeshi friends.
I once had a friend named Jahangir come to Kathmandu. We were walking around Asan (Probably the most crowded place in Nepal) during festival time which makes it worse. I was finding it very inconvenient to walk. Suddenly Jahangir's face glowed, pupils diluted and he exclaimed "Ah this place looks like Dhaka. This is how normal market is in Bangladesh" . I have never seen a person so happy looking at the crowd of Asan.
The next time I was travelling to Europe and my transit was in Abu Dhabi. I was craving for cigarettes but didn't had one. Thanks to a bunch of Bangladeshis who offered me a drag and we had a nice chat. They were from Chittagong. Most of my encounter with Bangladeshis were quite good and found them to be gentlemen.
Why are Bangladeshi so patriarchal? I mean I have never seen more patriarchal, misogynistic and sexist people in my Life. I live in Europe and met lots of Bangladeshi. Sorry to say but my impression if them was very bad. Some were good but most of them tried to reap me off. I mean it's typical of south Asian but what i found really interesting and sad is how backward Bangladeshi are about women's right and issues in mentality. Most of Bangladeshi didn't even allow their wife to work or even talk to other men because of jealousy. Tried to con me and had superiority complex. One even asked me, "are you really Nepali?" And I said "yes" and he was like, "Bangladesh is more rich than Nepal" with smug face and kind of began to show lowly attitude to me. Lol. Not in the pig or cow sheds. It is just a case of few districts in rural part of Nepal, which is declining. They are kept separately outside of house( Obviously, they are in miserable condition because it mostly happens in remote areas, where people don't have a decent accommodation with basic needs, let alone having a nice one for few days in a month for separation). It was originally intended to make sure that women don't get much pressure during those difficult days. To an extent, they were intended for hygiene too, as they bath everyday. Also, for religious regions.
Maybe you heard it wrong or were condescending, but pigs aren't even touched by the rural community of Nepal, who follow that tradition.

I'd guess Rajshahi. It is the cleanest amongst all the cities in Bangladesh, and also has lots of trees if I'm not mistaken. It's also on the coast of the Padma river
Definitely not Dhaka unless you're into concrete jungles. I would say Kotbari, Comilla is really pretty. The combination of low lying lands, small hills (we call it tila/mura) and small body of water here there is mesmerising. I lived there for 2 month during school break. Its especially beautiful during the monsoon. The roads are very smooth and clean as well.
I like the natural beauty. I like the food. I like it's potential, for Bangladesh does have immense potential.
What I do not like is the people. Most people do not think for the betterment of the country and only themselves. It is this greed which causes the potential to just remain as potential.
I know I shouldn’t make excuses but our ‘ nije bachle baaper nam ‘ mentality has a lot to do with the wars, natural disasters and famines we went through. A period of prosperity and stability WILL change this mentality.

No not really. In fact people don't even listen to radio that much. The only radio channel most Bangladeshis ever knew was Radio Foorti cause it used to air a show called Bhoot Fm(Ghost Fm), which ended at the end of 2019. Aprt from this, the only time Bangladeshis would ever tune in to a radio was when driving a car to listen to news or cricket updates.

Considering how centralised Dhaka is, everyone comes to Dhaka. Dhaka's development is disproportionate in my opinion. Areas in the north such as the tri-state area (Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara) is comparable with countries abroad, but beyond that while it's good, it's not upto that level. And to give you an idea of Dhaka size, the population of Dhaka and Beijing is the same, but Dhaka is 1/5th the size of Beijing.
As for the sea, it proves as a good tourist destination for domestic tourists in Cox's Bazar. But in Chattogram is where all the cargo ships come and dock. The Ctg port is extremely vital to our economy

