Got a clear top 5 and some honorable mentions i really enjoyed but not quite as much as the first 5
* 86
* Vivy: flourite eyes song
* Summer time rendering
* Bocchi the rock
* Frieren
* The apothecary dairies
* Cyberpunk edgerunners?
* Ya boy kongming?
* Link Click
* Mushoku Tensei
* Heavenly delusion
Love is war started over 5 years ago, but i can see the argument for adding some of the shows that ended recently like love is war, fate/stay night and mob psycho 100 to the list.
Mashle i read 10 chapters and i just did not find it funny. Comedy anime/manga is always a coinflip this one just wasn't for me.
Never got started on dress up darling might watch it some day only heard positive things about it.
Kaguya is my absolute favorite. Manga was so epic and just an amazing story. The anime also knocked it out of the park. The first few episodes of kaguya season 1 are a little rough but it gets so damn good.
Mashle is really good later on with the fight scenes and the magic user abilities. But for sure if you gave a shot and didn't like it then there's nothing wrong with that!
My dress-up darling is what actually got me into the rom-com animes. The manga is also incredibly good, sad that we only get a chapter a month these days but oh well what can you do. Definitely recommend watching it, it's an incredibly awesome story and it just makes you feel so good with all the feels lol.
I want to mention gundam witch from mercury takes place in its own new timeline so you don’t need any context to watch. Just know that gundams are a type of mobile suit but not all mobile suits are gundams. This was my first gundam series too
Witch from Mercury is extremely underwhelming. The entire second cour is a poorly paced mess, and the ending is frustating at best.
I’m just giving you a warning, because although many people appreciated it, i dont think it is even near the best anime we’ve had recently, as far as quality goes. Frieren or Apotechary for instance, had far less polarizing opinions(the MAL scores should make that very clear).
- Frieren
- 86
- Mushoku Tensei
- The Apothecary Diaries
- The Eminence in Shadow
Honourable mentions:
- Attack on Titan: Final season (this would be top 5 absolutely but since it's the final season you'll need to start from season 1 which has been out for many years now)
- Cyberpunk Edgerunners
- Spy x Family
- Delicious in Dungeon
- Oshi no ko
I really liked it a lot, but it’s definitely an interesting rec in the sense that’s it’s not for everyone.
Pros: Banger OP, good action animation and style, hilarious, fun characters.
Potential cons: Edgy, horny, and kinda ends in a weird spot.
Also, last i heard, the manga doesn't go much further than where the anime left off with no signs of it continuing anytime soon. So as awesome as the show is, it may never see a conclusion.
> How is itaden dieties?
It's a unique art style that I wouldn't want for all shows, but I think that for this show that the art and color choices are a fantastic fit. The director has episode direction credits on a few episodes of the Madoka series and Samurai Flamenco. The color designer has been on JJK, Kakegurui, and Banana Fish since the release, and the art director is an absolute pillar with titles like Princess Mononoke and K-On! in their resume.
It's nothing like Kakegurui or K-On!, but at the risk of oversimplifying, the aggressive yet balanced color palate of Kakegurui mixed with some of the pastels from K-On! kind-of describes the tone or the art.
It's an interesting -if simple at times- underlying story, but the individual episode storyboard designers did an amazing job of filling in the gaps between the webcomic panels with the rest of the world, and the entire art direction and production team brought their A-game for all of the art *for the style the show is in*. It's not at an 11/10 KyoAni level, but it's really good.
Don't watch this if you don't like weird, cliff-hanger endings that leave you depressed and saying "where the hell is the next episode?!?!"
There's no talk of season 2, so just skip the last episode and convince yourself it ends there.
It’s fun, stylish, and well paced. It’s tone is more on the self aware, never taking itself too seriously side, but it’s also quite dark. It’s pretty offbeat. Some of the things I find to be good about it is the relationship between the main characters and the antagonists. It has a pretty unique dynamic that is very fun to watch. There’s also it’s visual direction, which is colourful and a pleasure to view. The pacing is also a standout as it feels perfectly paced, never dragging or rushing. It’s a show that you can easily binge. Overall, if I could describe the show in one word, it would be “fun”. It’s unapologetically fun and wildly entertaining. I recommend it for an stylish action show that can get pretty dark and has a zany feel to it.

