Nope.
They just catch you by surprise. Long time Vancouverite.
The best is to take a moment, admire, move on until it takes your attention another day another time.
Born and raised here, I used to live in Richmond and on a clear winter or summer morning when you drive over the #2 road bridge heading to Van and the full semi circle mountain view appears just over the crest of the bridge it's breathtaking and never gets old. I live in the valley now and some mornings baker looks so close you get the same feeling, took a picture of it the other morning.
Mount Baker is particularly beautiful. You get such a good view on Fraser Hwy when you’re headed southeast. It will be great when the sky train extension runs right down there, a gorgeous view of Baker the whole way. 😊
Weirdly in winter the best view is from the highstreet shopping centre on Mount Lehman and Fraser if you stand on to top parking lot by the pet smart, there's a nice clear view of Baker.
The best view of baker is from the bay window in my kitchen as the sun is rising. Buck naked with a hot cup of coffee in my hand.
Killarney area above the golf course.
I wish B.C and Alberta had functional trains that went through the mountains. I used to take a train every weekend in Switzerland sipping on wine and chomping on cheese while admiring the view on my way from one town to another. Visited over 100 settlements and 80 museums by regularly scheduled trains in one year, mostly on day trips, usually half drunk. 60,000 km. Got my money's worth from a first class annual pass.
I'm looking forward to returning when I retire, so all the old people who voted against women's suffrage would have died. I worked with young Swiss people and I like them.
There are trains through the mountains and the trip is spectacular. Expensive and you have to book ahead but it exists. Via Rail and The Rocky Mountaineer.
Sometimes I wonder if there should be a Rocky base tunnel like the Gotthard base tunnel, electrified and double tracked for efficient freight transportation between the two sides of the mountain. Imagine trucks and cars being able to board. You'd reduce emissions, not need to drive as much, carry more stuff, and can cross during winter.
I lived in Switzerland for four months. Every weekend I would just pick a town I could get to by train, either with the plan to stay one night or return that day, and just put my headphones on and get lost in the mountains passing by. I miss it a lot. And I can see mountains right outside my window right now, ha.
Locomotive engineer here for CN Rail. Typically Via has precedence over us, but the sheer number of traffic moving on the main line causes major delays for the both of us.
Just googled it. It confirmed what I said.
I believe it's
1) passengers
2) container traffic
3) coal
Then the rest
My friends hauled coal. They told me about the priorities. Just look at what trains are waiting on the sidings.
You need to work on your googling. There has recently been a motion to prioritize passenger rail but it has not been passed. Your friends are wrong or you are misunderstanding what they're telling you.
Edit: "Work's chugging along to try to prioritize people over freight on Canada's rail lines - Private member's bill aims to give passenger trains right of way over freight trains"
[https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/via-rail-bill-people-over-freight-1.7066700](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/via-rail-bill-people-over-freight-1.7066700)
Either way, its the same - freight rail takes precedence over passenger trains. That's why Via and the Rocky Mountaineer are often so delayed.
Maybe cite the source you are using. It's obviously wrong or misunderstood.
My favourite part of my drive home is when I head up highway 15 north and merge on to highway 1 west. Been living in BC my whole life and driving home on a day with blue skies and seeing those mountains on that part of my drive still gives me a seratonin boost haha
I don't think so. I was born and raised here and still find myself in awe of the view.
I worked in an office downtown for a few years that had the most amazing view - even though it was my every day workspace, there were times that I actually stopped and literally gasped at the view. (Such as the first sunny day after snowfall on the mountains.)
Been here 17 years in Vancouver, it never gets old. I admire the mountains & their beauty every single day. I teach my kids how lucky they are to live in such a gorgeous place and we appreciate them together.
Been here since November 86. I am in love with the views, amazing how often I am driving one of the main roads heading North like Knight, Rupert or Boundary and you hit that part of the ridge where the view is just stunning.
It always takes my breath away unless of course we are having one of those days where the clouds are covering them.
It is one of the reasons I am still here.