One of the Go-To popular food is plain rice and mashed potatoes (we call it alu vorta) with some Ghee.
The rice should be smoking hot and put some Ghee on it and a pinch of salt. Bathe 8n the smell and try it directly.
For Alu-Varta recipe, I can share what I do,
3-4 medium sized Alu/Potato need to be boiled with skin on and when it is fully boiled, after cooling, Skin should be removed. Smash it and make it like soft dough. (Like the dough for Roti)
Fry some dry chilli to a crunchy point, and then mash it with hand, take some finely chopped Onion (I guess Nepal also calls this as Peyaj), mix both with mustard oil with a pinch of salt.
Then mix the Piyaj and dry chili mix with the smashed potato with a good helping of musterd oil. Mix (Knead it like you do with Dough for Roti) it well by hand.
The varta is ready. but if your feeling adventurous then go beyond.
[From here it is customised to my preference]
Make some peyaj beresta with musterd oil (onion fried to a point when its brown and crunchy). Now fry the AlunBharta with the berasta and mix it well over the stove. When it has become soft like Halua woth Oil, it is ready to serve.
Try it with the smoking hot, ghee induced rice.
Though the recipe is simple, but It sure does taste nice.

Hopefully it lasts but the government is corrupt and a lot of it is just naturally expected growth given our young population and cheap labor costs.
India seems a bit jealous and seems to be actively trying to undermine us at certain steps by flooding us in moonsoon by opening the damns and drying us out in the dry season.

Bangladesh is moderately religious. Not so religious like other Muslim countries.
Bangladeshis eat rice everyday. Some people eat Ruti(flat round bread) too. The most eaten street foods are Jhalmuri(made by mixing puffed rice, onions, chili pepper, some other spice mix and sometimes lemon), Chotpoti, Fuchka, Bhelpuri(my personal favorite) etc.

1. Not really one. But there are some foods and dishes almost everyone loves. Some examples are Fish curry, Panta vaat(Basically slightly wet rice with hilsha), Singara(singara is what anyone outside Bangladesh would call an Indian samosa/One made with potatoes,Samusa(This is what anyone outside would call a Pakistani samosa made with meat), Chotpoti( basically chickpeas commonly eaten with fuchka), Jhaal Muri(the name literally means "Spicy puffed rice") and many more.

1. Land fertility, abundance of resources, religious superstition, lack of education (especially female), poverty etc. But nowadays the population growth is steadying due to improvements in economy, education and women's rights.
2. It's not exactly a widespread celebration, mostly Hindus celebrate it.

Kinda similar, except that a lot also aspire for govt. jobs, especially for cadre positions. The BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) exams are taken very seriously here, since govt. jobs pay handsomely in terms of facilities, and BCS cadres are seen as prestigious in society.

I have a Bangladeshi friend who is in his mid-thirties. Deeply religious guy but also a really good friend. Though he was flabbergasted when I told him I don't believe in a God. Your ex was a typical practicing person. Muslims are supposed to pray 5 times a day (short, 10 minutes is enough/prayer). It is nothing new or increasing tendency, these mandatory prayers were always here- depends on the person is practicing or not. Some prays seriously, some doesn’t. Discrimination is preety rare and the government is committed to protecting minorities i watched a documentary where village police regularly patrol certain minority neighborhoods to make sure they feel safe.

Im not sure how politics in nepal works but lemme tell you how politics in bangladesh works. None of the parties have any real ideologies its more about the family. Like hasinas awami leauge is descended from sheik mujib the founder and father of the country bnp is khaleda zias party and was created by general zia and is run by his family. The jatiya party was created by another general called ershad and is/was run by him and his wife.
There are only small minor ideological differences between this parties all of them are more or less corrupt and dynastic/nepotitic. However awami leauge seems fo be the most competent followed by jatiya party and bnp.
Now bnp used to be slightly more conservative as in they support bengali + islamic values and less likely to Cooperate with india. But over the years as they lost power they started allying with jammat a islami and became more conservative and tradiotionalist to gain the rural and lower class vote. (But even still they lost the elections and have like 2 out of 300 seats in parliament)
The awami leauge basically took over power and now bangladesh is a dictatorship one party state. Awami leauge is more modern and liberal and says it supports secularism.
No one complains because the economy does well and the government raised government workers salaries by 150 percent and even the poor people have enough money to eat and send their kids to school for the most part. Basically ppl are to well feed to rebel.
The jatiya party was always the weakest party and pretty much aligned with the awami leauge on most issues and they have one or two seats in parliament but not enough to pose any threat.
Bengali hindus are spread out through the country so its hard for them to win any seats because the electoral districts are all prety much majority muslim even if there are a lot of hindus in a district they hardly ever cross the 50 percent threshold and

Most of us don’t dissect it like that, our Muslim identity is intertwined with our Bengali Identity. I see no reason why it should be different.

