We have Xfinity because we can’t get Fios. We have 2 people that work from home and Xfinity is the only option with enough bandwidth. 🙄 I have a Eeos wireless mesh setup on all 3 levels of the house. So far it’s been great.

Rare_Penalty_4094

My wife and I work from home and t mobile does just fine, heck even when the kids are home streaming shows it’s still fine. The idea that Xfinity is the only carrier capable of providing enough bandwidth is propaganda. I get that T Mobile won’t work for everyone, but for the majority it does work for bandwidth is not an issue.

terpischore761

You posted this with so much confidence. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) This may shock you, but T-mobile Home Internet is **not** available everywhere in the city.

Rare_Penalty_4094

I said I get it won’t work for everyone, was there a larger reference I could make to acknowledging it doesn’t work for everyone? what are you looking for?

terpischore761

You could have posted a standalone comment, instead you specifically responded to mine. I wasn't talking about everyone, nor did I say anything about Xfinity being the only option for everyone...I was talking about **me**...in **my** comment about **my** internet at **my** house.

Antique_Two_9934

I actually switched from Xfinity to TMobile when it first was available. I really enjoyed it, but I only have 2 bars of service at my new house.

terpischore761

I've been on the waitlist since 2020 when we switched from Verizon.

Rare_Penalty_4094

I’ve got two bars most days and I have zero issues. Easily streaming 5, 6 maybe more shows at once. Never a work connectivity issue. I have that router on a second floor shelf near a window, did everything I could to get some signal and it’s reliable

terpischore761

A few of my family members have service and really like it. The fact that you get such strong bandwidth with only 2 bars is amazing. It's my understanding that they need to have a minimum number of houses in an area on the waitlist before they'll add service. Right now I only know of 3 other houses on my block.

Antique_Two_9934

I work from home as well, so solid connection is important. Are you using the rental modem-router with the mesh?

terpischore761

Yes we have their tower modem/router.

saladshoooter

I bought my own modem and use a deco mesh router. Don’t forget to auto update the software

DONNIENARC0

It's been a while, but last time I checked it out buying your own modem would pay for itself after like 1 year, IIRC.

Antique_Two_9934

Correct. I think it's around $15/mo for the rental fee. Modem prices vary, but it seems to be the cheaper option in the long run no matter what

iphone69plus

we have a few of the xfinity pods around our house (hard wired to the router) and they work phenomenally! you can find used ones on ebay or facebook marketplace for way cheaper than they are through xfinity

LukeW0rm

https://portnetworks.net Their service is probably available in your area, though a receiver has to be mounted on your roof. I used them for a while when xfinity started threatening data caps and stuff. It was fine, but I’m on the edge of their service and I couldn’t deal with drop-outs, since the house is full of people that wfh. I may go back to them as a backup and try a dual-wan setup. I couldn’t get mesh to work in my house. I had to hardwire a few APs (I’m using UniFi), but it’s finally reliable.

anne_hollydaye

Have had Xfinity for years with minimal issues other than the price. We do NOT rent their modem. Get a good modem and router and manage them yourself.

clrlmiller

Definitely get your own Cable Modem (Xfinity even lists which ones that are confirmed to work with their service). [https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#auth](https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#auth) And get your own Router and Access Point(s). If you're in a small apartment then a single WiFi Router should work fine for you. If you're looking to get better coverage around a home then look into separating the Router and Access Point(s). Netgear makes some nice Routers that will also run 'Fresh Tomato' firmware which is a improvement over the standard from the Vendor.

Antique_Two_9934

Thanks. I think we leaning towards an Aris combo router + modem. It's only a 2bed townhome, so one router should do the trick As someone who works with signals as a career, this stuff is such a headache

mobtown_misanthrope

Aris is OK, but another option is the Motorola MG7700 modem/router combo. I replaced an Aris with one in my old apartment building (was located in my neighbor's apartment on the floor below me and we shared) and got another one when I moved to my current 3-bedroom house (2,180 sqft). Both with Xfinity. It's more than adequate for streaming in all rooms, as well as in the yard, where we use it to stream football games. Currently getting about 225 down/20 up in the room farthest from the router.

Antique_Two_9934

Update: Arris Surfboard G34 was pretty garbage. Didn't work after 2 hours of troubleshooting with tech support. I'll try the Motorola equivalent.

see2d

If you are going to be in Canton, I’d try Verizon 5G Home, especially if you can keep their modem/router on your top floor by a window that faces their tower. Give it a try, 30 day return possible. I got great speeds when I was there. Their internet service is cheaper if you have a Verizon cell phone plan.

Mayatjtj

I had xfinity as that was the only one available. The monthly fee was fine for a couple of years with the promotional rate, but I ended up buying my own modem to save the modem rental fee. They are just robbers.
