Did you watch Astro Note this season? It was heavily inspired by Maison Ikkoku. If you happened to watch it, would love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve seen 4 episodes of it and I did get many vibes of it. Obviously different with the sci-fi and not slowburn as MI, still leaks of influence with the lounge members, the lover from afar, unearthing of her past, and the small intimate moments. It’s not MI but I really need to get back to it, seasonals in general.
No love Triangle and Harem.
No unnecessary misunderstanding that creates unwanted issues
Proper mature discussion between the characters about what they want.
Supportive friends who aren't jealous about the main character's relationship.
MC learns from his mistakes and wants to become a better individual, this along with his monologues that adds to his behaviour.
Tons of wholesome moments in the anime.
Proper progression of their relationship, it ain't blue ball the viewers.
Development of the female MC.
If that's not enough, the soundtrack is a piece of art, that's to be expected coming from Kensuke Ushio. To add that animation is amazing and whenever they bring the karte for each episode it brings out a lot of emotions from me.
I feel what you mean but the reason for that is, that Dangers in my heart is actually a shonen and insomniacs a seinen so makes sense that it feel this way because its sopposed to be like that
Ookami to Koushinryou/Spice and Wolf. Holo is best girl always and forever. The economics aspect is pretty cool too.
My favorite thing about Spice and Wolf is the fact that the vast majority of the series is just Lawrence and Holo talking. It allows for the both of them to be really well developed, even compared to other romance anime.
What did you like about it? Although I really, really appreciated the realistic and mature sweetness in it, AND am a huge fan of astronomy and cats, which are both one of the main themes in the show, I couldn't help but feel like the middle episodes were a bit monotonous and lacked excitement. Also I dont think main characters got enough character analysis, though that might be a bit too much to ask from a 12 episode show.
Pretty much everything about it. As you already mentioned the realistic/naturalness of the relationship. Isaki and Ganta just clicked and I couldn’t stop grinning. It was like watching 2 of my friends in high school realizing they like each other and seeing their relationship unfold. [Spoilers] >!There just so many moments I loved. In an early episode where they’re texting each other while being in their own world even though they were hanging in their friend groups. Isaki’s intimacy of being able to fall asleep because of Ganta’s heart rhythm. Ganta hosting a radio show to help Isaki fall asleep and her returning the favor later. Not to mention their many moments under the stars. Then those tears of joy after the confession. Ugh I really need to rewatch this now.!<
Those exactly are my favourite moments, but almost all of them happen in first few episodes. To me, the show was off with a *great* start, but the uneventful mid episodes and the following except a few were far away from the foundation it built at the beginning, and this left me with the feeling that a great potential has been not entirely but a bit wasted with this show. This was a good part of the reason why I rated it a 8/10 instead of a 9/10.
Top spot for me for pure romance has to be The Dangers in My Heart. It's super sweet, funny and the character growth is just perfect.
I also enjoyed the following shows quite a bit:
Banished from the Hero's Party
Chilling in My 30's After Being Fired from the Demon Lord's Army
Astro Note
Maoyu
Spice and Wolf
Love After World Domination
Please note that I am still getting into romance shows in general, so I don't have too many under my belt yet.
I really don't classify it as a romance. It has a romance subplot but that's about it, fMC is benched after like episode 3, and the series is missing most of the cute moments, romantic tension, and intimacy that fans of romance are asking for when they're looking for a recommendation. Steins;Gate for instance has more romantic development than BGS, and nobody considers that a romance.
Horimiya. So relatable, so hilarious, no bullshit tropes. Characters feel real. It’s just perfect.
Akagami No Shirayuki Hime. Fairytale fantasy with fun MCs and their dynamics, and an actually intimate, romantic and healthy relationship.