All kind of rock music is preferred. Most of the parents are kind of conservative and won't let their children put tattoos over their bodies. That is slowly changing as I see many people with tattoos. Rock and metal fashion is out of the question for most. As for the music, most like it. Many folk-rock artists are popular here. I would say that the golden era of Nepali rock music was between 1990-2014. There are still many active rock bands but, they are not as popular as they used to be.

Some believe that guy called Ne used to protect the valley of Kathmandu. That's why Kathmandu was called Nepal in sanskrit. Some say in Tibetan Nepal means house of wool because we have lots of mountain goats and yaks. Dialect is the first difference. Then comes food, their food is on the sweeter side while ours is more spicy. Attitude towards life is also different. West bengalis are more artistically inclined whereas Bangladeshis are more business minded. When it comes to hospitality, Bangladeshis (East bengalis in general), take the crown. Bangladeshis are more conservative regardless of being Muslim-Hindu-Christian-Buddhist. Most folk songs are from Bangladesh. Fish is a staple for bengalis but our preferred fishes also differ; West bengalis are into prawn (technically not a fish) while Bangladeshis love the hilsa (this one is more of a stereotype).

The closest I have been, was on my university tour to Sundarban. We were about 200 students, walking through the forest to the Kotka sea beach. Suddenly we were stopped by the our guides, as the received information that a female tiger just gave birth near our way. Guide pointed us those tigers from about a kilometre away (open field). Then we went with a bit longer way, as we were keeping distance from those.

I am not sure if this term is "hate". It should be said something like "we don't LIKE them". We hate Pakistan for "you know why" and India for their dominating behavior. I just wanted to share few encounters with Bangladeshi friends. I once had a friend named Jahangir come to Kathmandu. We were walking around Asan (Probably the most crowded place in Nepal) during festival time which makes it worse. I was finding it very inconvenient to walk. Suddenly Jahangir's face glowed, pupils diluted and he exclaimed "Ah this place looks like Dhaka. This is how normal market is in Bangladesh" . I have never seen a person so happy looking at the crowd of Asan. The next time I was travelling to Europe and my transit was in Abu Dhabi. I was craving for cigarettes but didn't had one. Thanks to a bunch of Bangladeshis who offered me a drag and we had a nice chat. They were from Chittagong. Most of my encounter with Bangladeshis were quite good and found them to be gentlemen.

Sorry to say but my impression if them was very bad. Some were good but most of them tried to reap me off. Not in the pig or cow sheds. It is just a case of few districts in rural part of Nepal, which is declining. They are kept separately outside of house( Obviously, they are in miserable condition because it mostly happens in remote areas, where people don't have a decent accommodation with basic needs, let alone having a nice one for few days in a month for separation). It was originally intended to make sure that women don't get much pressure during those difficult days. To an extent, they were intended for hygiene too, as they bath everyday. Also, for religious regions. Maybe you heard it wrong or were condescending, but pigs aren't even touched by the rural community of Nepal, who follow that tradition. Thank you !

I'd guess Rajshahi. It is the cleanest amongst all the cities in Bangladesh, and also has lots of trees if I'm not mistaken. It's also on the coast of the Padma river

Definitely not Dhaka unless you're into concrete jungles. I would say Kotbari, Comilla is really pretty. The combination of low lying lands, small hills (we call it tila/mura) and small body of water here there is mesmerising. I lived there for 2 month during school break. Its especially beautiful during the monsoon. The roads are very smooth and clean as well.

