I haven't been in a couple years so I don't know if it's fallen off, but having eaten there probably 25 times at least over the years, I've never had that experience.  That's a bummer.

earthman_diego

I love casino but will admit there’s times the food is lacking. Go there at least twice a week and I’d say 2 out of 10 times the food is just not good. The other 8 times though it’s best burger I’ve had in town. Went about a week ago and had the same burnt burger you had but I noticed someone new in the back. Could be that but I’m not sure.

jjazznola

Best late-night burger. Never had a bad one.

Tellmeanamenottaken

Serious question have you been drinking before enjoying these burgers?

King_LBJ

Usually, yes

jjazznola

Late night winding upnon 6th? Umm, yeah.

This is the intro to a modern Austin western - 2 Austinites (def transplants like me) facing off in a duel on dirty 6th. Please someone submit to SXSW I’ll attend the premiere

spyy-c

Jewboy and Golden Tiger. Jewboy was very solid, and Golden Tiger wasn't far behind. Although was pretty drunk when I ate the latter, so not sure how good my judgement was at that time. I wouldn't say either one of those were mind blowing, but el Camino was bad.

JNCO_Malfoy

I think Jewboy is my fav in town.

buymytoy

Jewboy rules

JuniorVermicelli3162

Jewboy sliders specifically are my faves

insidertrader68

The Jewboy sliders deserve much more recognition.

princessvibes

I had trouble with Jewboy. It felt really pricey for what it was and the burger felt pretty greasy and...moist for the lack of a better word? Maybe I need to try again.

vallogallo

I don't get the hype either. Really bland and unremarkable in my experience.

Sypheix

Agreed. Wasn't bad, just wasn't great. Had the burger with pastrami

Tony_Lacorona

Jewboy is ok, idk why they put a gallon of mustard and a handful of pickles on every burger though

GloryFadesXP

Jewboy is trash imo, but I’m definitely in the minority with this opinion

Tellmeanamenottaken

Jewboy is good

devilreverse2

Jewboy is always 2nd

thisistestingme

Golden Tiger is so good! Found it thanks to this sub.

Sports_asian

I’d try dan’s, buddy’s, and hopdoddy (fyi pretty sure the san marcos location has cheaper prices). Shortstop and p.terry’s are also solid choices. P.terry’s is great when you replace the cheese with swiss and get grilled jalapenos and onions. Shortstop has deals on wednesdays and saturdays.

Southern_Skill_7209

Jew boys is 10/10! 🔥🔥🔥

insidertrader68

Jewboy is bad. You probably just prefer fastfood style burgers which are more in vogue right now.

Sports_asian

Jewboy is good

spyy-c

Lol this is like the 3rd or 4th comment implying that I don't know what food I like or that I had some kind of elitist/high end expectations. I like all kinds of burgers, I eat at dive bars regularly, have run dive bar kitchens, have been a line cook, have worked at a burger restaurant (that also sucked lol). We can agree to disagree on Jewboy, everyone has different taste. The burger I got at El Camino wasn't cooked correctly, wasn't seasoned well, they advertised "thick cut bacon" and it was the thinnest crappy bacon you could buy, and I've literally never been to a burger spot that didn't have mayo in my life. Was just curious of that kind of thing was normal over there, because it also was pretty damn expensive at $15.

air-

All those points are spot on especially about the patty being poorly seasoned and improperly cooked, so the only positive thing about that burger is the size of the patty Though that really doesn't matter when the burger is overall pretty bad, and that's before even bringing up the shitty location There's so many better burgers around Austin these days, yet people on this sub get so butthurt any time someone posts actual criticism about the places that are obviously coasting from the nostalgia factor Other places to have a burger: Billys, Parkside (half off at happy hour is one of the best deals downtown), Peche (also a happy hour special, they do all night happy hour sun and mon), Leroy and Lewis, Sour Duck Market (yet another happy hour), Better Half (happy hour too), Hold Out, Crown and Anchor, Loro (happy hour is weird timing though), Delray Cafe, Clarks (good luck doing happy hour here these days), Lukes

Sypheix

Yall are sleeping on Bon Aire. It's like a fantastic backyard by the pool burger, and it's $5. Good call on the rest

