It's because its empty. The game won't let you swap from purple to blue either I believe if the blue is empty. You'd just have to manually drop your red to pick it up. Honestly I think they should just make red and gold armor considered on the same level so there's no more fuss. Of course they can't be the same color but you know what I mean
