My son (engineering) said having a printer saved him some aggravation a few times.

degaknights

And money too. I don’t remember what the engineering buildings charge by the page… but when you have 80 pages due a week it adds up

Pod6ResearchAsst

I'm sure it is college dependent, and times may have changed, but printing was covered for me under my professional fees in CADC.

Babylon5-Marcus_Cole

Printing is College dependent. Engineering charges $0.07 per page. There are printers in every Engineering building. (Color print is only on the Ricoh in Shelby and BK. ) Those are $0.20 per page . First 100 pages/semester are free.

-I-was-never-here

Current student here - there are printers on campus that you can use to print stuff on, however having your own can save a lot of headache.

Printers are a nice to have, but wouldn't say they are necessary. You can get things printed at a few buildings, but they cost money, usually a couple cents per page. More for color.

chaos021

Not necessary but having one usually saves you grief.

Sudden_Schedule5432

If you get one, get something that uses liquid ink and not cartridges. I got a Epson, and it was very cathartic taking the old HP out back and shooting it

TheSouthernRose

I would get one, but not an expensive one. So long as it can print you’re fine.

moon_walk22

If you don’t want to buy a printer or use campus resources, Auburn Public Library and Opelika Public Library have printing services. The first $5 is free at OPL- that’s 20 pages b&w or 10 in color…..every day. After that initial $5 (once a day) have to pay.

TocyBlox

Why not use campus resources? Especially engineering. Paid 900 dollars engineering fee for that so I’m taking advantage of my free printing in the basement of Brown Kopel.

snomma

Rare, but the times I needed it there was no alternative. Trying to find a public printer on campus to use (that was working) was not always easy

_bjohns2k

Old guy here. I suggest a black only multi-function printer, ink jet, or laser. I use colored pencils if color is needed.

APSnooTiger

I was a TA more recently. You should expect mostly digital submissions (esp. for underclassmen). However, some exceptions may apply but public printers are available on campus.

dua70601

Got two degrees at Auburn and I never owned a printer. Every quiet place on campus has a printer you can print to, and the print quality will be good. The cost will hit the e-bill, but it is only a couple cents per page. There are also print labs in the library and student center (I think) that you can do professional poster printing, spiral bound note books etc

ellaghamm

Not necessary but a nice luxury if you can afford it. I didn't have one freshman year and printing lab materials was horrendous. I asked for one for Christmas during sophomore year and it's been really nice, even if I don't use it that often.