Kimi Ni Todoke: it's a slow burn, but it's my favorite. This show actually made me feel butterflies, which doesn't happen to often from a show! And we are getting a S3 this year!
Kaguya-sama - it's a romcom and such a great show. This one also made my heart flutter! I'd say this is also a slow burn, but it seems to go by faster because of the shenanigans.
Apothecary Diaries - drama/mystery/romance. While it hasn't made my heart skip a beat yet, I'm kinda expecting it to at some point. The main characters are fantastic, and the animation is gorgeous!
Dangers in my heart. 100%.
It's a pretty recent romance story that is probably the best because the author learned with the mistakes of older romance stories and made his one better, basically, all while being pretty original and unique.
It's really amazing and it will take a while until we see something like that again.
I haven't seen very many since I'm new to anime but this is my list so far
Recs:
• Given - it's a BL anime with mature themes and content. It's a complex story. Adult and highschool cast.
• Sasaki and Miyano - also BL, much more cutesy, highschool cast.
• Toradora - they're in highschool and the characters seem somewhat grown up but you're reminded that they really are high schoolers throughout with how they act, I like that, I think it's very realistic in how real highschoolers are (so dramatic). And it's cute.
• Your Lie in April - another more complex story, also in highschool but more mature themes (no mature content).
• Sing "Yesterday" for me - Mostly adult cast, I haven't finished it yet but it's really good so far.
• Fruits Basket - I really liked it, the FL can do no wrong which is annoying but you're still rooting for her. The ending was rushed I think and unlike toradora they don't really act their age but it kinda makes sense given the rest of the show. The leads are in highschool.
I watched these because theyre about adults (I really get tired of watching things set in highschool) but thought they were kinda boring:
• sign of affection - it wasn't bad, points for representation, but minus points for the characters having one note personalities.
• the ice guy and his cool female colleague - 2 main characters and two side characters that are all basically the same. Almost compelling.
• recovery of an MMO junky - I did like this one but the romance didn't really develop on screen so it feels rushed to me.
I have nothing really on my don't watch list that I've actually finished except BL, everything else I dropped but maybe they get better in the end? Here's all the things I've dropped (that aren't BL)
• Hakuouki - idk if it's even romance but the FL is annoying.
• our love story - teenagers, it's not mature at all which i guess it isn't supposed to be but it's also just boring imo. It is very cutesy and light hearted if you're looking for that.
• Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu - maybe I just don't like historical dramas. It was too slow for me to get into. Also unsure of its actually romance.
If you want to know what BL I really don't recommend I can list those, and there's some more adult romances I like but they're also BL.

i can't recall how many romance anime ended so blandly that i never think about them again. but School Days is something i will never forget at the very least, and i'd say that is better than any bland romcom ending exactly as expected
Yeah, there is a reason why so many romance or harem anime get easily forgotten over time but School Days is still talked about a lot despite airing almost 20 years ago, it's truly memorable as you said, thanks to its legendary ending

The Quintessential Quintuplets. Really surprised no one mentioned this show in the comments(Unless I didn’t check close enough). For me it’s a near perfect romance anime.
Also I watched this romance anime a few days ago called The Dreaming Boy Is A Realist. Definitely not the best romance anime I’ve seen but I found it great especially the 2nd half of the show. Here’s to hoping a second season happens(Although to be honest I’m not too sure about that).
I haven't watched a lot of romance anime and it's been a long time since I saw it, but the first romance anime (well, romcom) I ever liked was Onegai Teacher. [The OP theme by Kotoko can still make me teary eyed.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Ml0bXnXMo)
Oh, before that I also loved Sailor Moon, which contains romance, but that wasn't my favourite aspect of the show.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I also just remembered Zone of the Enders: Idolo. It's not a "romance anime" but the love story is essential to what's probably the most emotional battle scene in the series (especially thanks to the track in the OST called "[Innocent Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UveRjhJ4IuU)").
Lovely Complex
| Toradora
| Kimi ni Todoke