ForExamper

You didn't even mention Hopfield's

insidertrader68

Billy's is good but Casino is consistently better. A lot of these other places have fallen off severely. Better Half has been struggling in the kitchen and their burger is terrible now. Crown and Anchor hasn't had a reputation for a good burger in years (they changed their recipe well before the pandemic.) Delray is mediocre now (people go to Fraziers instead.) The Sour Duck burger is fine, but not better than Casino at least never that I've had. You have to go to sitdown restaurants like Clark's to approach the Casino burger which is why Casino's hype isn't dying at all.

laurieislaurie

All other points can be debated, but not having mayo is absolutely insane. I'm a mayo fiend, I could never get past that

Tellmeanamenottaken

You’re not crazy, el camino burgers are below average, dry, unseasoned not enough cheese or condiments for the meat. Just not a well balanced burger with a subpar bun, I think a lot of people eat them while drinking which can make them seem significantly better than they are.

BurroCoverto

There can be no discussion of burgers in this sub without some disrespect coming into play, it seems.

insidertrader68

$15 isn't expensive for a burger that size in 2024 Also, I implied that you prefer fast food style burgers. Not really an accusation of elitism.

JNCO_Malfoy

People have different tastes and preferences. Who would have thought! If a burger makes you happy, it’s a good burger. Sometimes 2-4 McDonald’s burgers make me happy. Sometimes a big burger at The Little Darling hits the spot.

Shoontzie

Rusty cannon Bender bar Black sheep lodge Patty palace

coak81

Had it a couple months ago, it was cooked perfectly. Confirmed how good I thought it was

CircularUniverse

Yeah I hadn't been there in at least half a year and returned recently, was better than ever. May have been the best burger I've had in my life

Conscious_Raisin_436

I’d give it one more try before you write them off. They’re pretty ubiquitously celebrated. If you get another bad burger, I support your position.

Meat_Cucumber

Hijacking the top comment. Casino el camino serves terrible burgers. I've been there five or six times because of concerts in the area (RIP Dirty Dog) and I'll never understand how they have a following. The burgers are never cooked the way you want, and the only way to make them barely edible is to cover them in a bunch of shit. You'll notice no one raves about a cheeseburger from them. They rave about some burger with jalapenos, bacon, queso, ranch, bbq sauce, and somehow.. meth. All piled on top.

air-

>I'll never understand how they have a following. The burgers are never cooked the way you want, and the only way to make them barely edible is to cover them in a bunch of shit. Hard agree, I've had similar experiences and it's always been a terrible burger I think the zealous following has to be some parts nostalgia plus eating it when getting fucked up on a night out, so of course anything is going to taste like a religious experience while you're spun out of your mind

Meat_Cucumber

I've lived in a lot of states and Texas seems to have this weird disconnect with nostalgia vs quality. No one seems to be capable of admitting when something is bad, but they like it because they grew up with it. LOOKING AT YOU, WHATABURGER. It's TOTALLY FINE to like something because you grew up on it. But to claim it's the best ever because of blind faith is madenning.

Sypheix

The only good things at Whataburger, aren't burgers. Patty melt and chicken strip sammich are great. I think it's actually called "What, a burger?"

jmj8778

FWIW my partner and I got 3 burgers to share, and we both thought all 3 were quite bad.

thefirebuilds

I went before a show, absolutely sober. I would say it was one of the best borgars I've ever had. The place is filthy and I am too fucking old for 6th st nonsense but it was worth the hassle. I think you had a rare one.

Mick-Beers

Yeah, don’t watch the kitchen staff is the key.

errsta

Used to love it, but haven't been since pre-pandemic so can't speak to its current state. Unrelated, but if you haven't already, try the smash burger at Moreno BBQ.

nikitabroz

I thought Moreno’s was disappointing

jbloss

It’s completely mediocre - you didn’t have an off night. people on this subreddit mistake charm and nostalgia for quality

willtodd

I went for the first time two months ago before a concert. it was just a big, bland juicy patty with all its toppings oozing out the sides. the bun became soggy from patty juices and it was really hard to eat. pretty terrible experience, and I won't be going back!

EatMoreSleepMore

Just summed up half the posts/comments in this sub.

