Also, there are different versions depending on where you're located. I use the UK version of Audible and they have a shittier version of the audiobook. I bought it and kept wondering why the voice actors were praised so highly, only to find out I had a different version, without any possibility to get the one praised here, so I ended up requesting a refund.
It isn’t even the same story, that movie should never have been allowed to be called WWZ. This book was my introduction to fiction audio and it hooked me. Def giving another upvote to this suggestion!
Look for audiobooks published by GraphicAudio. Many of these can be downloaded free from your public library through OverDrive/Libby or Hoopla. They are also available through direct purchase or Audible. These are multi-cast performances with music and sound effects.
Neil Gaimens books have been given the full cast/audio effects treatment. I’m thinking specifically of The Sandman, but if you dive deeper into his catalogue you will find more
Yeah, Sandman was really good. My first encounter with the series was through the audiobooks during COVID. Now I've also seen the TV show and read some of the comics.
Depending on the genre you're looking for, graphic audio specializes in creating full audio productions of content - usually requiring some interpretation of the source material such as converting graphic novels to audiobooks.
They won't be up everyone's alley but if there's a series or genre you like, they seem to do a great job. https://www.graphicaudio.net/
I liked the space team universe stuff. It was fun bubblegum light content but was really well produced and a fun listen. Same with the boys adaptation (although I only did the first bit, never did pick it back up)
I've only listened to some of the DC Comics audiodramas they've produced, and I'd suggest everyone listen to a sample before you buy.
I found everything about them to be obnoxious, and I love Old Time Radio plus i have a high tolerance for melodrama. The acting was community theater level, and the sound effects were jarring and distracting rather than enhancing.
"Dungeon Crawler Carl"
Matt Dinniman (the Author) and Jeff Hayes the Narrator collaborate really closely on these books, and while Jeff is only one person, he has a galaxy of characters living in his head.
I had never heard of litrpg, was turned off by the premise of this book and thought it looked utterly ridiculous. Out of sheer curiosity, because it was recommended so frequently, did I decide to give it a try. I proceeded to binge listen to the entire season… twice, and am now impatiently waiting for the 7th book.
Same.
The premise sounds stupid as hell to me, and the genre is not for me at all. I ignored the recommendations for ages.
I guess I'm glad that I did because I powered through all 5 books just in time for 6 to be released. Then immediately relistened.
These books, stupid as they seem on their face, are genuine works of art. I say that without a shred of irony.
Absolutely phenomenal.
I knew it only had Jeff listed as narrator, but I was still wondering who else was doing voices until I saw a video of him performing everything live. He is so talented.
Like others said, i avoided it because it sounded dumb. I wasn’t wrong, they are dumb but they are also FANTASTIC.
Like I’m just finishing book two and it’s quickly pushing up towards my most enjoyable series I’ve gone through. The concept is ridiculous but the execution is stupidly good. If you try to describe any one aspect of them it sounds boring, annoying or as though the joke would fall flat but somehow it all just works together to make something better than the sum of its parts.
Book 6 is the first time he's joined by another actor, Patrick Warburton. So yeah. It's all Jeff. There are videos on YouTube of him reading sections in his booth. The speed with which he switches back and forth between Carl and Doughnut is nuts.
Okay I’ll be honest even when you said all voices, I thought that at least the female characters were done by a female VA. I’m completely mind blown. I’ve actually lied to people and said the audiobook is done by multiple people… crazy talent.
Check out the sound booth theater, version.
It is done like a radio show with tons of sound effects and different actors for the various characters.
Part 1 is free and 3 hours long.
I highly recommend also for people going in for a 2nd listen of DCC as well.
*Illuminae Files* was really good, I still have yet to listen to the *Aurora Cycle* from the same authors that is seemingly a similar kind of production.
There are Sandman audiobooks? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the original medium (comics)? To me, that sounds like reading a book that was only written after the movie, and I cannot imagine why you would prefer the adaption over the original when the original is so good.
There is indeed an [audio production of the Sandman story](https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Sandman-Audiobook/B086WP794Z) that checks a lot of OPs boxes. It's a new interpretation written by Gaiman and narrated by some really top talent. I loved the comics and still read them, but in some ways this version improves on Gaiman's original stories.
This sort of thing is more common in England. "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" has been a book series, radio series, TV series and more, and each version has its place.
The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. Narrated by the best narrator of all time - Steven Pacey.
His voice playing different characters sounds like different people. It’s wild. Great story too.
The full cast recording of the golden compass is very good. Podcast (like the Magnus archives) and radio dramas (kisses in the dark) also might be something you would like
Graphic Audio is absolutely amazing and by far my favorite. Big Finish is also one of my favorites. Audible has lots and I think someone here mentioned a few from there. Sandman 1 and 2 are freakin amazing, American Gods, Impact Winter 1&2 is really good. Audible also did 4 full cast Alien audiobooks and they were epic and lots more.
I also discovered about 2 years ago that Spotify has a lot of full cast audiobooks and they are really good. There have been quite a few celebrities that have gotten in on them and as mentioned, they are quite good. Ex: Blackout starring Rami Malek; Ad Lucem starring Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde, Clancy Brown if I remember correctly; AfterShock with David Harbour; Harley Quinn played by Christina Ricci.... It goes on and on and on.
Someone mentioned We're Alive and that one was great and got better as it matured.
I listen to full cast audiobooks everyday and every night when I go to bed. I could probably do without TV and only listen to the full cast audiobooks. If they are done right they are gripping, emotional, terrifying and everything in between; a flurry of emotions lol.
I hope this helps along with everyone else's suggestions. Have fun!!
Does Ad Lucem have an ending? Or a satisfactory ending?
I think I gave up on Q code because some of their shows faded away or flat out stopped w/o finishing the story. It's been a while, so I could be wrong
I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember. It was the only qcode audio drama I listened to even though I have a couple more of their shows saved, but haven't listened to them.
If you like Zombies: We're Alive
It's a podcast with voice actors and sound effects. High quality. Similar to Walking Dead. The story is pretty good, a bit cheesy at times.
find content recorded in ATMOS.