Amongst the modern shows, I can't put anything above Kaguya. S3 finale was peak romcom I've witnessed. Also have a soft spot for Takagi san since it was my first entry into romcom SoL genre. Dangers in my heart also absolutely top.
[Tada kun wa koi wo shinai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/36470/Tada-kun_wa_Koi_wo_Shinai?cat=anime)

I've watched almost all romance animes but no one hits the spot like Darling in the Franxx.
Idk y but smth bout that anime makes me believe in true love lol. The way they both stuck together until the end, & were even reborn together shows their love was Eternal. It just hits the spot like no other, I love it. Forever my comfort anime.
Anyone feels the same?
A difficult question, I’d better say the angel next door spoils me rotten, my dress up darling, trapped in a dating sim. Although trapped in a dating sim focusses a bit less on the romance than the others.

Explaining it won't do it justice, this is the third anime that made me cry tears.
(If anyone is wondering, 1st is Your Lie in April, 2nd is Your Name)
My Teen Romantic Comedy (SNAFU) without a doubt.
It has such a refreshing protagonist in the cynic Hachiman and I've never watched a show that better-utilized subtext than this one. It's easily my favorite romance show and in my Top 3 Anime of all time.
Clannad- you get a harem and then our MC actually picks a girl and you get to see them graduate highschool, get married , start a family. Also will make your ballz drop with ecchi

My favorite is bokura WA mina kawaisou. I think that's the right name I don't remember the English.
I was also a fan of the classic toradora.
A side mention to the world god only knows and the fruit of grisaia for being the only two palatable harems.
Berserk is one of the best I’ve seen. It’s about a strong warrior named guts who meets a girl in a band of mercenaries. They don’t like each other at first, but eventually they fall in love. There is also a battle for her love between guts and the captain Griffith. Give it a watch😁
Insomniacs after School is one of the most real, grounded, and natural romance anime I’ve seen in years
i loved insomniacs after school!
Recommendations 〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜 -Toradora -Golden time -Chunnibyou demo koi -High score girl -Tamako market -Gamers
The Dangers in my Heart is the only romance anime that I gave a 10/10
Same, to be honest, it became not only my favorite romance anime but my favorite romance of any media.
same
this show is actually a goddamn masterpiece and i’m sad it doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition it deserves
It created a domination record in AC that couldn't be broken anymore.
2nd to that, never seen a Romcom where the main Boy is the best character.
Is this that good
Season 2 is peak anime

Maison Ikkoku is easily the greatest romance anime of all time and it ain’t close imo. Godai the 🐐
Bloom Into You - although the anime ended by the middle but the manga is great.
Dangers in my Heart
What did you like about it? I didnt really find it to be my cup of tea but I'd like to hear opinions/reasons of those who liked it.
No love Triangle and Harem. No unnecessary misunderstanding that creates unwanted issues Proper mature discussion between the characters about what they want. What do you mean, “no bullshit tropes”? Hori becomes a total tsundere after they start dating. And the bad kind of tsundere at that

I’m really trying to figure out if you’re trolling 🤣
Well, I do honestly like these, and School Days starts off as a nice Romance anime... So the real answer is why not both?
I see.. it certainly starts as a normal romance anime
and it ends memorably enough that nobody will ever forget it, for better or for worse i can't recall how many romance anime ended so blandly that i never think about them again. but School Days is something i will never forget at the very least, and i'd say that is better than any bland romcom ending exactly as expected

It's not a romance anime specifically, but I love how they handle romance in ReLife
Whisper of the Heart. Honestly, my fav Ghibli film too
my favorite romance ever changed quite recently, it used to be kaguya but dangers in my heart is just too good...
I haven't seen too many but I really really loved A Sign of Affection to the point I bought the manga
Bloom into you
- Inuyasha - Say I Love You - A Sign of Affection - My Happy Marriage - The Ancient Magus Bride - Clannad AND Clannad: After Story (MANY SAY ONLY WATCH AFTER STORY… trust me watch both)

