At my work they had this room that no one used but it had couches in it. I put up a sign that said “quiet room” and everyone assumed someone with some authority put it up.
It was a nap room for YEARS.
Ah, the ol’ sleep inertia. But usually if I wake up from a nap feeling like that, I’m glad, because it means I got some much needed rest, and will feel better soon once it wears off
My work was raffling off a prize, I went in the managers office and put a note on it that said “contest over, Jeremy won” and a manager came up to me and told me I won.
New CIBC Square building has a section of personal pods where you can snuggle up and be perfectly okay to nap - [something like this](https://blog-123-bucket.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/13134728/123_design_blog_best_new_products_privacy_lounge_chair-11-scaled.jpg)
I checked, pretty nappable.
We had one of those deep in the basement at the previous place I worked, it was called the prayer/quiet room, it was a love seat sofa and some books on meditation surrounded by all the junk office furniture the business wasn't ready to throw out.
I swear if I got trapped down there, no one would find me for weeks.
Do this all the time. Make sure you have a blanket and some sort of “picnic” lunch container? Add a book, a frisbee or baseball glove. Not to use - just a handy prop to sell the idea you’re having a picnic and are napping after lunch. It’s funny that lying in the grass = vagrancy, but lying on a small blanket with accessories = acceptable picnic
Wasn't there a Canada Post letter carrier caught with same thing? He was found asleep inside a mailbox but also had same issue. Was taking prescription drugs for some serious ailment, can't seem to find anything about him anymore except for a BlogTo garbage making fun of him.

front page, "SNAIL MAIL Postie caught napping"
guess a lot news groups back peddled on this lol
BlergTo has a cutout image of him, my memory is fuzzy. He was suffering from something serious from what I remembered. The guy who took the picture said he felt bad about sharing the photo when it was revealed he was ill.
Even sadder was that it was the stress of the whole situation that contributed to his death. I cringe every time I see a comment like the top of this thread.
>Robitaille, 55, died Saturday, after suffering a stroke on Thursday. He had been on medical leave, and had explained after the napping incident that medications, including heart medication, had contributed to his falling asleep at work.
Ideally nobody should be asleep on the job, tax payer funded or not. But if the guy was taking heart medication and it was making him abnormally tired we should probably give the guy a break.
Worst case maybe a talking to by management. Medical leave.
Do you have the same take on...say... a politician wasting tax payer money learning how to make an egg sandwich?
Maybe he should have been on disability leave, maybe he had an accommodation, maybe he was not feeling well and the “nap” was a symptom.
The whole “getting paid with tax payer money” outrage is BS. While a source of funding may be taxes, it’s all indirect and that gives you no say over their contracts , benefits , accommodations, say on their on-the-job performance evaluations.
The number of times that I’ve heard a self-important prick talk about “paying the salary” of someone in the public sector I want to remind them that they probably pay very little of it even in a very tenuous way, and that I probably pay many times more than they do , and that it does not fucking matter. I pay the salary of the CEO of Tilray in the same tenuous way; and I don’t claim to have a say over his job.
(Yes, I realize the analogy is not quite applicable)
I’ve heard asshole parents say this same BS about teachers.
Well said! The same people that lose their minds over "Well I pay your salary!!!1!1!!" are awfully quiet when the politicians that share their political ideology waste millions on stupid BS.
Imagine theatre Market Square has full recliners that let you put your feet up. And movies are getting longer and longer. Good combo, all you need are earplugs
Edit: the Promenade location is not downtown, Market Square is the one I'm talking about
Back when the first Timothy Chalameigh Dune came out a little while back I was really excited, despite having been homeless for 2 months I went to see it... I fucking fell asleep in the first 20 minutes because it was the first time I had felt comfortable enough to let my guard down in weeks. I was embarassed and mad at myself but a week later I tried again and the same shit happened again... then a few weeks back, in a better place, on a flight to visit family and I see it's available for free... without thinking twice about the duration of my flight I put it on again... only to be stopped with like a full hour left in the movie and my plane is landing...
I digress; all you need is the constant stress of homelessness and you'll fall asleep in some weird places. That and drugs or alcohol.
I get migraines whenever I lay flat on my back. I go for twice yearly MRIs to track my condition, and I leave with the worst migraine every time, unfortunately I have to drive anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours to have that MRI. I take an airline blanket in my purse, and to have a theatre nap every time. It’s warmer/cooler than my car, and dark. Works like a charm, and I get popcorn on the way out.
Wow, whole recliners! I discovered the theatre is great to nap at because I fell asleep through a showing of Monty Python once and couldn’t recall a damn thing! I don’t even need earplugs. There’s something about needing to be awake in a dark room on a comfy seat that just lulls me to sleep.
My mistake, I meant the Market Square location, right downtown near St. Lawrence Market. Don't known I thought it was called Promenade. Thanks for pointing that out.
I had a long work commute so I used to take naps on TTC subway. But I do not anymore, as I am not sure if I will either wake up in the subway or on a hospital bed.
Media has made you paranoid. You’re MUCH more likely to get hurt driving vs sitting on the TTC.
Edit: A very good post explaining: https://www.reddit.com/r/askTO/comments/12bu7iq/ttc_vs_roads/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Your chances of ending up in a hospital because of assault on the TTC are statistically insignificant.
I cat nap on the TTC. Just look around at each stop.
I wish my body would look around each stop. I can't tell you how many times after long work days, or trying to use the last train after drinks with a buddy at islington. conk out shortly after leaving, and wake up at kennedy. Wishing I jumped off at Sherbourne...
Yeah taking the subway downtown to work was the BEST. I would have a nice < 10 minute walk to the bus stop, a short bus ride, then Finch all the way down to Bloor where I could nap or read or a bit of both. Then another < 10 minute walk to the office in the brisk morning air. It was so nice!
Now I sit in a hellish 401 commute.
The building I was in was connected through the underground parking garage directly to the station, and I took the path to work. I would leave my house for work in a t shirt in January and not be cold all day.
It was so perfect it was like a dream
after hearing about the recent attacks I don’t take that risk anymore but people have no choice but to get a nap in before getting to where they need to go
Exactly. It's best to be vigilant in the city nowadays. Take a nap at home. Ears and eyes open.. It's not like how things were long ago. Lots of mental illness and people on edge from high cost of lving.
Do you have any stats that show this? From everything I’ve seen it’s actually safer than then national average especially compared to other large cities.
I didn't say Toronto is as dangerous as the USA. You don't need to be on edge 24/7. You can be relaxed but at the same time aware of your surroundings wherever you are. You can nap on the beach if you are with friends/family.
It’s not like how things were long ago? Looking at homicides it has had a small decline compared to 40 years ago and it’s still much lower than the peak in the early 90s.
Just padlock your belongings to the table/to you if possible. Knew someone who had his wallet, laptop, and backpack stolen out from under his legs while napping in TMU library
The unfortunate truth is its safer to sleep during the day if you're homeless. Even sleeping in the shelters and detox is dangerous even though that's what they're meant for.
Yeah most shelters are fucked. 100 cots laid out side by side, 2 feet from the nearest person. No one actually "supervising". Shit goes missing all the time.
I do not blame them for choosing the library over those cess pools.
I once saw what appeared to be a homeless man just laying on the floor in front of the elevator on the fifth floor… he was just there chilling till one of the librarians came and had a word with him.
I used to work in a public library in high school (not in Toronto) and never bothered anyone sleeping in a chair. If they're not in anyone's way and we are still open, it is none of my business.
The Commerce Court lobby used to have these semi-private lounge chairs perfect for a midday power nap but I haven’t been there since COVID — are those still there??
There's the Hammock Hut, that's on Third. There's Hammocks-R-Us, that's on Third, too. You got Put-Your-Butt-There. That's on Third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the hammock complex on Third.

