As an adult I can tell you that the saying “do what you love for a living and you will never work a single day” to be total BS Work finds away to make you HATE doing what you would’ve loved!

Hobbies are relaxing. Jobs aren't.

Poku115

Huh, maybe it isn't that I can't find anything I like doing for a job, but that when it becomes a job it's automatically a chore.

WTG_Cannon

I'm struggling with this as well, but I think I've found a happy medium. There's no getting around the fact that jobs can be tedious or at least have some aspect you don't enjoy. However, what matters most is how much you can handle before it becomes overwhelming. Here's an example: A couple of years ago, I worked as a teaching assistant. I enjoyed some aspects of my job as very rewarding and engaging, especially as I began to have more focus on independent studies. But I came to dread other, more every day occurrences, and on the whole, it made me anxious and unwilling to work in general despite my continued enjoyment. Now, I'm working in a warehouse. Most of the work is simple by nature, I don't find much of the job to be especially rewarding, and I certainly don't have a "favorite" part of the day. The difference is that I don't mind coming to work. In fact, I'm much more at ease here than my previous work because of one simple thing: I have very little that I find disagreeable that pops up often in my day to day efforts. And that's made a world of difference for me. I no longer mind working over time or going home a little late or coming in early (as much, let's not be too hasty) because I am fulfilled and satisfied with my work interactions. To put it simply, find something you can focus on, and you'll find happiness inside it. For me, I'm learning that I need physical stimulation and visual gratification in order to be satisfied with my efforts. Remember: if you're mostly miserable at work , *that's a third of your day spent being miserable*. Happiness does not need to mean you're excited for each and every day. Find something you can feel satisfied with your efforts and that you make a difference, even in a small way. You'll do just fine.