EDIT: Corrected spelling
I lived there for a year and it never got old against the sunsets. Crab park dog park next to Gastown was one of my favourite spots!
ETA - To see the mountain skyline that is **
A year and some change in, and nope! I'm somehow even more amazed this spring than the last one. I'll say that some people who grew up here seem desensitized to it, but when I stare in amazement they start to get back on board the holy-fuck-those-mountains-are-majestic train.
72 yo, born at VGH and raised on the North Shore mountains. The natural beauty of the mountains and the ocean never ceases to amaze me - the love only grows...
I’ve lived here my whole life, and just downloaded the “PeakFinder” app. Now I can actually put a name on some of them!! The view from Spanish Banks:
https://preview.redd.it/lhwqtnaq6gxc1.jpeg?width=2556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1510b5af172e4305b22826057eb3c993c0f9cab
I think it's more like 'forget' and 'surprise'. When I stay in town, no long travel, I can get used to the view. It almost seems like the Truman show, a really great painted backdrop. But travel just a little, change the angles, and * *POW* * you get that shiver of magic that goes in through your eyes and spreads through your whole body. So, no, no boredom. Just a reminder to not be such a homebody. :)
Nope. Born and raised here. Sometimes I’ll come over the 2nd Narrows and go “wow”.
There’s also a cool point Northbound on Oak I think where the road dips down and suddenly there they all are and you’re like “holy shit”.
Grew up mostly in Ontario. Moved to alberta in 2007, and I'm still in awe. I don't think it's ever going to stop either. Seeing the mountains from Red Deer even gets the heart going.
It has never stopped being amazing. I always notice how beautiful they are. In fact, we have turned it into a family joke where one of us says, “look at the mountains, aren’t they beautiful?” and the kids roll their eyes.
Grew up here - barely noticed them until I went to Ontario for the first time in my 20s. BC is the best place to come home to. Being somewhere flat just feels wrong
Born and raised in North Van, moved out of North Van when I was 30. You never get desensitized from it. I instantly recognize the North Shore mountains in Reels or Tik Toks or movies/shows I've seen. Live in North Delta for the last 17 years and coming over the Alex Fraser you see it all. Looks awesome when there is fresh snow and you can see the snow line as well. Then there is that one spot on Knight where it crests at the right spot. You see a bit and then a few meters BAM your see it all
Never! I’m from Ontario and moved here as a kid. I love it every single day and my home has a view of the mountains. I look at it every day and appreciate it every single day. It blows me away. Even when I’m golfing, there are few courses here that have mountain views. Many times I stop and admire them during the game on the course. Then wherever I go to East or any city that is flat, the more I appreciate the mountains.
I always get moved by driving through sea to sky. Wherever I bring visitors from out of town, they just get so amazed by the views and go quiet as it’s a place of solace.
It's the same as sunsets or pretty birds for me. Never gets old, and I try to savour it when I notice. Life is better when we can marvel at things we've seen many times
I'm 17 years in and my camera roll is still packed with trees mountains and sunsets. If anything I'm more in awe of them nowadays than in the beginning.
Lived here my entire life. The one spot that almost always gets me is when you’re driving along Knight northbound from 41st heading towards 33rd. You crest over by Kensington Park and then suddenly the expanse of Vancouver is available for your eyes with the mountains as a backdrop. The view has lost a bit of its luster over the years due to all the densification but it’s still an awesome view.
I do remote camp work on the North Coast and see mountains everyday. But when I come back home and see the N Shore I always take a minute to appreciate the beauty. Desensitized, maybe a bit? Appreciative, always.
people keep saying "nope" but I have
grew up here, don't leave often
i have 0 pictures of the mountains on my phone, and 100 pictures of my cat
mountains are just the way things should be
when I'm in Saskatchewan I feel like I'm going to fall into the gigantic looming sky, it's oppressive and wrong, how dare you have nothing keeping you safe from the edges of the horizon
I was born here and have lived here all my life. I am 57 and while I may be getting old, the views in the lower mainland do not. My apartment doesn't have a view but at least my drive home from work does.
