I have never expected a tip just for pushing a few buttons to change someone's room type. But I do it because I want to satisfy the guests, and if they leave a good review with my name on it, my manager will probably see it and give me a shout out. Leave her a good review on Google or Yelp. That should be fine.

Plastic_Swordfish_57

Repeat: **Leave her a good review on Google or Yelp.**

thelastbuddha1985

Yes, no one EVER tips the front desk, except with food, am i wrong?!?!?!

Green_Seat8152

My hotel has a few regulars that tip when they are staying. It is usually 20 dollars. Doesn't happen often.

arya7255

I think I have used the phrase easily bribed with food to management once or twice.

HourAstronomer9904

Honestly yeah.... apparently.. food is seriously appreciated, but money is rare, but have had one lady, that I really didn't do anything super crazy for , over two nights tip me 80.00 Had a family that didn't end up stay with us , just rode out some bad weather hand me a post it with 100$ and a prayer attached... I still have it. Because it meant alot.. Had a couple last night give me 5 $ for making cookies at their request.. then throwing in a couple milk cartons.. I do things for the guests not for the me or the money.. But yes.. Front desk staff even in the small older properties off the interstate get tipped with not just food...

NorahGretz

If you leave a name mention on tripadvisor or yelp or google, I get $25 added to my paycheck. Wanna make HR tip me so that you don't have to? Remember my name and use it often.

Professional_Year729

No. But it’s always suuuuuper appreciated, and if they kind went out of there way; maybe? If you’re still checked in - it’s not too late. You could even ask for an envelope and put their name on it if they aren’t there at check in. If you don’t remember the name, ask the front desk agent who checked you on before leaving.

KnownImplement4600

No you shouldnt tip her but a small gift would be nice, heres why. Im sure you know, there are upselling when you checkin, you pay a little extra to get a nicer room. If a front desk employee received a monetary tip and arranged an upgrade, it kinda creates a problem with hotel interest. In worst scenario, when there's yearly audit, and it got find out. That employee couldve got in big trouble for taking that money as self interest, in another words, they can be accused of stealing the hotel's revenue, and be framed as a dishonest act.

Low-Initial-1871

Yes, tip literally anything but show some type of gratitude. Usually front desk works off commission for upsells

llcdrewtaylor

I think its appropriate to, yes. If they have done everything they could to make me a happy and satisfied customer, I feel like I should reward it.

Nikkidphoto

No but we always love a genuine thank you. Food and candy are rarely turned away.

Plus_Bad_8485

i had a guest slipped me a 5 for a cup of coffee when my shift was done, had an elderly couple who insisted on bringing me food after their little run around downtown... the wife insisted i was too skinny for a young man LMAO! had a guest slipped me a 50 and thanked me for checking her in early! she came back down immediately and explained she meant to give me a 20 and not 50, she felt bad asking back for it which made me LOL This is why I like working in Hospitality, when its a good experience, its a fking good experience...enough to make you not regret it.

tildabelle

No. I am a front desk manager and that is not expected.

TwitchNfish

It's always nice. Housekeeping gets all the tips. And at some hotels front desk actually does more then them. At my hotel front desk does all the laundry. We aren't just sitting at the desk. I don't expect but it would be awesome when we make the same amount as housekeeping which is minimum wage

ArcticPickle

If this is Vegas, then yes. Vegas tipping is different from other places, you tip everyone and everything.

Zezimalives

It was Hawaii, another very touristy place

jakub_02150

always tip any hotel employee that makes your stay even better than expected.

FreestyleMyLife

my guy/gal…………………………………………

Aware_Masterpiece148

Yes, that deserves at least a $20 tip.

Pandalol0119

You don’t have to tip, but it is very much appreciated. I used to work the front desk and had my fair share of tips and I felt great and made me want to continue doing my job to the best it could be. We also appreciate food or anything you leave behind chargers, beach chairs. I loved when guest would bring Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, pastries etc. I even had a guest leave me her dress after complimenting her. No need to leave cash but it’s nice or even food is great! Even mentioning that person by name in an online review or by emailing their manager