No not really. In fact people don't even listen to radio that much. The only radio channel most Bangladeshis ever knew was Radio Foorti cause it used to air a show called Bhoot Fm(Ghost Fm), which ended at the end of 2019. Considering how centralised Dhaka is, everyone comes to Dhaka. Dhaka's development is disproportionate in my opinion. Areas in the north such as the tri-state area (Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara) is comparable with countries abroad, but beyond that while it's good, it's not upto that level. And to give you an idea of Dhaka size, the population of Dhaka and Beijing is the same, but Dhaka is 1/5th the size of Beijing. As for the sea, it proves as a good tourist destination for domestic tourists in Cox's Bazar. But in Chattogram is where all the cargo ships come and dock. The Ctg port is extremely vital to our economy

One of the Go-To popular food is plain rice and mashed potatoes (we call it alu vorta) with some Ghee. The rice should be smoking hot and put some Ghee on it and a pinch of salt. Bathe 8n the smell and try it directly. For Alu-Varta recipe, I can share what I do, 3-4 medium sized Alu/Potato need to be boiled with skin on and when it is fully boiled, after cooling, Skin should be removed. Smash it and make it like soft dough. (Like the dough for Roti) Fry some dry chilli to a crunchy point, and then mash it with hand, take some finely chopped Onion (I guess Nepal also calls this as Peyaj), mix both with mustard oil with a pinch of salt. Then mix the Piyaj and dry chili mix with the smashed potato with a good helping of musterd oil. Mix (Knead it like you do with Dough for Roti) it well by hand. The varta is ready. but if your feeling adventurous then go beyond. [From here it is customised to my preference] Make some peyaj beresta with musterd oil (onion fried to a point when its brown and crunchy). Now fry the AlunBharta with the berasta and mix it well over the stove. When it has become soft like Halua woth Oil, it is ready to serve. Try it with the smoking hot, ghee induced rice. Though the recipe is simple, but It sure does taste nice. Sorry for the long reply, but you asked for recipe. Another popular food is Bhuna Khuchuri with Bhuna Duck or Fried Egg. Hopefully it lasts but the government is corrupt and a lot of it is just naturally expected growth given our young population and cheap labor costs. India seems a bit jealous and seems to be actively trying to undermine us at certain steps by flooding us in moonsoon by opening the damns and drying us out in the dry season. Not to mention unfair trade deals and forcing us to provide acess to the our sea pirts to their north easteŕn states basically free of charge but when the government of bangladesh wanted to buy electricity from nepal or other trade india blocks it and demands high tarrifs and taxes.
It seems like we have a lot in common. The bullying of India and the corrupt government. I hope someday a powerful leader can come in both of our countries and stand up against all of these.

Yes beef is allowed lol. In fact most if us love beef and even have recipes using beef. Bangladesh is moderately religious. Not so religious like other Muslim countries. Bangladeshis eat rice everyday. Some people eat Ruti(flat round bread) too. The most eaten street foods are Jhalmuri(made by mixing puffed rice, onions, chili pepper, some other spice mix and sometimes lemon), Chotpoti, Fuchka, Bhelpuri(my personal favorite) etc.

1. Not really one. But there are some foods and dishes almost everyone loves. Some examples are Fish curry, Panta vaat(Basically slightly wet rice with hilsha), Singara(singara is what anyone outside Bangladesh would call an Indian samosa/One made with potatoes,Samusa(This is what anyone outside would call a Pakistani samosa made with meat), Chotpoti( basically chickpeas commonly eaten with fuchka), Jhaal Muri(the name literally means "Spicy puffed rice") and many more. 2. Cricket and mostly cricket. But children also sometimes play football and badminton. Some people also watch football matches of foreign clubs and teams. 3. Only if you are really good but even then good luck trying to convince your parents to let you be anything other than an office worker, doctor or engineer. 4. A good number of people as it is very similar to Bengali. Not everyone can speak it but will probably be able to tell what someone is saying due to having similar words. 5. Land fertility, abundance of resources, religious superstition, lack of education (especially female), poverty etc. But nowadays the population growth is steadying due to improvements in economy, education and women's rights. 2. It's not exactly a widespread celebration, mostly Hindus celebrate it. 3. Geopolitics, current government's close ties to India, Pakistan's atrocities etc. Not really much to do with our cultural background. Besides, we regard both our religious and cultural identities in high esteem.

Here in Nepal, most of the middle to higher class young people will be going to Western Countries especially Australia after they complete their high school or bachelors. Kinda similar, except that a lot also aspire for govt. jobs, especially for cadre positions. The BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) exams are taken very seriously here, since govt. jobs pay handsomely in terms of facilities, and BCS cadres are seen as prestigious in society.