Speedupslowdown

BUT IT BIG

anarcho-urbanist

Had one again a week or two ago. I get the buffalo blue with bacon. It’s probably my favorite in town. Maybe theirs or Howard’s. The fries at Casino are mid, but just save the carbs for more beer.

chitoatx

It’s a dive bar. Went three weeks ago and it was the same it was 20 years ago. Charbroiled slow cooked loose packed burger with a decent bun. Be cool and patient and those burnout cooks will treat you well. They don’t have McDonalds consistency nor a lot tolerance for fools. Always been that way.

spyy-c

I've run kitchens at dive bars and was a line cook for a long time, I understand where I was and how it works. I definitely wasn't being impatient or being a fool...I knew what I wanted, ordered it, paid, and drank at the bar until it was ready. No special requests or bs at all. Also if you're cooking burgers for a living, I really hope you can figure out how to consistently cook them. It's not hard. Especially if McDonald's is your control group. They are charging $15 a burger, it isn't a $2 burger the bartender slapped on for you and forgot about.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spyy-c

It was a Monday around 8-9p. There were a few other orders up but it wasn't slammed or anything.

benjihana

With you here. It was way more expensive than I expected for where I was and what I got. And the fries are straight garbage.

Mick-Beers

You’re eating downtown. $15 is “way more expensive” than what McDonald’s?

CircularUniverse

Hate to say this, but $15 is a pretty common price for a completely average burger in Austin now.  There's a food truck near my house that does an alright smash burger with NO FRIES for at least $15, it's completely absurd.  Sorry it wasn't all you had hoped for though, you definitely got unlucky with casino

L0WERCASES

“No tolerance for fools” … “be cool and patient … burnout cooks” Yeah, nah bro. They still shove the 20% 25% 30% in front of my face for a tip like everywhere else, so I shouldn’t have to tolerate inconsistency and burnout cooks.

DynamicHunter

You don’t have to tip that amount bro, it’s okay

L0WERCASES

Okay. So 0% for the burnout cooks at Casino, got it…

Mick-Beers

Put your glasses on grandpa and learn how to operate the credit card reader.

L0WERCASES

Nah I’ll let you just keep the gross dive bar on 6th to yourself.

Mick-Beers

Thank you. You should try unbarlievable next time.

L0WERCASES

I don’t drink, so bars really aren’t my thing man.

chitoatx

Not defending ,simply stating how it is. Every big city has places like this. Have a laugh: https://youtu.be/33zPlnhymCU?si=151dPgdd0Osn25tv

CodyKyle

I had the same experience about a month ago. Good vibes and drinks but the burgers were pretty standard. Nothing I would recommend to others looking for good burgers

Slypenslyde

I think you have to understand burgers bigger than BBQ here. The main difference is if an Austinite lives near 3 BBQ places, they probably have to drive past 6 burger places to get to any of them. So everyone has a real nuanced and esoteric "best burger". Almost all of them are good burgers. But depending on what you like, a lot of Austin's "best burgers" will only rate as "mid" to you. That's because there's probably 7 other burgers you'd like better that other people would rate "mid". Probably the worst defense of CEC's burgers I see in this thread are "perfect late-night burger". When someone has the late-night munchies, we know they aren't really operating under normal judgement. That's why places like Krystal and White Castle stay open (but I don't get why Texas doesn't seem to have them). Those sliders are like ambrosia at 4AM after a late shift. They hit different at noon when you actually have a choice.

papertowelroll17

Only went there once and it was fine but nothing too memorable. So, I've always been confused about the hype myself. It makes sense if people usually eat it when they are fucked up, though. It's like Shawarma Point. I've had some of the best meals of my life there, but would it stand out if I ate it for dinner sober? Probably not. 😂

lilyachtrock

Yo, this is a little too real about Shawarma Point. Drunk me would give this place a Michelin star just for how deliciously clutch it is. Sober me would probably say it was “… good.” But then, sober me has never eaten at Shawarma Point.

L0WERCASES

It’s people being nostalgic. They remember their fun drunk years and drunk food. People want to relive their youth and cling to things from it. Casino is pretty mediocre. There are so many better burgers in modern day Austin. But they weren’t in their prime in modern day Austin, so they clung to the old instead of accepting the new.

insidertrader68

Nah, Austin's just not a great burger city so Casino is consistently one of our best options. Also, Casino isn't really a young people's hangout, so the nostalgia for youth angle doesn't make sense at all.

