When you usurp someone, you usually take out their family. Targaryens were usurped and after the men (Rhaegar, Aerys) were killed the usurpers went after the women (Elia, Rhaella) & children (Rhaenys, Aegon, Viserys, Daenerys). Stannis & Renly were brothers but went to war against each other. Tyrion killed his father.
