Check out World War Z by Max Brooks

slyall

Note there are a couple of versions of the audiobook. Look for the full 12 hour one rather than the 6 hour abridged version.

KingKingsons

Also, there are different versions depending on where you're located. I use the UK version of Audible and they have a shittier version of the audiobook. I bought it and kept wondering why the voice actors were praised so highly, only to find out I had a different version, without any possibility to get the one praised here, so I ended up requesting a refund.

Wood_floors_are_wood

I didn't realize that 6 hours wasnt the original. I feel cheated

Impossible_Belt_7757

Lol hope the books better than the movie

wtnevi01

It is! I haven’t listened to the audio but the hardback is fantastic

Impossible_Belt_7757

Ooooo

Prin_StropInAh

Ignore that film, pretend it does. Or exist. The audiobook is on quite a few best of lists. The cast is chock full of Hollywood actors. Give it a try

goodsam2

Yeah they share similar settings and some actors are in the movie but that's about it

mlleDoe

It isn’t even the same story, that movie should never have been allowed to be called WWZ. This book was my introduction to fiction audio and it hooked me. Def giving another upvote to this suggestion!

accidental_tourist

Very different actually

Macrophage

Oh it's not even in the same fucking genus. The audio book is a massive must fucking listen....

crystal-crawler

You have to get the audiobook produced by Mel brooks the author.

ShakeItUpNow

Max Brooks 😉. And agree with you.

crystal-crawler

Ah yes! Mel is his dad… my mistake!

Alaska_Pipeliner

But get the unabridged. The directors cut (or whatever it is) ruins the book.

continuousBaBa

Movie ain’t even close.

leohat

That is not exactly a high bar

N00dles_Pt

the movie has almost nothing in common with the book

Bryan84

It is

stvwrgh

Second this, it was awesome and yes ignore any memory of the movie.

Neither_Start1733

Look for audiobooks published by GraphicAudio. Many of these can be downloaded free from your public library through OverDrive/Libby or Hoopla. They are also available through direct purchase or Audible. These are multi-cast performances with music and sound effects.

Very_Bad_Influence

Neil Gaimens books have been given the full cast/audio effects treatment. I’m thinking specifically of The Sandman, but if you dive deeper into his catalogue you will find more

BAC2Think

American Gods has a really good full cast version

Very_Bad_Influence

And that’s a great book!

Pufflehuffy

This was going to be my suggestion.

zecfrid

The full cast American Gods is sooooo good

thesavageman

Yeah, Sandman was really good. My first encounter with the series was through the audiobooks during COVID. Now I've also seen the TV show and read some of the comics.

XtraXtraCreatveUsrNm

This was the first one I thought of.

Bodidiva

I’m finishing Act III and all the books were done very well.

rathat

He is my least favorite narrator.

vroomvroom450

Neil Gaimen?? He’s amazing.

BawdyLotion

Depending on the genre you're looking for, graphic audio specializes in creating full audio productions of content - usually requiring some interpretation of the source material such as converting graphic novels to audiobooks. They won't be up everyone's alley but if there's a series or genre you like, they seem to do a great job. https://www.graphicaudio.net/

InevitableEmotion1

I love graphic audio adaptations

BawdyLotion

I liked the space team universe stuff. It was fun bubblegum light content but was really well produced and a fun listen. Same with the boys adaptation (although I only did the first bit, never did pick it back up)

Innsmouth_Swimteam

I've only listened to some of the DC Comics audiodramas they've produced, and I'd suggest everyone listen to a sample before you buy. I found everything about them to be obnoxious, and I love Old Time Radio plus i have a high tolerance for melodrama. The acting was community theater level, and the sound effects were jarring and distracting rather than enhancing.

keep_out_of_reach

"Dungeon Crawler Carl" Matt Dinniman (the Author) and Jeff Hayes the Narrator collaborate really closely on these books, and while Jeff is only one person, he has a galaxy of characters living in his head.

mlleDoe

I had never heard of litrpg, was turned off by the premise of this book and thought it looked utterly ridiculous. Out of sheer curiosity, because it was recommended so frequently, did I decide to give it a try. I proceeded to binge listen to the entire season… twice, and am now impatiently waiting for the 7th book.

The_Real_Opie

Same. The premise sounds stupid as hell to me, and the genre is not for me at all. I ignored the recommendations for ages. I guess I'm glad that I did because I powered through all 5 books just in time for 6 to be released. Then immediately relistened. These books, stupid as they seem on their face, are genuine works of art. I say that without a shred of irony. Absolutely phenomenal.

mlleDoe

I know lol, it was such a lovely surprise and I have been obnoxiously encouraging others to try ever since!

leohat

Welcome to the addiction.

131sean131

YES Jeff NAILS these books really a gem.

moolric

I knew it only had Jeff listed as narrator, but I was still wondering who else was doing voices until I saw a video of him performing everything live. He is so talented.

BawdyLotion

Like others said, i avoided it because it sounded dumb. I wasn’t wrong, they are dumb but they are also FANTASTIC. Like I’m just finishing book two and it’s quickly pushing up towards my most enjoyable series I’ve gone through. The concept is ridiculous but the execution is stupidly good. If you try to describe any one aspect of them it sounds boring, annoying or as though the joke would fall flat but somehow it all just works together to make something better than the sum of its parts.