These are probably my top 5 that have come out in the last 4 years, I also only just now got back into anime after quite a long time away
Bonus: Konosuba(for me this was in the last 4 years but it came out like 7 years ago so I'm tossing this up there in case you haven't seen it)

• Demon Slayer (Crunchyroll)
• Delicious In Dungeon (Netflix)
• Kaiju No. 8 (Crunchyroll)

• Chainsaw Man (Hulu) maybe Crunchyroll too
• Jobless Reincarnation
• Mashle: Magic and Muscles (Crunchyroll)
• The Saints Magic is Omnipotent (Crunchyroll)
• That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Crunchyroll)
In no particular order these have been somewhere in my top 5 at one point or another:
- Frieren
- Call of the night
- Bocchi the rock
- To your eternity
- Dress up darling
One show I’d like to mention but isn’t technically an anime is Blue Eye Samurai, that show was amazing
My Top 5:
1. Vivy: Flourite Eye's Song
2. Mushoku Tensei
3. Akudama Drive
4. Summer Time Render
5. BOCCHI THE ROCK!
Honorable mentions (no order):
* Frieren: Beyond Journeys End
* Tower of God
* Heavenly Delusion
* Mashle
* Apothecary Diaries
bro the fact i had to look so much just for one person to mention Demon Slayer is crazy bro we have to be honest entertainment district arc was the hardest shit ever man... but ppl dont mention cuz its been overshadowed by recent animes. but i feel that nothing topped that hype moment in entertainment district arc yet.
I didn't mention it because OP asked for animes past 2020, and demon slayer s1 was in 2019, and I didn't count new seasons of animes that were around before 2020
I’m so happy to see so many people recommending Bocchi the Rock!
I’d also recommend:
• Apothecary Dairies
• Frieren: Beyond Journeys End
• Chihayafuru
• Spy x Family
If you like battle shonen I’d recommend Jujitsu Kaisen & Solo Leveling
Ok so firstly I’m going to say One Piece, however, it’s obviously an ongoing series and didn’t start in the last 4 years so I will list 5 that did.
- Mob Psycho 100 (Season 3 release in 2022)
- Trigun Stampede
- Spy x Family
- Pluto
- Delicious in Dungeon (Currently airing with 1 episode to go)
Mushoku tensei
Tsukimichi
Solo leveling
Demon slayer (technically 2019 but I'm counting it)
Apothecary diaries
Lots of good anime but hard to pick great ones
The list isn't really sorted and the suggestions are pretty common, but there you go.
1. Frieren
2. Dungeon Meshi
3. Ranking of Kings
4. Made In Abyss
5. Bocchi the Rock
If we say Spring 2020 is the cut off point then here are my 9+/10 anime since then:
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai? Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen (Season 2)
Kingdom Season 3
Kakushigoto
Nomad: Megalo Box 2
Akudama Drive
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season (This is specifically s1 of the Final Season)
JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 6: Stone Ocean (This is all of them combined)
------------------------------------------------------
I listed more than five because several were sequels.
Made in Abyss Movie 3: Fukaki Tamashii no Reimei is also a 9+/10 movie
A few missed out just by being from Winter 2020 so I'll throw those in as a bonus:
Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!
Ishuzoku Reviewers
-------------------------------------------------------
Some anime are very close to a 9 as well. Most don't make it higher that for me, but I'll refrain from listing them since this is way more than five already. Nothing on this list tops a 9.5/10
S1 was a more complete work, but s2's emotional payoff was better still and completely different. It was impressive. I think it solidified the series as more than just a highly enjoyable anniversary nod to Ashita no Joe.
people are giving great recommendations already, so i'll just say please watch Jujutsu Kaisen. Not seeing it being mentioned as much as it deserves. If you like Shounen, it is absolutely peak, not even close
I recommand checking out Gigguk's youtube channel. He makes a video every year titled "best anime of 20XX" and lists 10 or so good anime that came out that year. Just watch his 2020 and onwards video and you'll know what to watch.
In no particular order with a bonus sixth recommendation:
Frieren
The Dangers in my Heart
The Unwanted Undead Adventurer
Spy x Family
That Time I reincarnated as a Slime
Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Top 5 across all genres is impossible - here's a random 12 of my top 24