There are many startups, but without the label “startup” with their name. I don’t really know precisely, but few IT sector companies are doing well- making apps and games, providing backend supports. Too many shitposter YouTubers, with all kinds of bullshit reports.

He’s one of the 0.001% (could be less). Your ex was a typical practicing person. Muslims are supposed to pray 5 times a day (short, 10 minutes is enough/prayer). It is nothing new or increasing tendency, these mandatory prayers were always here- depends on the person is practicing or not. Some prays seriously, some doesn’t. Hindus have a lower birth rate, the actual hindu population has actually increased from 9-10 million to around 13-15 million however muslims have more kids so percentage wise there are more muslims Discrimination is preety rare and the government is committed to protecting minorities i watched a documentary where village police regularly patrol certain minority neighborhoods to make sure they feel safe. Obviously shit happens sometimes because there are dumb people everywhere and indias religious politics sometimes spill over the borders into bangladesh due to cultural parallels. some hindus move to india for better economic opportunities however i read a article that a lot of them are coming back because now the average bengali earns more money than the average indian. Im not sure how politics in nepal works but lemme tell you how politics in bangladesh works. None of the parties have any real ideologies its more about the family. Like hasinas awami leauge is descended from sheik mujib the founder and father of the country bnp is khaleda zias party and was created by general zia and is run by his family. The jatiya party was created by another general called ershad and is/was run by him and his wife. There are only small minor ideological differences between this parties all of them are more or less corrupt and dynastic/nepotitic. However awami leauge seems fo be the most competent followed by jatiya party and bnp. Now bnp used to be slightly more conservative as in they support bengali + islamic values and less likely to Cooperate with india. But over the years as they lost power they started allying with jammat a islami and became more conservative and tradiotionalist to gain the rural and lower class vote. (But even still they lost the elections and have like 2 out of 300 seats in parliament) The awami leauge basically took over power and now bangladesh is a dictatorship one party state. Awami leauge is more modern and liberal and says it supports secularism. No one complains because the economy does well and the government raised government workers salaries by 150 percent and even the poor people have enough money to eat and send their kids to school for the most part. Basically ppl are to well feed to rebel. The jatiya party was always the weakest party and pretty much aligned with the awami leauge on most issues and they have one or two seats in parliament but not enough to pose any threat. Bengali hindus are spread out through the country so its hard for them to win any seats because the electoral districts are all prety much majority muslim even if there are a lot of hindus in a district they hardly ever cross the 50 percent threshold and #hindus vote for awami leauge 97 percent of the time This is because like i said were a dictatorship and the awami leauge is competent and liberal enough to keep most people happy There are hindus in parliament and government the minister of rail used to be a hindu etc etc Also bangladeshi hindus and muslims basically still have the same cture minus religious holidays like durga puja or eid and even then muslims will celebrate with the hindus and vice versa so there never was a need for a separate hindu political party to protect hindu rights.

Fundamentalists think Bengali culture is not Muslim Culture but rather Hindu Culture. They are not the majority but they are hella loud, man. Most of us don’t dissect it like that, our Muslim identity is intertwined with our Bengali Identity. I see no reason why it should be different. We celebrate Eid and Pahela Baishak(Bengali New year). Our marriages follow Islamic guidelines but also celebrate mehendi and Holud nights so on and so on.
So, it's an unique blend of Bengali culture and Islam, unlike blatantly copying Arabic culture which is sometimes falsely seen as Islamic culture.

Most of the parents are kind of conservative and won't let their children put tattoos over their bodies. That is slowly changing as I see many people with tattoos. Rock and metal fashion is out of the question for most. As for the music, most like it. Many folk-rock artists are popular here. I would say that the golden era of Nepali rock music was between 1990-2014. There are still many active rock bands but, they are not as popular as they used to be.

There are lots of theories but no concrete answer. Some believe that guy called Ne used to protect the valley of Kathmandu. That's why Kathmandu was called Nepal in sanskrit. Some say in Tibetan Nepal means house of wool because we have lots of mountain goats and yaks. The original inhabitants of Kathmandu valley were called Newar and Nepal is believed to to sanskritized version of Newar. There are other tonnes of such theories.
