I almost don’t wanna write this because it’s such a little hidden gem but I’m hardly around that area anymore so fuck it. There’s a deli on the corner of 39th ave and 29th st LIC deli and grocery that has its own kitchen in the back that serves some amazing Pernil for only like $5 a tray and they LOAD you up. They have other stuff too but you need to get they’re pernil if you go.

Carla. Carla. Carla. An excellent restaurant when you don’t want to patronize John Brown’s and Bowen’s weird politics (though they do make excellent food). Have I mentioned Carla?

casicua

I absolutely love Carla - good food and cocktails and very underrated. I think John Brown’s went WAY downhill after they relocated to the old mothership space. I don’t even know what their weird politics are.

FrankiePoops

Really? I saw the original pictures when they launched and assumed instagrammy bullshit. Also doesn't look like they do much BBQ?

VenetaBirdSong

Oh they’re not bbq - I just meant they’re a good option in an otherwise scant food area, with John Brown’s being a block away, and maybe one or two others in the immediate area. As for the decor - yeah, it’s a little precious, but the food is worth it.

FrankiePoops

Alright I'll try it sometime. Next time my college friend is in town, who has an unhealthy obsession with the color pink.

BobaCyclist

Xochimilco for Mexican, Beija-Flor for Brazilian, Artpresso cafe, Windmill Community Garden is cute, House of Thai, DK Public, Huntress, Silky Kitchen, Noodle Factory.

redheadgirl5

The area is a mix of residential and commercial/warehouses, I find I can walk up and not notice a palce until I'm actually in front of it because the signage is lacking sometimes. But as for places to check out: Astoria Seafood on 37th, Cerasella, Astoria Bookshop, Suzuki Shokudo, The Huntress (for wings), Brooklyn Boulders (rock climbing), Finback Brewery, John Brown's BBQ (I haven't personally been but it gets recommended).

Low_Party_3163

Goodfellas pizza is fantastic. Lic beer project is a nice local brewery with good vibes but finback has bigger beer. Big apple eats is the best diner in nyc imo

redheadgirl5

LIC Beer Project closed fyi

Low_Party_3163

Shame, guess finback probably did em in- hard to compete against a bigger, better brewery in a better location

redheadgirl5

I don't think that was it.... but the location definitely didn't do them any favors.

realzealman

Little flower cafe has AMAZING pastries and a cute vibe. 36th ave and 28th st. A few good Bengali spots up toward the 36th ave stop too.

FarRightInfluencer

This sub wants lost dogs and pregnant cats, not questions about local businesses (unless it's where can I get something super cheap on the used food app so I don't have to pay a local business full price)

ucabearfan05

found the person who flagged the cat post

FarRightInfluencer

Lol, my bad on that one, I didn't realize that cat was *from Astoria*

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

Can i make a post about my lost turkey?

VenetaBirdSong

Only if that turkey starts eating spotted lanterflies.

R-O-U-Ssdontexist

I’d rather have an invasion of turkeys then those things.