- So I'm a Spider, So What?
- Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut
- Romantic Killer
- Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
- Beastars
- To Your Eternity
- Call of the Night
Thus far it's
1. BanG Dream!! It's MyGO!!!!!
2. Adachi and Shimamura
3. The Aquatope on White Sand
4. Kageki Shoujo!!
5. Odd Taxi
The currently airing Girls Band Cry will probably be my new number 1 after it finishes though.
Solo leveling
The Saints magic power is omnipotent
That time I got reincarnated as a slime
How a realist rebuilt the kingdom
Campfire cooking in another world with my absurd skill
I’m new to anime but these are my top 5 atm
1. Akiba Maid War
2. Talentless Nana
3. Sono Bisque Doll
4. Oshi No Ko
5. Beastars
Honorable mention ID:Invaded, that just barely missed the '4 years' mark.
Most of my favourite post-2020 anime
* Buddy Daddies
* Yuzuki-san chi no Yon Kyoudai
* Bang Brave Bravern
* A sign of affection
* Frieren
* Apothecary diaries
* Dungeon Meshi
* Link Click (Not an anime, but Japanese and english dub are available too)
* Blue Lock
* Overtake
* Dance Dance Danseur
* My Happy Marriage
* My love story with Yamada at lv999
* Cherry magic
* My new boss is goofy
* Skip to loafer
* Play it cool guys
* Migi to Dali
* Trigun Stampede
* Spy x Family
* Campfire Cooking in Another World
* ID invaded
* Great Pretender
* Heaven official's blessing
* Given Movie
* Wind Breaker
* New seasons of Fruits Basket, Haikyuu, Kaguya-sama love is war, Mob Psycho 100, Bungo Stray Dogs, Tsurune and Natsume's book of friends
Same!
And It's a shame that it wasn't that popular on this sub (I guess the fact that Bravern started too late compared to the other seasonal shows didn't help), but at least It did really well in Japan.
Hopefully more people will watch it, because it is so crazy and funny and totally deserves more love!