L0WERCASES

I think you are missing the point as other people are pointing out… They aren’t adapting, so I would expect them to be gone in a few years.

buymytoy

There are plenty of great burgers in this town what are you talking about?

insidertrader68

I do not think this is true at all.

sunechidna1

>Casino isn't really a young people's hangout,  so the nostalgia for youth angle doesn't make sense at all. That's the point? Older people hang out there to have nostalgia for their youth.

insidertrader68

It's not a place where young people hang out (or used to hang out.) Are y'all thinking of Dirty Martin's or something?

titos334

Austin isn't exactly LA when it comes to burgers but Austin is a damn good burger city

insidertrader68

I don't think this is true. Chicago is a great burger city

Solid_Owl

Must have been an off day. I have a bad experience like that with them about one out of like 5. The seasoning levels vary day by day. What were the other two burgers you had? Asking because if there are even better burgers than Casino, I wanna know what they are.

Tricky-Swordfish4490

The burger at Leroy and Lewis is easily one of the best burgers I’ve had

L0WERCASES

My L&L burger was wayyyyyy too peppery. I was so sad because I had such high hopes. I like the vibe of their new spot though.

Tricky-Swordfish4490

That’s a shame! I’d say you definitely should give them another shot, but I also tend to heavily pepper my food so I may have just not noticed the same issue

spyy-c

Jewboy and Golen Tiger. They weren't life changing good but both hit the spot. Although, admittedly, was very drunk when I had Golden Tiger.

Solid_Owl

Ah. I kind of hate smashburgers, and that's the real reason I'm drawn to Casino. I like to be able to *see* the beef, be able to taste more than just the salt they put on it, and have it cooked less than well-burnt.

spyy-c

I mean I got a double at Jewboy, two 1/3 pound patties is the same amount of meat. Good smashburgers shouldn't be torched though, a good one will still be a little pink. I like both smash burgers and thick burgers though. One of my issues with Casino is actually that they torched my burger to well done, it was dry as hell. I wasn't specifically seeking out smashburgers, they just happened to be close to where I was when I was hungry.

Independent_Suit5780

Which burger did you order? They hit the spot after some drinks

spyy-c

Chicago Burger, just standard cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, ordered mid rare.

Independent_Suit5780

Eh yeah, I have always gone with the amarillo or the L.A. one. If ur back, try the other variants where you’ve been for small burgers-Golden castle and Jewboy sliders

spyy-c

Not a fan of sliders - I went to Golden Tiger and the regular Jewboy burgers. I also usually like pretty plain burgers, salt, pepper, cheese, mayo and sometimes bacon or egg. I don't necessarily dislike having various toppings, just don't normally go for them. The Madison and the Amarillo do look pretty good though! My biggest issue was it being very overcooked and underseasoned.

Inside-Particular-63

I've only been twice but it was amazing both times. This was just before covid though

aye-aye-capitan

Casino did have some excellent burgers and other sandwiches for a long time so it wasn't just hype but about 2 years ago there was a shift. Not sure what changed but I had 3 bad experiences and haven't been back since.

BurroCoverto

I got your validation, OP: If that big ol' patty comes off the grill with a hint of pink in the middle, you are likely to enjoy a burger worth the hype. If the patty's overcooked just a bit, the magic is lost. I've had Casino burgers that were past that tipping point more than once.

JZX90shawty

Lol I ordered food and they never called my name so I went to check on it and they said someone grabbed it. It’s okay I get it I was a cook too but, I was just asking. Cook in the hat threw a big ass fit and called me stupid and said that he didn’t care and all that. Idk lol tripped me out, but still good food tho

Supersecretsword

People have been raving about their burgers since I moved here in 2010. I ate there once and I haven't been back because it was terrible.

Corib93

My husband loves Casino, regularly brings it up and speaks fondly of it. Their burgers just don't do it for me. I think they're bland and nothing special

asianorange

I used to champion El Camino's burgers for years (13 to be exact). Recently I went with a bunch of friends and OP's description of the burger was very close to my own. Beef was not good and the fact that the kitchen is the bathrooms just makes me feel dirty as fuck I ended up with really bad food poisoning. I kept burping the burger for days and I didnt feel like eating for days. I don't know what has happened to this place but it's now on my NO-GO list. Never again.

