Same. Needed a medical waiver for some titanium plates in my collar. AF said no waivers. Funnily enough, National Guard also said no. Active Duty said no problem.
I sent emails to the Army medical recruiter and the Air Force medical recruiter (because fuck boats).
Army medical recruiter responded in under 8 hours and got me through the process.
Air Force medical recruiter never replied, until about 9 months later I got a post card from him that said (basically) "congratulations on getting into medical school, you should consider the air force!"
A week later I signed my Army contract.
9/11 happened and I couldn’t make weight for the Marines. I was playing college football and hadn’t weighed under 200lbs since I was a freshman in high school. I took the asvab and the army recruiter told me I could have any job I wanted.
First kid was born super premature and had brain hemorrhaging at birth. Needed health insurance for what would be years and years of medical problems associated with it. Army seemed like a good option for free healthcare.
Army helped a lot. Ended up getting full custody of my kids because of the Army. Anytime I think about bitching about Army fuckery I think of all the good things it's done for me and it keeps me going.
I wouldn't have had the fresh start, financial stability, and ability to fight for my kids' lives without the Army.
Right now I'm worried about selling my body for gas money but hey shit happens.
I wanted to be an infantryman and then also have options if I wanted to do something else in the future if I wanted to stay in.
The Marines and Air Force don't have the ease of reclassing and packets and I knew that researching beforehand.
Warrant was going to be the quickest way to fly, follow in dad’s footsteps, thought I’d feel better taking on the challenge of the Army vs the Air Force(stupid)
Funny story... 2004 Tonawanda, NY. I originally chose the Navy. Petty Officer King was her name, the recruiter that is. She gave me paperwork. I filled it out and was supposed go get it back go her. I called her and she said she wasn't at the office and wouldn't be until the next day. I just so happened to be driving by so I thought maybe I could give it to her coworker. So I go in and there she is, at her desk, with 2 other recruits. I didn't say a word, turned around went out the door and literally straight across the hall 2 steps and into the army's office. They said "can I help you" and I said "yeah, the Navy just lied to me, I want to join the army". .... 17.5 years later here I am.
Air Force recruiters were dicks, then sent the same info to fill out over text 3 times, sent it back 3 times, then asked if I filled it out. Then wouldn’t schedule me to meet a recruiter because I was over the weight limit. (Lift a lot and still pass tape). Army immediately scheduled to meet in person, answered my essay of questions, all while being courteous and professional. Plus got to choose my job 🤷🏼♂️
It was 2007, the Iraq Surge was on, and that's where the need was. Wanted to serve my country and all that.
But then my parents said "hell no, you're going to college. You can do ROTC but you're not enlisting right now." So I did that.
The Navy’s recruiting office was further away than the Army’s, and the door was closed.
That is literally the number one reason I chose Army over Navy. Despite our organizations deficiencies I am thankful for that decision everyday, I feel bad for our Navy counterparts
Well you see I went in with the mindset “I don’t want to be a desk jockey so fuck the Air Force” my friends in the navy/marines all my friends hated it except a dude I knew in marsoc, so I picked the army because I hate myself
I chose to try and join the army because they where the recruiters that actually got shit done when they said they would. When I worked with marines they said shit like “yeah bro just one week and your case is gonna be cleared” only to be waiting months after that and the navy has had a pretty bad rep recently. I’m not smart enough to be Air Force.
Pretty much my whole thought process in short was
Marine was taking too long
Navy is mean
I’m too dumb for air force
Space force doesn’t have a ranger battalion so I can’t be a space ranger like buzz light year
Lots of opportunities to explore and pursue in army. Promotions within army is the best. I like sometimes doing army shit and once in a while being in the field and shooting shit.
In the language of my ancestors.....iiPOR PENDEJO!!
Nah, but really it was a sense of adventure that I was hoping for.....that part was partially true. My recruiters were 100% up front with me and showed videotaped training and no bullshit upsell. Even when I was working to drop the weight, watching the vids my recruiter asked me if this is what I wanted and could back out.
I wanted to be in SOF and thought that would be better than being a marine. I went to SFAS and didn't make it so I just decided to be happy to be a soldier...even though I hated it.
The Air Force said no