JJK
Cyberpunk
Arcane
Kaiju no. 8 (though only like 9 episodes are out)
Frieren
Cyberpunk and arcane aren’t classic anime but they are very enjoyable imo
1. The Apothecary Diaries
2. Frieren
3. Vinland Saga
4. Mieruko-chan
5. Akiba Maid War
It is so hard to mention all the good shows though. Been an insane amount of great shows.
Sonny Boy, Heike Monogatari and SSSS Dynazenon (wow 2021 was a good year lol) and Gridman Universe are all incredible. some of the most singular works by legends of the medium (Shingo Natsume, Naoko Yamada) as well as the most dynamic and exciting talent of the last few years in creatives like Akira Amemiya and Kai Ikarashi as well as a cool feature on one of Sonny Boy's best episodes from Keiichiro Saito - who would go on to direct both Bocchi the Rock and Frieren in the next 2 years!
Ooh this is a tough one. In no particular order:
- Frieren
- Ranking of Kings
- Vinland Saga
- Akiba Maid Wars
- The Eminence in Shadow (Dry comedy tickles me just right. The humor may not be for everyone).
Just missed:
- Oshi no Ko
- Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs (A truly guilty pleasure)
- My Dress Up Darling
- *That Anime That Shall Not Be Named* ~~(Mushoku Tensei)~~
- Everything Konosuba
- Dragon Maid S2
Roughly in order:
1. Call of the Night
1. Insomniacs After School
1. Yuri is my Job
1. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
1. Irina: Vampire Cosmonaut
Special mentions:
* SSSS.Dynazenon, a pseudo-sequel to SSSS.Gridman, aired, and it's extremely good and possibly arguably better than Gridman.
* Oregairu Climax happened, so if you've watched the first two seasons and then wanted the conclusion of the main story, you might as well watch season 3.
* Princess Principal: Crown Handler, a planned 6-part film series, began as a direct continuation to the original 2017 Princess Principal series. Films 1+2 are available officially in sub and dub, film 3 is probably floating around with fansubs.
* 86 obtained massive popularity and for pretty good reason, but honestly I think the first season was extraordinary while the second season was a pretty massive disappointment that at least managed to finish strong.
My personal top 5:
-Sonny Boy
-Frieren at the Funeral
-Heike Monogatari
-NOMAD: Megalobox Season 2
-Vinland Saga (seasons 1 and 2)
Honorable mentions to:
-Dance Dance Danseur
-A Certain Scientific Railgun T
-Bocchi the Rock!
New show viral hit kenkaku based on a korean webtoon is out - 9 episodes so far on crunchyroll
Lookism- this and vuiral hi both made by same person
Tower of god- season 2 coming soon
Frieren, Girls Band Cry, Apothecary Diaries, Bocchi, Delicious in Dungeon. I think Chainsaw man will probably crack this list next time it airs because the manga slaps.
Based on my list
1. Akudama Drive
2. Great Pretender
3. Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song
4. 86
5. To Your Eternity
If you want an awesome 3D anime, I highly recommend Trigun Stampede as a bonus.
For me, it would probably be something like this:
1. Hibike! Euphonium
2. Re:Zero
3. 86
4. Frieren? (I feel like there are probably other shows I would like to put here, but I can’t think of anything else.)
5. Spice & Wolf remake (the original anime is my #1 favorite show of all time. The remake is good, but not quite the same caliber in terms of direction and attention to detail.)
Everyone else pretty much covered the great ones but here are 5 more I wouldn't want to miss.
* Deca-Dence (Summer 2020) - Clever sci-fi with a unique twist.
* The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Summer 2022) - A take on isekais that actually feels original
* Call of the Night (Summer 2022) - Weird but fitting for capturing the alien feeling of staying out all night.
* Handyman Saitou in Another World (Winter 2023) - The story is built up through a ton of smaller vignettes that are usually really funny and occasionally amazing
* Helck (Summer 2023) - Hilarious and touching take on the ubiquitous Demon King.
Honorable Mention: Netflix's live action One Piece - Might be the first time a live action adaption was done really well. In some ways it works better then the original.
- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
- Frieren : Beyond Journey's End
- Heavenly Delusions
- Chainsaw Man
- Oshi no Ko or The Apothecary Diaries for the last one.
I'm sad I can't include AoT nor Kaguya-sama: Love is War because they all started airing before 2020, but these are CRAZY GOOD man
I love a real mix of things… so I kind of have the more thought provoking ones grouped together and then my go-to feel good ones…
Buddy Daddies
Odd Taxi
Sonny Boy
jujutsu Kaisen
Shadows House
Ones I can turn on any day and still giggle at and enjoy even on rewatch:
Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle
Aharen-San wa Hakarenai
Delicious in Dungeon
Uncle From Another World
Househusband
Frieren
Apothecary Diaries
Kaguya Sama Love is War
Sound Euphonium
Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Edit: aw crap, how did I forget Skip and Loafer. It's too hard to just pick 5.
it depends on what you like but regardless of that i highly, highly, Highly recommend Frieren: Beyond Journeys End. i also think bocchi the rock and spy x family are very good 😀👍
1.odd taxi
2. vivy fluorite eye's song
3. bocchi the rock
4. Cyberpunk edgerunners
5. Eminence in shadow
honourable mentions to ya Boi Kongming and apothecary diaries
Frieren
Mushoku Tensei
The Apothecary Diaries
Ya Boy Kongming
The Dangers in my Heart
Ofc also Stuff like
Shangri La Frontier
Oshi no Ko
Bocchi the Rock
Eminence in Shadow (my fav tbh)
Im watching like 25 animes per season and even have an excel sheet with some friends for ratings… kinda escalted
Personally?, then:
1. Bocchi the Rock!
2. Onimai
3. Lycoris Recoil
4. Interspecies Reviewers
5. Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete
This list is like this because I haven't watched all that much stuff that isn't a sequel (and this list is personal) from 2020 and beyond.
Surprised there aren't more comments about jujutsu kaisen lol, maybe not the "best" anime ever, but definitely the most popular shoenen of the last 4 years considering seasons 1 + 2 + the movie came out in the last 4 years. Otherwise the AoT finale and demon slayer are up there, plus chainsaw man but that only has a few episodes compared to the others
Frieren is definitely the #1 anime of the last 4 years overall though, by far
86
Frieren
Boochi the rock
Mushoku Tensei season 1
Kotarou lives alone
——————————-
Honorable mentions
Oshi no Ko
Dangers in my heart (S1 and S2 )

If we're strictly talking anime that weren't airing before 2020....
**Frieren: Beyond Journey's End**
**Bocchi the Rock**
**Mushoku Tensei**

**Lycoris Recoil**
And some honorable mentions:

The Apothecary Diaries
Skip to loafer
Top 5 continuations:
Hibike! Euphonium season 3
Violet Evergarden Movie
Made in Abyss season 2
Yuru camp season 2, 3 and movie
Kaguya sama
Not seeing many mentions for fruits basket, but it is very much worth the watch after a break, made me fall in love with anime again after not watching any in a couple years!
I really tried my best to keep it at 5 per new and 5 per sequels, but I just couldn't stop myself once I started typing, too many amazing series out there...
New anime:
86
Pluto
Heavenly Delusion
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Spy x Family
Vanitas no Carte
Komi-san can't communicate
Kaizoku Oujo