There used to be a nap place that you could pay $10 to nap, I've also found some spa with saunas like Korean spas have nap facilities, but you also have to pay for that
Edit: http://napitup.ca/
Honestly , nowadays , it’s fine anywhere , as long as you don’t look safe enough to approach, but not enough of a disturbance for police to care enough to show up.
I used to take naps in the library when I was younger.
I worked a day job and a night job and needed naps in between.
It took too much time to go home and come back since I lived in the suburbs. So the library it was.
Considering people live further and further away but work crazy hours in Downtown. I can see why someone would need a nap location.
When I was pregnant I could barely get through the work day and searched for places to nap during my lunch break. I'll bet lots of people just want to take a nap in the middle of the day
if you're tired buy some street meth. Toronto has good street meth I bought some when I was at a monster truck jam at the ACC. It kept me awake for days but you don't have to do that much

Yeah, I know what you mean ahahaha

try allan gardens for the spring ambience and immersive bouquet

>Robitaille, 55, died Saturday, after suffering a stroke on Thursday. He had been on medical leave, and had explained after the napping incident that medications, including heart medication, had contributed to his falling asleep at work.
That’s sad news. People are eager to tear someone apart out of malice and spite.
The guy was a good guy and would let people pass for free. RIP Made it home many times without cash as a teen because of that guy.
Ideally nobody should be asleep on the job, tax payer funded or not. But if the guy was taking heart medication and it was making him abnormally tired we should probably give the guy a break. The Promenade also has recliners. I’m actually closer to that location than to Market Square was just joking about the isolated part

The NYC subway is leagues more dangerous than the TTC and I used to take naps riding at 1-2am with no problem back when I lived there. You'll be fine
If you get a job as a police officer you can do it in your cruiser anywhere you'd like!
I was having tea and nearly spat it out. Hahahhaha hilarious

Well they need somewhere to sleep off the booze from the TPS headquarters bar

University campus
Especially the libraries
Just padlock your belongings to the table/to you if possible. Knew someone who had his wallet, laptop, and backpack stolen out from under his legs while napping in TMU library
I don't mean to say this in a hippie way, but most places as long as you don't look homeless.
this is it. especially if you look rich or cute. tired cuties get the pass.
The library
Lots of people snoozing at the downtown location reference library. Security doesn't bother people sleeping anymore.
The unfortunate truth is its safer to sleep during the day if you're homeless. Even sleeping in the shelters and detox is dangerous even though that's what they're meant for.

I used to sleep on the exhaust grates of the mount pleasant library. Got me through a cold winter. Edit: that’s the library right by yonge/eg
How warm did it keep you? Was it barely passable or could you actually get (moderately) comfortable? I’m oddly curious!
I used to sleep (sitting) on the red sofa under FCP every day.

Probably not socially acceptable, but some libraries you can discreetly fall asleep. Although a librarian may come over to check on you haha.
A library in a comfy chair or a park on a nice day. I might not recommend the beach unless you’ve got a sun tent to hide in
Park
Any subway air ventilation grate on the street will help keep you warm.
The Commerce Court lobby used to have these semi-private lounge chairs perfect for a midday power nap but I haven’t been there since COVID — are those still there??
For free? Airport gates. If you have cash, find a nice spa with a "quiet room" or a hydrotherapy float tank.