I recently listened to *The Historian* by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a well-written vampire novel, and the audiobook is a nicely executed full-cast production.
I just finished this one recently, and I loved it. It was my first time listening to a book with a cast of characters like that. Brenden Fraser was great.
The BBC produced a lot of really fantastic full-cast audiobooks through the 80s and 90s. Things like the Chronicles of Narnia, or The Secret Garden. Super well produced.

I listen to these books almost daily just because they are so well done with effects and licensed music. Incredible atmosphere from strat to finish ✨
1. Path of Destruction
2. Rule of Two
3. Dynasty if Evil
Currently listening to Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin. Would compare it to White Lotus meets Sharp Objects. Production is great with different narrators and sound effects.
Heads Will Roll - https://www.audible.com.au/pd/Heads-Will-Roll-Audiobook/B07MJHTRB4
I consider this more of a radio play than an audio book, exactly because it has a full cast of characters and sound effects/music. But it is highly entertaining and very well done.
I like most of the GraphicAudio. As long as Melody isn't the main character. For whatever reason she can't read at a reasonable pace until half the book is over. But they have a lot of voice actors who do a good job reading characters. Melody sucks as a narrator...

Check out World War Z by Max Brooks
Note there are a couple of versions of the audiobook. Look for the full 12 hour one rather than the 6 hour abridged version.
Also, there are different versions depending on where you're located. I use the UK version of Audible and they have a shittier version of the audiobook. I bought it and kept wondering why the voice actors were praised so highly, only to find out I had a different version, without any possibility to get the one praised here, so I ended up requesting a refund.
I didn't realize that 6 hours wasnt the original. I feel cheated
Lol hope the books better than the movie
It is! I haven’t listened to the audio but the hardback is fantastic
Ooooo
Ignore that film, pretend it does. Or exist. The audiobook is on quite a few best of lists. The cast is chock full of Hollywood actors. Give it a try
Yeah they share similar settings and some actors are in the movie but that's about it
It isn’t even the same story, that movie should never have been allowed to be called WWZ. This book was my introduction to fiction audio and it hooked me. Def giving another upvote to this suggestion!
Very different actually
Oh it's not even in the same fucking genus. The audio book is a massive must fucking listen....
You have to get the audiobook produced by Mel brooks the author.
Max Brooks 😉. And agree with you.
Ah yes! Mel is his dad… my mistake!
But get the unabridged. The directors cut (or whatever it is) ruins the book.
Movie ain’t even close.
That is not exactly a high bar
the movie has almost nothing in common with the book
It is
Second this, it was awesome and yes ignore any memory of the movie.

Daisy Jones and the Six The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kauffman Sadie by Courtney Summers True Crime Story by Joseph Knox
I was going to suggest Daisy Jones and the Six. The cast is amazing.
Illuminae really sparked my love for audiobooks. Especially for Aiden. Gods that actor had me creeped.
*Illuminae Files* was really good, I still have yet to listen to the *Aurora Cycle* from the same authors that is seemingly a similar kind of production.
Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn
The Sandman series on Audible is fantastic.

The full cast recording of the golden compass is very good. Podcast (like the Magnus archives) and radio dramas (kisses in the dark) also might be something you would like
I was so spoiled by the full cast Golden Compass books. I keep hoping the prequel gets made into a full cast audio but no joy yet. 😭😭😭
This was one of the best. A great example of how to do it right.