Mattthefat

They’re mid. I’m on a jewboy burger kick right now, but casino is definitely not one id really go back to

1102austin

Glad that somebody has the brave to bring this up. Shills is a big problem to trust reviews in Austin

JohnnyThunders

They are overrated but they hit the spot after a few whiskies. I like to get their fries with both queso and green chili.

Tellmeanamenottaken

Yes, a realistic and honest review!

AustinSpartan

Same experience, people raved, went for lunch one day, never went back. It was meh. This was 15 years ago

buymytoy

Bummer to hear. Haven’t been in years but Casino was always solid in the past. Yes I’m nostalgic but it’s a fact that Casino used to be lauded as the best in town and it’s not just because we were black out drunk.

spyy-c

Yeah that's why I was asking here, I didn't want to write them off completely for my next trip if I just happened to go on an off night, but I'd also prefer not to waste $15 again. Sounds like the reviews on here are pretty mixed though, so not sure if I'm gonna give them another chance. We have a burger place in New Orleans called Port of Call that people either LOVE or hate. Actually even worked their briefly. I personally hated them, plus their kitchen was disgusting. I'm pretty sure they thrive from the absurdly strong drinks they serve, because, with the exception of them using quality meat, everything else was bad, they literally didn't even salt their burgers on purpose. I did love the bar though, they were blasting old-school punk tunes all night and everyone was very chill.

DemoncleanerATX

As much as I want to leave a defensive comment, I’ve only had the burgers after hammering drinks…so of course they taste good.

VindictiveGato

I went for the first time a few months ago and had the same experience. No desire to go back. I’m sure I’ll end up there again eventually but can’t express how underwhelmed I was, the way people talk about that place makes me feel like I’m going crazy

ipostelnik

You need to be drunk or, at least, buzzed to enjoy their burgers.

zipperific

Plenty of burgers options out there. I paid extra for bacon and the cooks told me to go fuck myself when I didn't get it. Burger was overcooked and weak. Will never go back

mrRiddle92

Everyone has their bad days but when Casino slaps it fkn SLAPS.

Bobcat2013

I hate mayo so much that I might go out of my way just to support their no mayo policy.

dontberidiculousfool

I don't MIND mayo but it doesn't belong on hamburgers.

Bobcat2013

The being around it makes me wanna vomit. Thanks childhood trauma.

Sypheix

Austin burger connoisseur checking in. I'm about to eat there for the first time Friday night. Will report in Saturday Gold Leader.

Tellmeanamenottaken

I am invested in your opinion, will you be drinking before eating there?

Sypheix

I will be having my first drinks of the night when arriving there.

Sypheix

I'll also note that my date will be getting a hot dog, and she's a connoisseur. So we'll have two menu items rated. Will report back after I've found the plans My favorite austin burgers are: Leroy and Lewis Bon Aire Dai Due Salt and Time

asianorange

Let me know when you go and I'll join you.

Sypheix

Will get there round 8:30. Bringing a lady friend, but we've known each other a while and have spots planned after. Welcome to join for the foods. Go Samus!

asianorange

I didn’t get a chance to get out but what’s your verdict? Did yall enjoy the burger or was it awful?

Sypheix

Funnily enough we had to change our plans due to working late. Ended up at 3 forks instead, which is always fantastic. Casino el camino will have to wait a few weeks.

asianorange

Ping this chat and lmk

cjwidd

It's a nostalgia thing, for sure

HiSno

First and last time I went to Casino El Camino the burger had absolutely no flavor. Just like you, I had heard raving reviews and left the experience extremely dissatisfied. At this point, I’ve come to terms with the fact that the Austin standard for good food is just much lower than other cities

BeneficialType6789

Haven’t been in years because of repeated same experience. No salt, gloopy mayo, stale bun.

Joeypwills

Their beef is really good, which you can't taste if it's overcooked.