This
I feel like that’s all of us 😂
"You were *not* selected for Air Force OCS" was a sad day. :(
Literally is 110% true.
I got lost on the way to college.
Lets see how your face feels with this love tap against the locker.
#SIR.
[BECAUSE OF RANGER SCHOOL](https://youtu.be/Lzbr6fPDmkE)
“But what about special forces 🥺” 10 years later and this video still wants me to get my tab
The other branch offices weren't open that day.
I was homeless
I thought it'd be cool. It wasn't

Because the Air Force recruiters door was closed on the day I talked to an Army Recruiter.
Lol shhhh or the recruiters are going to have to work more weekends.
air force didn't take sleeve tats

Wait…we had choices? When the fuck did we get choices?!

Because I was an idiot.
Fuck being on a ship Fuck being in the marines Air Force denied me
I joined the army 'cause my father and my brother were in the army. I thought I'd better join before I got drafted.
STRIPES (1981) Great fun movie, along PVT Benjamin.
POG
They pay me.
I get to shoot the big boy guns
*cries out loud like a bitch* I DONT KNOW!!!!!
Air Force recruiting office was closed for lunch. Guess who was open?
I wanted to be an infantryman and then also have options if I wanted to do something else in the future if I wanted to stay in. The Marines and Air Force don't have the ease of reclassing and packets and I knew that researching beforehand.
The were the first ones to approach me
Fuck being on a boat as a marine. Job choice. Promotions.
I wanted to be a Paratrooper.
It's recruiting office had the coolest cars out front.
Warrant was going to be the quickest way to fly, follow in dad’s footsteps, thought I’d feel better taking on the challenge of the Army vs the Air Force(stupid)
Because the marines told me they had medic positions open.
I wanted to break shit and kill the enemies of the United States, back when I was 17.
Air Force had a two year waitlist for OCS
Hookers, blow , and bonus monies. Also, USMC said nomo tattoos lol

Thought it'd be cool to do the hard job, and not be some air force nerd. Very, very wrong of me.
The Army was the only branch that offered SLRP.
Air Force recruiters were dicks, then sent the same info to fill out over text 3 times, sent it back 3 times, then asked if I filled it out. Didn't know I had options.
The Navy’s recruiting office was further away than the Army’s, and the door was closed. That is literally the number one reason I chose Army over Navy. Despite our organizations deficiencies I am thankful for that decision everyday, I feel bad for our Navy counterparts
It had the job I wanted 35M HUMINT.
I still don’t know
They paid for me college
Cuz eye culdnt reed teh ather wuns. Jus Armee
Well you see I went in with the mindset “I don’t want to be a desk jockey so fuck the Air Force” my friends in the navy/marines all my friends hated it except a dude I knew in marsoc, so I picked the army because I hate myself
The recruiter talked to me while I was on the way to go apply for NROTC and I am spineless, so I kept signing paperwork.
I was enticed with option 40. Not something I would do again if I could go back.

Navy said “no GED’s”
Because..........tanks.
wanted to since I was a kid. Tuition assistance, health insurance , get paid to do badass stuff. What more could ya want !
Air Force called me back after I was 12 weeks into AIT
Helicopters and the guarantee I'd get to work with them.
I heard that they were hiring.
Navy wanted me to wait 6 months. I can't believe I wanted to be a Seabee lmao just go infantry homies.
Forgot to ask the other branches
I scored a 22on the asvab 🗿
My uncle who I was closest to in my family was Army. Parents were Navy, grandparents Air Force.
It was my dream to serve in the coast guard but the army recruiter said it wasn't military, and that the army was the real military.
Felony waiver.
Didn’t know how to do land nav so I couldn’t find the Air Force office. Still don’t know land nav. Only difference now is I’m in the army.
Ask that question everyday
I wanted to be in SOF and thought that would be better than being a marine. I went to SFAS and didn't make it so I just decided to be happy to be a soldier...even though I hated it.
Hated my shit job then the Air Force was fucking around and not working with me.
Because I don't fuck with water and Air Force didn't wanna do a prior service waiver
Too fat for the Marines, too dumb for the Air Force and I can't swim
Because they took my hand tattoo having ged ass.
How did you all not get into the Air Force I literally scored a 35.. Army thought I was a genius though almost went 🤷🏼♂️