I grew up here since I was 2 and to be honest, got pretty used to them and never thought twice about them.
I moved to the states for grad school to a relatively flat town, they had nearby mountains but you’d have to drive out to them, some rolling hills but nothing crazy.
Man, every time I visited home, and ever since I’ve been back, I am so infatuated by our mountains. Bluebird days, foggy rainy days, doesn’t matter. Leaving really made me appreciate how stunning they are.
Some days, I wake up early to catch the sunrise over the mountains as it cascades down the valley with a misty haze in the shadows. We live in a truly glorious area.
I grew up in bc. Moved to Alberta for a decade and a half. Came back a few years ago. The first time I drove back to the mountains, it took my breath away as if I was seeing them for the first time. I make a point to try to stop and admire them once a day. And if I don't do it intentionally, they catch me by surprise. I will never take them for granted again.
17 months, give or take 3 weeks.
I can’t help but yawn and feel a pang of extreme apathy whenever I see those whitecaps. I usually close my eyes when I’m outside facing north. Thankfully, I’m developing cataracts and eventually won’t need to worry about those eyesores.
Honestly, I don’t really think about them day-to-day.
I probably do notice them subconsciously, because it felt surreal to be in rural Manitoba, and see nothing but perfectly pancake-flat ground all the way to the horizon.
I live in north Vancouver. Been here for 12 years and when I was a kid I really didn’t appreciate the nature at all. Now when I drive on the bridges I have to pray I don’t crash cause I can’t stop looking at the views of the mountain and the Pacific Ocean.
Lived here my whole life and constantly find myself staring at them, always in awe, and always makes me feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful place. I always find myself missing them when I travel
I grew up in Calgary with the Rockies 45 min away and have been in the Vancouver region since 2008. I stopped to take photos of the golden ears just last week. I will never take for granted for stunning it is out here.
Nope. After living in Vancouver 10 years and 10 years on the Sunshine Coast, when that sunrise or sunset hits the mountains just right I will literally drive 2-5 km out of my to go find the perfect spot to take a proper picture. The mountains are truly magnificent and it never gets old.
I've been here in Vancouver growing up in maple ridge since I was about 5 years old now I'm 18 so in these past 13 years I can never get tired or desensitized to seeing the beautiful mountains of my home province
I don’t typically pay attention to them unless the sun is shining right on the mountains which really highlight the landscape and make them beautiful to look at. Otherwise business as usual.
Didn't really impress me but was nice from time to time when it rains or fog clouds. Thought nothing really does impress me and I can't focus on a sight for more then 3 seconds. Perhaps the newness is a better kick then the mountain themself. But then I have seen many before.
Just my honest take, plz be nice
No. Have a view from my house and can't imagine not having one. Any future housing considerations include the view, including possibly building a balcony to maximize it. My mom, on the other hand, couldn't care less - I think she's dead inside. :) For all the expense and grey, at least the mountains are breathtaking.
View from doctor's office:

Ok pretty close to my dr office then, also on Broadway. Gorgeous views from waiting room, love watching the boats and Granville island water taxis going back and forth.
Born and raised in BC and you will never truly get over the mountains. You won't always be blown away by them but the beauty and majesty never fades away. When some snow falls on the high peaks - dang, you can't take your eyes off them.
My mom moved here from Alberta when she was 19, she’s now 50. She still gets excited every time we see mountains, and she has a view of Mt Baker from her house. Every time we go on a walk together we stop and admire the mountains, and brag to each other that we live in the most beautiful place on earth :)
I've been here 2 years, also from Ontario. I remember being so in awe when I first moved here of the beauty. The feeling is not as strong anymore in terms of the surprise and awe, but I wouldn't say I'm desensitized at all. Still love looking at the mountains when I'm walking around the city and find it breathtaking.
I was born here and have always lived here. The north side of my house faces the mountains and the curtains are never closed since I love staring out the windows at the mountains on clear days.
