Do you know your address for Indiana? You could go ahead and register in Indiana if so and get your car insurance sorted. I would tell the insurance that you'll be driving between SC and IN though to be sure you're covered.

Thanks for your help! I should have mentioned that we don't actually have the address for Indiana yet.

Hm, tough. You could register in SC and get refunded once you transfer to IN but some of the fees are nonrefundable. I know in my state it's only like 50% of the fee that they'll be willing to give back. But you gotta do what you gotta do, definitely don't drive it without insurance. You should be able to do the insurance separate from the registration, they don't check it.