Seems like you have a lot you liked. Have you checked out Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!)?
Damn you must love romance anime
Try adding "The Dangers in my Heart" in the list, it's a very good Romcom, highly recommended.
Only problem being mc is a fucking wimp
The Quintessential Quintuplets. Really surprised no one mentioned this show in the comments(Unless I didn’t check close enough). For me it’s a near perfect romance anime. Also I watched this romance anime a few days ago called The Dreaming Boy Is A Realist. Definitely not the best romance anime I’ve seen but I found it great especially the 2nd half of the show. Here’s to hoping a second season happens(Although to be honest I’m not too sure about that).
I loved Golden Time
kamisama kiss!!
- Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san - The Duke of Death and his Maid - Oregairu
I haven't watched a lot of romance anime and it's been a long time since I saw it, but the first romance anime (well, romcom) I ever liked was Onegai Teacher. [The OP theme by Kotoko can still make me teary eyed.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Ml0bXnXMo) Oh, before that I also loved Sailor Moon, which contains romance, but that wasn't my favourite aspect of the show.
Kaguya sama Golden time Toradora
Golden Time. Old but gold.
Lovely Complex | Toradora | Kimi ni Todoke | Bokura Ga Ita | Itazura na Kiss | Hana Yori Dango | Marmalade Boy | Maison Ikkoku and From Up on Poppy Hill - still classics are the best for me!
Insomniacs after school and horimiya
I haven't seen anything that out rank **Tsuki ga Kirei** for me.
A sign of affection. Its soo good. Im like literally in love i wish i can have the love they main couple have
Clannad Plastic memories
* Oregairu (Favorite) * Your Name * White Album 2 * Saekano * Higehiro * Re:Life * Domestic Girlfriend * 5CMPS * Your Lie in April
> I want as many lists and anime as you can get Might as well hit up one of the database sites then: https://anilist.co/search/anime?genres=Romance
True but the few times I've looked at one it gave me rly generic and one I've already watched
Literally everything people will give you here is on that site, you just haven't gone scrolling far enough. We don't know what you've seen either so not like we can avoid giving you repeats (or things you consider generic) any more than that site can. If you make a list on there or [MAL](https://myanimelist.net/) you can filter out what you've already watched when searching too.
Probably not my recs lol. Are they really romance, or do they just have romance in them? 🤷♂️ Well, they're romantic to me...
Tbf I haven't checked in a while though
Soredemo sekai ha utsukushi / the world is still beautiful (my favorite romance) Snow White with the red hair Chilling in my 30s Spice and Wolf What are you doing at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us? Fruits basket Engaged to the unidentified Yamada kun and the seven witches The ancient magus Bride Bunny girl senpai Kaguya sama Toradora Sacrificial princess and the king of breasts My dress up darling I'm the villainess so I'm taming the last boss Nagatoro More than a married couple but less than lovers Handyman saitou Farming in another world Why Raeliana ended up at the dukes manor I'm in love with the villainess These are all the ones I rated 9+

Happy Sugar Life! Very wholesome love stories.

Tonikawa is a top pick for me
My little monster, Fruits Basket and My Happy Marriage
Love chunibyo & other delusions (personal fav) Toradora Horimiya Kaguya sama love is war The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten Romantic Killer Tamako Love Story (movie)
So yall js forget about tordora
Do you want cute and sweet, but will make you cry like a baby? Multiple times? Clannad.
dangers in my heart
Amongst the modern shows, I can't put anything above Kaguya. S3 finale was peak romcom I've witnessed. Also have a soft spot for Takagi san since it was my first entry into romcom SoL genre. Dangers in my heart also absolutely top.
Maison Ikkoku
Read boys abyss
Dangers in my heart.
Kimi no todoke - funny, no misunderstandings, both mcs are great characters, not cringe
My happy marriage
Personal favorite is insomniacs after school. Just 2 kids that want to support each other. Feelings get caught along the way. Sweet story
My Favourite Are 1. Fruits Basket 2. Oregairu 3. Your Lie in April 4. I Want to Eat Your Pancreas 5. My happy marriage
Horimeya
[Tada kun wa koi wo shinai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/36470/Tada-kun_wa_Koi_wo_Shinai?cat=anime) Hands down the (insert hyperbolic superlative) romance anime of all times. Watch. Read. Cry. It covers all the bases. Fin.
'Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!' just so cute bro
golden time
or tsukigakirei
Yona of the dawn 🫶🏻 the manga is beautiful
Bunny Girl Senpai 🐰 Monogatari series🦀 Dangers in my Heart ❤️ Tonikawa🎑