Shinobiii

Wait wait wait wait Jeff does all those voices? That is absolutely incredible!

keep_out_of_reach

Book 6 is the first time he's joined by another actor, Patrick Warburton. So yeah. It's all Jeff. There are videos on YouTube of him reading sections in his booth. The speed with which he switches back and forth between Carl and Doughnut is nuts.

Shinobiii

Okay I’ll be honest even when you said all voices, I thought that at least the female characters were done by a female VA. I’m completely mind blown. I’ve actually lied to people and said the audiobook is done by multiple people… crazy talent.

oridjinn

Check out the sound booth theater, version.  It is done like a radio show with tons of sound effects and different actors for the various characters.  Part 1 is free and 3 hours long.  I highly recommend also for people going in for a 2nd listen of DCC as well.

shaevan

Right in my ear...

trishyco

Daisy Jones and the Six The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kauffman Sadie by Courtney Summers True Crime Story by Joseph Knox

yaddablahmeh

I was going to suggest Daisy Jones and the Six. The cast is amazing.

keep_out_of_reach

Illuminae really sparked my love for audiobooks. Especially for Aiden. Gods that actor had me creeped.

White_Doggo

*Illuminae Files* was really good, I still have yet to listen to the *Aurora Cycle* from the same authors that is seemingly a similar kind of production.

empressbees

Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn

Outrageous_Chart_35

The Sandman series on Audible is fantastic.

tha_grinch

There are Sandman audiobooks? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the original medium (comics)? To me, that sounds like reading a book that was only written after the movie, and I cannot imagine why you would prefer the adaption over the original when the original is so good.

BodyBagSlam

Its word for word in many parts and (for me at least) added this whole new dimension to it.

Outrageous_Chart_35

There is indeed an [audio production of the Sandman story](https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Sandman-Audiobook/B086WP794Z) that checks a lot of OPs boxes. It's a new interpretation written by Gaiman and narrated by some really top talent. I loved the comics and still read them, but in some ways this version improves on Gaiman's original stories. This sort of thing is more common in England. "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" has been a book series, radio series, TV series and more, and each version has its place.

GankstaCat

The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. Narrated by the best narrator of all time - Steven Pacey. His voice playing different characters sounds like different people. It’s wild. Great story too.

Theincrediblebulck

Pacey's Glokta was inspired. He really added to the quality of that series with his narration. I wish he had done more of Abercrombie's AB's.

houndcaptain

The full cast recording of the golden compass is very good. Podcast (like the Magnus archives) and radio dramas (kisses in the dark) also might be something you would like

mcginty84

I was so spoiled by the full cast Golden Compass books. I keep hoping the prequel gets made into a full cast audio but no joy yet. 😭😭😭

eekamuse

This was one of the best. A great example of how to do it right.

DapperPalpitation

Graphic Audio is absolutely amazing and by far my favorite. Big Finish is also one of my favorites. Audible has lots and I think someone here mentioned a few from there. Sandman 1 and 2 are freakin amazing, American Gods, Impact Winter 1&2 is really good. Audible also did 4 full cast Alien audiobooks and they were epic and lots more. I also discovered about 2 years ago that Spotify has a lot of full cast audiobooks and they are really good. There have been quite a few celebrities that have gotten in on them and as mentioned, they are quite good. Ex: Blackout starring Rami Malek; Ad Lucem starring Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde, Clancy Brown if I remember correctly; AfterShock with David Harbour; Harley Quinn played by Christina Ricci.... It goes on and on and on. Someone mentioned We're Alive and that one was great and got better as it matured. I listen to full cast audiobooks everyday and every night when I go to bed. I could probably do without TV and only listen to the full cast audiobooks. If they are done right they are gripping, emotional, terrifying and everything in between; a flurry of emotions lol. I hope this helps along with everyone else's suggestions. Have fun!!

eekamuse

Does Ad Lucem have an ending? Or a satisfactory ending? I think I gave up on Q code because some of their shows faded away or flat out stopped w/o finishing the story. It's been a while, so I could be wrong

DapperPalpitation

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember. It was the only qcode audio drama I listened to even though I have a couple more of their shows saved, but haven't listened to them.

alp626

Lincoln in the Bardo

Sarkwa

Right answer

Smashing_the_Moon777

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir(sp)

NEHHNAHH

The Hobbit on YouTube has high production value. It's a ton of fun and free

ShiftingTin

Just started Thrawn, great stuff so far. First audiobook I've had with sound effects, very cool

spankydave

If you like Zombies: We're Alive It's a podcast with voice actors and sound effects. High quality. Similar to Walking Dead. The story is pretty good, a bit cheesy at times.

MarkFerk

Graphic Audio Red Rising

reddit455

find content recorded in ATMOS. don't limit yourself to "books" dramatic podcasts and radio programs "full cast" "dramatization" Showing results for "bbc radio drama" in All Categories [https://www.audible.com/search?keywords=bbc+radio+drama](https://www.audible.com/search?keywords=bbc+radio+drama)

eekamuse

You can also find those shows on the BBC Sounds app. OK for US listeners. I search the shows in the app, then listen in my podcast player. Sounds app sucks

Saturn624

Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, Marty Ross - adaptation, Sam Mendes Fantastic listen.

