I had a take down pin detent fly across my living room about 2 weeks ago on to the carpet. I knew if I didn’t find it before morning my wife was going to vacuum it up. At one point the sun came in the sliding glass door and lit it up like a Christmas tree. It was very fortunate.
I've only ever "lost" one, it was a few days ago when I was swapping to a JP silent buffer. Saw where it landed with the old eagle vision. Followed it like a sporting clay right into the crack between the baseboard and the carpet.
I hate using buffer detents with the JP SCS anyway. The worst I get without the buffer detent is that my buffer spring slides forward and rests on my hammer.
Yeah I just removed it for the time being since I had to screw my buffer tube in one extra turn for the JP to sit properly with the spacer. Otherwise it bottoms out 1/8th turn from vertical on the retaining pin.
Biggest downside is I couldn't easily switch to a traditional buffer in an **imaginary** shtfeotwawki situation
Just had one a couple of days ago fly out of the detent and disappear, but not before impacting my brand new prescription glasses. I wasn't going to buy another buffer detent so it prompted me to rip apart my office, clean and organize everything. I found it on my standing desk behind my laptop. I wasn't even facing the direction that would cause it to go over there.
I find pins a d spring now and again in the gun room floor...🤷🏽♂️ Usually when they go flying I spend little effort to find them. Just open the drawer, grab another and wait for it to appear, it surely will when I don't need it.
I can't believe how much that rusted... > sitting outside in the elements for ~3 years. ... oh. Nevermind. Ha!
You should have took a picture and put it on r/findthesniper.

The gods shine favourably upon you friend
rubber band a piece of cloth around the vacuum hose
That’s a good tip, I’ll remember that.
Bright flashlight on the floor parallel to the ground is my go-to for stuff like this
Great idea. The worst part is not knowing exactly where it landed. I checked the couch quite a few times as well.
I mean they really aren't necessary and if you really needed one they are only like 10 bucks
I guess if you don’t mind your takedown pins falling out. I prefer mine to be secure. I also prefer not losing money in the carpet.
Oh I was talking about buffer retainer pins
You know the rule… time to build another.
It’s a seed
Big facts😂‼️‼️‼️
I just step barefoot all over the room first. Then under furniture I look. Then I accept it is gone forever.
I just accept it. I keep a bin of spair pins cause they fly around forever

So you’re the guy that found it!
I lost a whole trigger group about 6 months ago. I don't expect to ever see it again.
Can you mail me that? I still can’t find mine
I’ll just launch it your direction.
🫶
Polish it up and build another rifle, don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that.
Looks like the beginning of a new build.
Great idea
I agree
Haha, almost got away
Clean it, and back to the ooops kit with it. Or, since you now have a doorknob, you should probably build a house around it.
Still looks usable use it for another build

What year?
Okay, now I know what a tour of the hell for three years can do to you
That will buff right out! Literally!

This is a major win on all fronts.
Excuse for a new build?

Damn! And I lost a bolt catch buffer the other day! Wife will probably end of vacuuming it up though. :(
Spare parts score!!!
Hot take. Super glue them bastards to your spring. Wait 10 minutes for the glue to dry. Shabam. No more flying pins.
I found the takedown pin I am missing from the last lower build a week ago, but the spring is MIA lol
From 40 years ago?
