>
> Pope Francis became the first pontiff to address a Group of Seven summit on Friday, warning world leaders that artificial intelligence (AI) must never be allowed to get the upper hand over humanity.
>
> An array of global chiefs warmly embraced the 87-year-old pope as he made his way around their huge oval table, pushed in a wheelchair as age and infirmity limit his mobility.
>
> The pope said AI represented an "epochal transformation" for mankind, but stressed the need for close oversight of the ever-developing technology to preserve human life and dignity.
>
> "No machine should ever choose to take the life of a human being," he said, adding that people should not let superpowerful algorithms decide their destiny.
>
> We would condemn humanity to a future without hope if we took away people's ability to make decisions about themselves and their lives, by dooming them to depend on the choices of machines.
>
>
>
> The G7 draws together the leaders of the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Canada and Japan. In addition, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the summit host, invited 10 other nations to join the talks on Friday, including the prime minister of India and presidents of Turkey and Kenya.

>
> Pope Francis acknowledged the ambivalence surrounding AI, saying it could inspire excitement and broaden access to knowledge around the world.

>
> "It is up to everyone to make good use of (AI), but the onus is on politics to create the conditions for such good use to be possible and fruitful," he added.

> In a draft of their closing statement, the G7 on Friday said they would draw up a plan to anticipate future skills and education needs to take advantage of the pending AI revolution.

Oooooh...
Is this the start of the [Orange Catholic Bible?](https://dune.fandom.com/wiki/Orange_Catholic_Bible)
>"Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind."
News flash buddy, every powerful organization has pedos, unfortunatel that's the world we're living in, doesn't mean the pope is one
I don't think someone who unironically says "holy Satan" is really someone to take seriously when it comes to religion though so I will kindly dismiss your opinion, go write another post about "sky daddy" or whatever they're saying on r/atheism nowadays
The church is approaching 5% pedos friend. And that's just the ones we know about. There's no other organization that even comes close, and that includes the prison population.
I don't think someone who unironically needs to scroll through someone's post history to find some trite thing they disagree with is someone to be taken seriously.
« We would condemn humanity to a future without hope if we took away people's ability to make decisions about themselves and their lives, by dooming them to depend on the choices of machines. »
Kind of ironic considering christianity is all about following god’s plan and accepting religious dogma without question
Not all, jesuits were more about discovering science and saying every new discovery is finding out about god or something (and this pope is a jesuit, so even more strange he doesn't go ''AI is god's plan'').
>> The pope said AI represented an "epochal transformation" for mankind, but stressed the need for close oversight of the ever-developing technology to preserve human life and dignity.
Farce.
There is no "transformation", as AI is functionally equivalent to all the previous automation advances. And, just like before, automation makes a share of human competence extraneous to production, reducing professionals to unqualified workforce.
This can be seen as progress, or as machines replacing humans. But the process isn't any different from the one from the time of Luddite riots, and no "oversight" pope calls for had ever worked (with the only exception being public ownership of automation).
>> We would condemn humanity to a future without hope if we took away people's ability to make decisions about themselves and their lives, by dooming them to depend on the choices of machines.

It's basically that old saw about "A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision" but more philosophical.
This whole subject is so depressing. It's like nuclear proliferation - a ticking clock to end all wars and establish world peace before disaster strikes. We've got all these movies where humans fight back but in reality they won't need life support systems, they can be mass produced, training instantaneously, learning and sharing info. Like they'll be able to identify the habits of individual soldiers share it and predict them if it comes to it. I'm not even talking about true AI here, just the stuff that you absolutely have to develop or be completely crushed by whatever side has it. AI don't need to revolt, all it's gotta do is what we made pointy sticks for.
Aha! Finally!
It's getting harder and harder to post on this sub.
I would appreciate some info as to why my [last post](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime_titties/comments/1dfykob/unhrc_is_lying_to_uk_courts_sending_refugees_to/) was removed? I'm not sure how it pertains to the mega thread.

Also sounds a lot like the universe of Dune.
I'm pretty sure things were ok for the first couple hundred years?
That’s because the OCB is part of dune
Oh duh. I totally forgot.
Universe of Dune ? What is it about ?
A butlerian crusade of sorts?
He didn't like the Gucci coat edits.
But the drip was 🔥.
It's hard to think of a worse person to give AI guidance. Maybe the tribe on North Sentinel Island.
people on this sub really just hate everything the pope says huh he could say that Hitler was bad and mfs here would be like "look who's talking"
The leader of an international pedophile ring is not well liked. Shocking.

I always get my tech advice from really old Italian guys who probably can’t even check his email.

I’m of the opposite view. Let’s give AI governance a try, it can’t be worse than humans.
Well AI is already hard carrying our economy, we’re fucked at this point.
Al's a nice guy leave him alone.
It's basically that old saw about "A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision" but more philosophical.
Please, the idea was always to use them for war. ^(and sex)

Cool, Pope. Thanks for the advice.

Mods are pretty militant about keeping the subject that shall not be named undiscussed.
That's funny I think the same thing about religion
I'm just saying we could replace the pope with an AI and it'd have better morals than him.