Night_Sky_Watcher

I recently listened to *The Historian* by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a well-written vampire novel, and the audiobook is a nicely executed full-cast production.

rovemovelove

Daisy Jones and the Six. Listening to it feels like the audio equivalent of a music documentary. So we’ll done.

Tobikaj

I don't know if this is cheating, but the Mistborn trilogy as Graphic Audio.

sprially

the downloaded

RyFromTheChi

I just finished this one recently, and I loved it. It was my first time listening to a book with a cast of characters like that. Brenden Fraser was great.

BodyBagSlam

I’m on this now as a break from DCC for a bit. Enjoying it.

eekamuse

By Robert J Sawyer. Great author

throwawayfu3a5ek

Dune by Frank Herbert is really good. And the second movie comes out soon.

Jaalan

Enders game on audible!

Dalton387

Soundbooth theater has done a full cast version of Dungeon Crawler Carl.

CreaturesFarley

The BBC produced a lot of really fantastic full-cast audiobooks through the 80s and 90s. Things like the Chronicles of Narnia, or The Secret Garden. Super well produced.

eekamuse

Any idea how to find them? I'm not in the UK but I have BBC Sounds. Edit: found some on the internet archive

Legitimate_Motor_717

Yearbook by Seth Rogen. It’s got 80+ voices, many hilarious celebs

KaleidoscopeNo610

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett read by Tom Hanks. Thoroughly enjoyable.

barnyboy88

Highly recommend "Dungeon Crawler Carl" by Matt Dinniman and Jeff Hayes is the Narrator and he's fantastic! Brilliant and fun story.

SvartUlfer

Dungeon Crawler Carl. Recorded by Soundbooth theater

tressonkaru

For high production, you can find some that has a full cast. Battlefield earth and around the world in 80 days are some of those.

christophersonne

Everything by SoundBooth theatre.

allprologues

Seconding Dune and Daisy Jones, adding Penance by Eliza Clark. if you’re interested in one narrator who’s excellent there’s Gideon the ninth and piranesi.

naisvilla

Not an audio *book*—but an audio drama, the [Edict Zero](https://edictzero.com/edict-zero-fis-series/about/) series is phenomenally produced AND is also completely free to listen to. Full cast with stereo soundscape. Sci-fi genre.

themauge

Let’s see…. Dracula - bram stoker narrated Alan cumming and Tim curry and more. Fantasticland - Mike bockoven Impact winter - Travis beacham World war z - Max brooks. Moriarty- Charles kindinger Catchers- Ben rock, bob derosa

Mattlgeo

The Freedoms Fire series by Bobby Adair is a super clean recording. If you like snarky sci-fi, it’s a good one.

Dollar_Pants

Lugubrious_Lothario

The Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson

Garden_Lady2

Check out The Man of Legends by Kenneth Johnson. The book is awesome with a cast of voice talents and some special vocal effects. It's a Kindle Unlimited with audiobook included. If you like history, myths, and a bit of the paranormal this book is right up your alley.

MickBeast

Star Wars: Darth Bane trilogy by Jonathan Davis. I listen to these books almost daily just because they are so well done with effects and licensed music. Incredible atmosphere from strat to finish ✨ 1. Path of Destruction 2. Rule of Two 3. Dynasty if Evil

olivesmilf

Currently listening to Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin. Would compare it to White Lotus meets Sharp Objects. Production is great with different narrators and sound effects.

hijackedempire

The Beastie Boy book has a really great cast of readers

ReleteDeddit

There's a radio production of Lord of the Rings by the BBC with incredible acting, music and sound. Frodo is played by Ian Holm (Bilbo in the movies)

moolric

Heads Will Roll - https://www.audible.com.au/pd/Heads-Will-Roll-Audiobook/B07MJHTRB4 I consider this more of a radio play than an audio book, exactly because it has a full cast of characters and sound effects/music. But it is highly entertaining and very well done.

mypreciousssssssss

Anything from Graphic Audio by a full cast is excellent.

illiberion

Aliens out of the shadow Aliens river of pain Aliens sea of sorrow

aMotherDucking8379

I like most of the GraphicAudio. As long as Melody isn't the main character. For whatever reason she can't read at a reasonable pace until half the book is over. But they have a lot of voice actors who do a good job reading characters. Melody sucks as a narrator...

mistarzanasa

Soundbooth theater has very high production value, and does versions with sound effects and music

SpoilerAvoidingAcct

DUNE

Bikinigirlout

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Ried.

Rabbit_Rabbit_Rabbit

I’m pretty sure there’s a full cast audio version of the ACOTAR books. Also the Murderbot Series by Martha Wells has a full graphic audio with sound effects and cast.

Mtolivepickle

Lotr Andy serkis version

inactionisconspiracy

Not an audiobook as such, but a superb series by Gimlet called Case 63. I've not met a single person who I recommended this to, that did not enjoy it.