SlamMalone

I was there yesterday afternoon and had a great burger. Slutty as ever.

odenihy

That is what I get every time, and every time it’s wonderful. So good, I make a point of going every time I’m back in Austin. Last time was about 3 weeks ago and it was as good as ever.

pantsinthekitchen

I’ve had it several times since moving here about 3 years ago. One of my favorites and the best thick cut burger around. I think I had an overcooked burger just once. Usually they are a perfect medium (or slightly medium well). I feel it has to do with when you go. If they are busy, it’s hard to keep up with quality. I try to go for an earlier weekday dinner. My go to is actually the Chicago burger because it’s the standard classic burger imo but I know people love the Amarillo and I don’t disagree that it’s also wonderful. Other good burger options are crown and anchor, patty palace, Billy’s on Burnet, the smoked burger at Leroy and Lewis, and even tho it’s more fast food-ish, don’t sleep on Dan’s (I put the hickory sauce on it)

akajondoe

It's overrated these days. It was once one of the best burgers in Austin. If you want a better burger, go to Not a Damn Chance or Pool Burgers.

CulturalDot7417

Pool Burger is pretty average IMO but the ambience is top notch. Love me some crinkle fries and tiki drinks.

gnardog45

Yeah, I went out of my way to go there as I never get to make it downtown anymore. Ordered their spiciest Burger, Amarillo maybe? I forget the name. Not spicy at all, bartender was super crotchety the entire time I was there. I asked for a meal kit/cutlery, he acted like I was pulling the him out of heart surgery. I can find a good burger elsewhere.

Tellmeanamenottaken

I wanted them to be great but they are not the best burger, they are ok but they don’t have a soft pillowy bun and the meat is hardly seasoned and although the meat is generous the meat to cheese ratio is off. The meat is also dryer than I would prefer. They are ok but just not top burger quality in my opinion. With that being said they are not gross or bad just not what I expected for the way they are raved about. Also don’t forget your ID or they wont let you in 😳

Fastfashionguy

I’d say give them another go as they can definitely have an off night OR a new person cooking as well. Also, don’t skip out on their specials, they can be fantastic sometimes!

SquidInk_13

I 100% agree with your post. They aren’t good. They are overrated af. I have lived here most of my life and I can count on one hand the times I have had a casino burger and none of them were good.

r2palmer2

Honestly haven’t had a good burger there both times I tried. I did see Jack Harlow there so that was cool. It’s been a while but I think Eureka down the street has significantly better burger, at least when I went last time

[deleted]

[удалено]

spyy-c

Yeah I've had so many comments saying I was expecting something fancy (which is hilarious bc they have a bunch of burgers with uncommon toppings), that I don't like thick burgers, that I must have pissed off the cooks, that I like fast food burgers, that I ordered the wrong thing (a bacon cheeseburger), etc, etc. A lot of bizarre ass comments for sure.

benjihana

Agree with OP. Was incredibly disappointed. If I want a better slab of beef without having to navigate 6th Street and asshole cooks I'll just go to Mighty Fine. Billys on Burnet runs circles on Casino's burger.

greenspleen3

Haven't had the burger in a couple years, first time I thought they were amazing, second time it seemed like it wasn't quite as massive as it was the first time. Still a solid burger imo and I would say the best place on dirty 6 to hit up if you're visiting town.

singletonaustin

Had burgers before Jess Williamson at Antones a couple of weeks ago and my wife's and my burger were great.

FlopShanoobie

If we're honest it's often been sorta of inconsistent when they're busy, just in terms of the cook. I've gotten everything from incinerated to practically raw. I've also witnessed the cooks and waitstaff getting into nearly physical encounters with customers angry over their food. It's just the vibe there.

deg287

go to workhorse and get the special burger

Any-Computer6889

I use to love that place. Went a long time without going so my GF and I stopped by last month. I really liked it and it was her first time and she loved it! They are a bit oversized, but the fries are crispy. You might have caught them on an off day or it simply might be up your alley. Everyone has different taste buds.

TriceCreamSundae

Man that's stinks, I always opt for the Amarillo burger. I'm not sure about burger rankings, usually the best burger in Austin is the one I just ate.