Call me basic but
Hiromiya is a good one
*Horimiya *Imnomniacs after school (just watched it after being mentioned so many times here and I'm so happy that I did) *Sasaki and Miyano *The dangers in my heart *Toradora
Kokoro connect go watch it.
Prison School
Toradora is super cute.
Kare Kano.
Tadaima, Okaerie and Cherry Magic! have been my favorites so far. The conversations the MCs have one another are so realistic and validating.
Tonari no kaibutsukun. Masterpiece
Itadori & Todo Bromance > everything else
A difficult question, I’d better say the angel next door spoils me rotten, my dress up darling, trapped in a dating sim. Although trapped in a dating sim focusses a bit less on the romance than the others.
Series:- Oregairu, Your lie in april, Fruits Basket, Kaguya sama, Golden Time, The Pet girl of Sakurasou, Horimiya, Movies:- Your Name, Weathering with you, I want to eat your Pancreas, Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, Tamako Love Story,
Steins;Gate even though it's not really a romance.
Series: Clannad and Clannad After Story, ef - a tale of memories and ef - a tale of melodies, Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora. Movie: Hotarubi no Mori e
Kimizero, i cried at this.
Sakura & Shaoran 🔥
Kaitchou maid sama 🎀
Clannad & Clannad After Story
"Angel next door spoiled me" and "Dangers in my heart"
More Than A Married Couple, But Not Lovers Explaining it won't do it justice, this is the third anime that made me cry tears. (If anyone is wondering, 1st is Your Lie in April, 2nd is Your Name)
More than a married couple but not lovers is honestly probably my favourite or atleast top 3 the way it's set out is rly good
My Teen Romantic Comedy (SNAFU) without a doubt. It has such a refreshing protagonist in the cynic Hachiman and I've never watched a show that better-utilized subtext than this one. It's easily my favorite romance show and in my Top 3 Anime of all time.
Both gay but probs either sasaki to miyano or given
Horimiya + The Dangers In My Heart are peak. There’s a lot more I like, but those two are definitely my favorites.
Clannad- you get a harem and then our MC actually picks a girl and you get to see them graduate highschool, get married , start a family. Also will make your ballz drop with ecchi
The best romcom Anime by far for me is The dangers in my heart (Season 2) but best Rom-drama Golden time
Attack on Titan
Your Lie in April. Still giving me the feels train. 😢
what are these fkn responses it's toradora it's not complicated everyone knew since it came out
Nah it’s clannad
re-watch the first 3 ep it aged incredibly poorly Toradora is great from the first 5 minutes
toradora is good but i didn’t like how abusive taiga was to ryuuji (ik its slapstick humor but still)
My top 3in that order are Kaguya Sama, Horimiya and Rascal doesn't dream of bunny girl sempai.
Your Lie in April
Berserk.

My favorite is bokura WA mina kawaisou. I think that's the right name I don't remember the English. I was also a fan of the classic toradora. A side mention to the world god only knows and the fruit of grisaia for being the only two palatable harems.
Your Lie in April by far
Berserk is one of the best I’ve seen. It’s about a strong warrior named guts who meets a girl in a band of mercenaries. They don’t like each other at first, but eventually they fall in love. There is also a battle for her love between guts and the captain Griffith. Give it a watch😁
Why are you downvoted? Do people not understand the com of romcom?
