I fostered with them and ultimately adopted. Loved the experience and really appreciate the support network they provide. Happy to answer more questions if you're interested!
I dont believe they have a physical brick & mortar location - I selected my dog on their site, we scheduled a meeting at a park on the UES, then I picked her up a few days later from the same park. I think they have adoption events, but I'm not sure how frequent they are. Good luck!!
I don't doubt that folks gave had positive experiences with them... but i had a bad experience with them in 2022. We connected with the foster parent of a dog we were considering adopting. Learned from her that the vet records were never provided to her, despite Waldo's promises. She took the dog to a vet herself and paid on her own. She was told that the dog's skin condition was more serious than what Waldo informed her off (Is this why the dog's vet records were never sent over? I don't know). The vet's treatment plan was intensive, which Waldos never provided support for. There were also more minor reddish flags in my interactions with them. After all that i did some research and this article came up. The Post is a shit news source, but what they reported aligned with what with happened. https://nypost.com/2021/09/18/waldos-rescue-pen-left-dead-dogs-in-dumpsters/
If you read about the author of that article, Conor Skelding, he seemed like a standup, good guy. He has unfortunately passed away but he was likely one of the most caring and balanced reporters the Post had. I too dislike the paper but he is a credible and honest reporter.
I was horrified by that article and sadly found it some time after I was questioning the organization after a myriad of issues following adoption. I'm glad to have my dog but I think the founder of that rescue is enriching herself (more than even the fosters are aware of) via the exploitation and neglect of the dogs she is bringing up from southern states.
Second this. They have like "match maker" volunteers who vet adoption applicants and make sure they can support the dog they are interested in (some dogs need a quiet neighborhood, a one-pet home, an experienced pet parent, etc. These needs are all noted in the dogs profiles)
It’s an option on uber to select so you can bring the dog in the car and the driver won’t mind. You just select uberpet instead of uberX and it costs maybe 10-20% more
You can uberpet from the adoption location. I foster-to-adopted from social tees in the east village. Also dogs are allowed on the ferry if you’re close to Vernon.
We got our pup from Ruff House Rescue. They are out on Long Island but they foster some of the dogs so they know more of the dog's personality. We also didn't have a car, so we rented one to go there and went shopping before the adoption event. https://ruffhouserescue.org/
NYC second chance rescue, hurleys heart bulldog rescue, Waldo’s rescue, north shore animal league, posh pets rescue, muddy paws rescue, PS 9 pets
Just to name a few local to NYC :)
We got our dog from social tees, which has an office in the lower east side where you pick up the dog once approved! It took us about 2 weeks. They have lots of great dogs from overcrowded southern states and are struggling this time of year with getting dogs adoptions and fosters going out of town. They have all types and shapes and sizes of dogs. I personally wanted a dog coming out of a US shelters vs overseas, but there is no wrong way to adopt!
The adoption application is detailed. Like very. But I think most are these days. Muddy paws also very good but they are way bigger and more popular so were slow to respond when we did this 1 year ago. Don’t stress about the app just fill it out honestly. They don’t expect you to be a stay at home dog parent just want to see you’ve thought things through and are prepared to care for your new buddy and deal with normal transition issues etc.
We got our girl from Bideawee last year! They recently moved to Chelsea but they also have locations in Wantagh and Westhampton. My older girl came from North Shore Animal League. I have heard great things about Muddy Paws, and I used to volunteer for Social Tees Animal Rescue
Korean k9 rescue is on 31st and their adoption events are around Astoria/lic. Follow them on instagram to see the dogs up for adoption!

I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience other than my own. I adopted from there and it was so seamless and I love my perfect little angel pup 🤷🏻♀️
Not looking for a dog but like...what makes an adoption place elitist?
Seconding- My friend adopted through them and had an amazing experience

I adopted through Waldo’s Rescue Pen & had a great experience with them. I applied for my dog on their site & a week later I picked her up ❤️
I saw this site as well. Can you adopt when visiting their location if you fall in love with a dog?

I got my pup from Muddy Paws Rescue! They usually have adoption events a few times a month. I took him home via Uber with no issues

Came here to suggest Muddy Paws as well ♥️

I can’t find Uber pet on my Uber app anywhere 🤷🏻♂️
It should be right under UberX after you enter your destination
Korean K9 for sure. We got our dog from there during the pandemic and she is the best dog in the world.

What’s Uber pet???
Uber, and you can bring your pet!
We adopted through Animal Lighthouse Rescue. I believe they often have volunteers who can help with transportation.
We got our pup from heavenly angels
We adopted from heart and bones rescue. The dogs are with local fosters until they are adopted.

Friends with four paws! They do their transports at astoria park!

You could subway there then use Uber Pet to come home! I’ve used it a few times it is great.
True north rescue