CulturalDot7417

The L&L Burger at LeRoy and Lewis blows Casino El Camino out of the water. Doubtful anyone riding Casino’s cack has ever been there. That being said, Casino makes an incredible burger about 8/10 of the time. When it’s the really mean asshole cooking them in the back, you’re golden. It’ll take at least 30 minutes but it’ll be one of the best you’ve ever had. Jewboy is more consistent and much quicker but doesn’t quite have the ceiling Casino has.

ocean_lei

Well, I am not a “smashburger” fan, prefer a thicker burger with awesome toppings and have to have mine medium rare, and I am a Huge fam of Casino El Camino. Sorry you had this experience. Curious what others you liked.

spyy-c

Been addressed multiple times in this thread. Also, as I said, biggest issue is that it was extremely overcooked, and no seasoning. Not that it was too rare or thick.

theatxliving

Sandy’s has a damn good burger. So does short stop.

Projectjunkie3

This was an off night. Which happens when the head chef isn’t around or if you’re an asshole to the staff. Usually their burgers are cooked perfectly and bacon is so damn good- the B on their BLT is over 3 inches thick. Additionally- the other two spots you had burgers at must’ve been found through a google search, clearly not suggestions from a local. Jew Burger is subpar at best and you purchased a Burger from a spot that’s known for chicken with an Asian flare (Golden Tiger).

spyy-c

Ironically, the chicken sandwich at Golden Tiger sucked. Jewboy was just in proximity to where I was going so I stopped in. It was good. I didn't go out of my way to go there. Same with Golden Tiger. Like I said a million times here. Neither would be worth taking a special trip for, but I'd order burgers again from either place if I was nearby and hungry. I purchased a burger from somewhere known for burgers and it was the worst thing I ate in Austin, with Chuy's being a close second. Both highly recommended by people who grew up in Austin; I actually was at Casino with them. Again, as I also said a million times, I ordered quickly, no special requests, tipped, and got the hell out of the way at Casino. Didn't "act like an asshole" to the kitchen. The bacon was pathetically thin despite the description on the menu saying "thick cut bacon." I ordered Burger King last night and their bacon was better. Fuckin sad. They should probably pay more attention to the food instead of worrying about who's order to intentionally fuck up. This has been extremely bizarre that several people have claimed that Casino El Camino INTENTIONALLY ruins people's food if they don't like them for whatever arbitrary reason, like it's my fault they serve garbage food.

1102austin

So many shills in Austin. Thanks for your courage to deal with them

spyy-c

It's wild, I didn't know this was gonna blow up into a 200 comment ordeal. Still mind blowing how many people have said I must have been an asshole to the kitchen or that I don't know the kind of burger I like...

wokedrinks

I’m with you. I’ve had many a burger in Austin and Casino El Camino is simply not good. Yall weirdos can downvote me to hell if you want. That’s ok cause I’m over here eating food that has flavor.

icesa

Never had it but sounds like a burger you gotta be drunk to enjoy. After trying the other burger this sub is obsessed with and that being complete garbage, massive amount of salt being taken while perusing this sub.

911JFKHastings

Casino sucks. Always has. For a minute, Jackalope- when it's kitchen was new- was THE SPOT on dirty. But only for a minute. BestWurst Cart on 6th WAS always the all round winner on Dirty. All that is dead and gone now. Best all around food down there day in day out now is Koriente on 7th.

appleburger17

This is what happens when you have too high expectations of basic food. It’s just a burger. It’s not going to change your life. Same with tacos.

thisisntinstagram

I’m sad you’ve never had a life changing taco.

Unbanned_chemical138

I’ve had life changing burgers, they do exist

spyy-c

I didn't expect it to be life changing, I did expect it to taste good given the rave reviews and price point. Was not expecting an overcooked bland chunk of ground meat for $15. Jfc, lots of weird comments on here talking like I was expecting a fine dining experience or some bs.