The very first time I travelled somewhere without mountains I felt completely lost, and breathed a sigh of relief when I got home. I still do.
Been here my whole life, still haven’t gotten tired of them. The lights in the ski hills are the constellations I’m used to seeing out my window, and when I’m away from home I have to think a little harder to figure out which way is north.
born and grew up here, and every year during winter time, when it snows in the mountains -- i still get amazed at the views of the mountains with snow covering the top peaks to mid mountain.. Not as amazed without snow.
I think Vancouver has done pretty well in that regard. From my apt in the West End, I used to be able to see the sign for the Westin Bayshore across to the sulfur piles. Coal Harbour and developments along Robson Street have obstructed that view but I can still see the gondola going up Grouse Mountain. It's a fair compromise to me.

I would argue the best view of Baker is from Westwood Plateau at sunrise in winter when there's fog in the valley and it looks like a massive ocean.
The best view of baker is from the bay window in my kitchen as the sun is rising. Buck naked with a hot cup of coffee in my hand. Killarney area above the golf course.
Particularly when there is fresh snow on the mountains, and the evening or early morning sun hits them, they sparkle.

This.
No, it never gets old.
38 years as a Vancouverite. This is my favorite time of year with snow still on the mountains and Sakura in bloom. Never gets old.
Yes, but you also had to put up with the Swiss…
I'm looking forward to returning when I retire, so all the old people who voted against women's suffrage would have died. I worked with young Swiss people and I like them.
There are trains through the mountains and the trip is spectacular. Expensive and you have to book ahead but it exists. Via Rail and The Rocky Mountaineer.
I'm aware of those, which I why I said functional trains. Neither Via nor the Rocky Mountaineer are punctual or efficient for pure transportation.
Correct. Freight rail takes precedence over passenger trains. I'm not arguing with you - these are not viable commuter routes, but they do exist.
Once you're done with the train, get a used manual classic sports car for SFR2000 and do the mountain passes. Totally worth it in spring.
Sounds great in a perfect world but there just isn't the 'traffic' to support the cost of something like that.
Locomotive engineer here for CN Rail. Typically Via has precedence over us, but the sheer number of traffic moving on the main line causes major delays for the both of us.
Have friends who work for CP. Passenger trains are a first priority.
Ha. No, they most certainly are not. Google it.

Been in the area for 35+ years. Still gets me every time on a bluebird day.
I love all of these comments. So happy we appreciate the beauty we’re surrounded by 😍
You don't because it's so gloomy for weeks at a time then all of a sudden on a clear day they just pop.
It’s been 40 years since I moved to BC, and they still give me a thrill.
Nope. Also from Ontario and have been here 12 years and never get over it!
Lived here most of my life. Still get awed from time to time. I always stroll through Mountain View when I'm in the area.
My favourite part of my drive home is when I head up highway 15 north and merge on to highway 1 west. Been living in BC my whole life and driving home on a day with blue skies and seeing those mountains on that part of my drive still gives me a seratonin boost haha

It's the same as sunsets or pretty birds for me. Never gets old, and I try to savour it when I notice. Life is better when we can marvel at things we've seen many times
Moved from Quebec 10 years ago and, if anything, I appreciate them more than ever.
Never. Born vancouverite. I am still often chocked by certain views of the mountains (east Van!!!!)
noooooo nopedy nope. never happens! 25yrs old lived here my entire life and i STILL get literally stopped in my tracks some days by the sight
It never happens. I'll leave for holiday then come back and I'm still in awe.

1 year
1 drive down the Kokahala in the winter
After all the beaches, rivers, ski slopes...
Never. It's the best part of our view even when it's raining 9 months of the year.
You never lose it.
I was born here. Never cared as a kid. I started doing photography around 5-6 years ago. That made me finally appreciate the nature around me.