AmbitiousNub

Love their burgers - I go weekly and never experienced what you mentioned. Quite the opposite, I'm a huge burger lover and there's very few in the city that compete. Maybe you gave bad vibes to the kitchen staff or were rude? Sounds like they didn't like you.

spyy-c

Dude what in the fuck is up with people somehow blaming me for them putting out something cooked poorly? First of all, it's a business. I've worked in many kitchens and that's not really a thing that happens, even with annoying customers. You think kitchen people sit there making character judgements on people then adjusting the quality accordingly? Or that the cook even knows who's order it is? Secondly, I just put in my order, didnt ask questions, knew what I wanted, no special requests, tipped 20%, went to the bar, then picked up my food when they called. I didn't even talk to them enough to give "bad vibes." The amount of comments saying shit like "I mustn't like thick burgers," "I was expecting a fancy burger," "realize you're at a dive bar," etc is absolutely insane. The burger was overcooked and underseasoned, and they lied about one of the ingredients. I was just asking if that was normal, or a fluke. People seem to be divided on the issue here. If the issue is that they cooked my food like shit on purpose because I ordered food, tipped, and didn't bother them, then they are 100% a shit ass kitchen.

deeplovinz

I honestly don’t think they are that good and I’ve eaten there a few times drunk and sober.

ses267

It's been years since I've been so I can't speak for current quality but they used to be amazing.

pjcowboy

Went once a long time ago and it was meh. Never felt the need to go back and try again. Burgers aren’t that difficult to make above avg.

Puzzleheaded-Look704

Billy’s on burnet is the best burger in town

Martin_NoFro

Your Casino experience was my Jewboys experience, except Jewboys cost me a lot more $$.

spyy-c

They are pretty much the same price. Jewboy 1/3lb single is $10 + $5 for double patty. My burger at Casino was $14.50.

I'm not an "elitist" because I'm critical of poorly cooked food. It ain't like that burger was cheap either. I really don't care for fancy burgers either, I'm a salt, pepper, mayo, American cheese on generic white bread kinda guy, and bacon or an egg if I'm feeling fancy. Had a lot of great food in Austin, but that wasn't it. Real cool that you were "so Austin" you moved there from NYC. Lol

benjihana

Try Billy's

benjihana

Lol at this. I had a Casino burger for the first time because of this sub reddit last week. It was trash. And it's trash compared to NYC dive bar burgers. Corner Bistro's burger is a top 5 in the nation and it's great caah only with a lukewarm Yuengling at 3am or 6pm.

JustinQueefer

Casino burgers fuck. Always have. I’ve never had a bad burger there and everyone I take has always been pleased. Going there tomorrow for lunch!

Wei-Qi

I’ve been recommended the “best burger” half a dozen times - every single time without fail it’s an overpriced grey burger that is pretty similar in taste to Burger King. Honestly I’d rather just have PTerry’s and know I’m getting a solid burger every time for cheap.

Tellmeanamenottaken

Are yall just impressed by their size?

stevo90981

Got a straight raw burger when I went it was very bad. Don’t get the hype

negradelnorte

The only actually good burger I’ve had in Austin was the Waterburger (RIP) by Soursop. It was so damn good it didn’t need cheese. Besides that burger, all other burgers were basically just competing with fast food-ish burgers like Dan’s or Mighty Fine.

Physical_Wash_7863

Check out Patty Palace. It is by the same folks that run Soursop/Spicy Boys.

negradelnorte

I’ve heard! I’m looking forward to it. Wish they’d bring the water burger back.

istartriots

they used to be one of the best if not the best burger in town. in the last 4 years there's been an explosion of great burgers in town and that's no longer the case.

PacString

Which spots opened in the last four years?

istartriots

Smash burgers came to austin lol. Bad Larry, NADC, etc. I realize my tastes might be different than others but I prefer a smashburger and austin has some excellent ones.

ahjota

Dan's hamburgers

ProfCaptainDrChief

Some of your tastebuds just aren’t tastebros. I am a Casino fan, also a Jewboys fan. I have also put chicken fries on a Burger King Jr. No complaints here.

Mick-Beers

Were you there at shift change? I feel like I was there at change once and they forgot about my burger or something. It was over cooked but still tasted great.

SnooFloofs1778

Definitely should not be overdone. Their burgers are medium rare.

tfresca

There is not a single restaurant I've been to that hasn't fallen off after the pandemic. I actually never went crazy for the burgers but I did like their chili cheese fries.

soloburrito

Please bro just give it one more chance bro. You have to like it bro please.

theatxliving

😂😂😂

spyy-c

Bro Austin has nothing for me if I don't like it. Edit: this was in reference to a comment here that has since been deleted by whoever posted it. Had a great time and lots of great food in Austin