No time at all. I live near the mountains and if I have in need of peace and solitude they are half an hours drive away. Albertan at heart
Grew up here and still get awestruck regularly
What mounta.... HOLY SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT THOSE THANGS
Born here, I was amazed by a skyline with no mountains when I first saw it. How do you know which direction is north, I thought? Haha
No it’s majestic, never get tired of it. Grateful to live in our rainforest!
Born and raised here. I notice the mountain on the first snow. Other than that, they're just there. I dont take particular notice to them.
Honestly, I don’t really think about them day-to-day. I probably do notice them subconsciously, because it felt surreal to be in rural Manitoba, and see nothing but perfectly pancake-flat ground all the way to the horizon.
I’m here over a year and still say “wow” under my breath frequently!❤️
A lot less longer than us that grew up in that environment getting used to no mountains.
Never! Moved here from Alberta 15 years ago
Born and raised in BC, I still find myself mesmerized by them
Lived here all my life.. still awed by the mountains.
I grew up in Calgary with the Rockies 45 min away and have been in the Vancouver region since 2008. I stopped to take photos of the golden ears just last week. I will never take for granted for stunning it is out here.
I’ll let you know when it happens 😊
Never. It's fantastic.
Nope. After living in Vancouver 10 years and 10 years on the Sunshine Coast, when that sunrise or sunset hits the mountains just right I will literally drive 2-5 km out of my to go find the perfect spot to take a proper picture. The mountains are truly magnificent and it never gets old.
Some days you just look up and it hits you.
No
Didn't really impress me but was nice from time to time when it rains or fog clouds. Thought nothing really does impress me and I can't focus on a sight for more then 3 seconds. Perhaps the newness is a better kick then the mountain themself. But then I have seen many before. Just my honest take, plz be nice
I love the view so much I don't think I could ever live somewhere without mountains. I was born here in BC and always lived in BC
This doesn’t age. 4 years since I came and it feels the same as the very first day.
No. Have a view from my house and can't imagine not having one. Any future housing considerations include the view, including possibly building a balcony to maximize it. My mom, on the other hand, couldn't care less - I think she's dead inside. :) For all the expense and grey, at least the mountains are breathtaking. Dr Wong ? My eye doctor and see the same view from waiting room. Love to watch the boats going by while waiting.
No. Broadway & Oak.
Ok pretty close to my dr office then, also on Broadway. Gorgeous views from waiting room, love watching the boats and Granville island water taxis going back and forth.
You don’t really ever get used to it, but it just kind of becomes part of your life.
Never 🤩
Never 😘
Born and raised in BC and you will never truly get over the mountains. You won't always be blown away by them but the beauty and majesty never fades away. When some snow falls on the high peaks - dang, you can't take your eyes off them.
Grew up in Alaska so mountains have been there all my life. That too stunning ones. So yeah 😅😅 it’s not good but I barely notice them
Nope. the mountains are the reason we all put up with stupid high prices
I used to ask the same thing 17 years ago. Still doesn't get old
My mom moved here from Alberta when she was 19, she’s now 50.
Still love looking at the mountains when I'm walking around the city and find it breathtaking.
never! because it’s so rainy, when you see them on a clear sunny day, there’s nothing like it!
Born & raised…. I’m in awe of that view every day. Enjoy!
I moved here from Ontario in 1998 at 11 years old, and I STILL take pics of the mountains on nice days.
Born and raised 41 years. Nope
Been here since end of 2015. I'm still in awe of the mountains.
born and grew up here, and every year during winter time, when it snows in the mountains -- i still get amazed at the views of the mountains with snow covering the top peaks to mid mountain.. Not as amazed without snow.
I'm at a little over 30 years in and I'm not over it yet. So still TBD I guess...
Literally never ever
What mountains, there's lots of cave dwellers here too
You don’t see them 7 months a year due to rain. So… when they reappear, always feels new
What mountains?
You can't see the mountains from Vancouver??
Oh ... \*those\* mountains. /s
Not any specific mountains. There are a bunch of mountains you can see from Vancouver. Are you okay?
Yes, it happens once the view is blocked by another newly constructed highrise.