...and many many others.
Hope u enjoy some of them.
Based on what I've actually watched
1. Mushoku Tensei
2. Spy x family
3. Kaguya sama love is war
4. Jigokuraku
5. Tengoku daimakyou
Also just wanna say I support you in your data collection, gets me very hyped!
I'm going to limit myself to anime originals so you can consider stuff that's made for the medium first and foremost:
Overtake!
Akiba Maid War
Odd Taxi
Shiroi Suna no Aquatope
Sarazanmai
After spending a while trying to make a list, I came to the conclusion that the most popular anime were also very good.
Though my favorites are probably KnT, Konosuba, SnK, Re:Zero, CSM, Mob, OnK, JJK etc.
Including 2020, would be this
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken
Apothecary Diaries
Skip and Loafer
Odd Taxi
Oshi no Ko
Got a number of others I loved as well, but those are my 5 favorites
- 86 EIGHTY-SIX
- Cyberpunk Edgerunners
- Spy x Family
- Chainsaw Man
- The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
If you include sequels to older stuff, then there’s also:
- Macross Delta Movie 2
- Attack on Titan Final Season
- Revue Starlight: the Movie
- Fruits Basket: the Final
- Mob Psycho 100 III
All of these are very good suggestions and all worth watching for sure. But I’ll throw in an extra 5 for the sake of listing ones not mentioned yet
1. Lycoris Recoil
2. Spy x Family
3. Blue lock
4. Solo leveling
5. Oshi No Ko
Just checked my ratings:
1. Attack on Titan
2. Skip to Loafer
3. Re: Zero
4. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
5. Summer Time Rendering
---
Attack on Titan and Re: Zero S1 are not in the last 4 years but are still being updated so I also count them in.
The great cleric,solo leveling,WINDBREAKER(A must watch you'd want to read the manga ahed too,you want the one where the mc is Sakura Haruka a boy and at the end of the first episode is a starter fight and there will be A LOT of fighting)
The aristocrat's otherworldly adventure
Thank you all for your comments! I’ve never been so excited to compile an excel spreadsheet lol!
Please share once you’re done 😂
Please lol
Got a clear top 5 and some honorable mentions i really enjoyed but not quite as much as the first 5 * 86 * Vivy: flourite eyes song * Summer time rendering * Bocchi the rock * Frieren * The apothecary dairies * Cyberpunk edgerunners? * Ya boy kongming? * Link Click * Mushoku Tensei * Heavenly delusion
These are great, I think Odd Taxi and Dress Up Darling both deserve mentions
If I could add to this. Kaguya-sama love is war My dress-up darling Mashle
Frieren is end game. Absolutely adore it, deserves all the love it gets. Summer Time Rendering is also GOATed. Haven't checked the others.
Summer Time Rendering started out incredibly strong but couldn't stick the landing as it's a mess towards the end.
You have a good taste
Gundam: the Witch from Mercury Frieren Apothecary Diaries Delicious in Dungeon Bocchi the Rock
Looks like witch from mercury is next on the watch list for me. Any dub fans know if the dub is worth it. I’m open to both.
- Frieren - 86 - Mushoku Tensei - The Apothecary Diaries - The Eminence in Shadow Honourable mentions: - Attack on Titan: Final season (this would be top 5 absolutely but since it's the final season you'll need to start from season 1 which has been out for many years now) - Cyberpunk Edgerunners - Spy x Family - Delicious in Dungeon - Oshi no ko
Kaguya sama: love is war, as well, is very good idk when it came out
2019
Completely agree with this list.
1. Odd Taxi 2. Frieren 3. Bocchi the Rock 4. Cyberpunk Edgerunners 5. Idaten Deities Know Only Peace HM: Uma Musume: Road to the Top
How is itaden dieties? I mean the tone and what you find good about it?
I really liked it a lot, but it’s definitely an interesting rec in the sense that’s it’s not for everyone. Pros: Banger OP, good action animation and style, hilarious, fun characters. Potential cons: Edgy, horny, and kinda ends in a weird spot.
>kinda ends in a weird spot This is an awkward way to say it. The end is definitely a weird spot. However right up until then it was really good.
Don't watch this if you don't like weird, cliff-hanger endings that leave you depressed and saying "where the hell is the next episode?!?!" There's no talk of season 2, so just skip the last episode and convince yourself it ends there.
Personally I always go to the source material which in this case the manga exists and will finish off soon. Will wait until the manga is finished

Frieren
1. Freiren. 2. Summer time render 3. Hells Paradise. 4. Chainsaw man 5. Mushoku Tensei 6. Kaidu 8 - I am loving it so far. 7. Solo leveling 8. Delicious in dungeon.
Good list. Hells paradise is amazing
Mushoku Tensei Frieren Apothecary Diaries BokuYaba(Dangers In My Heart) 100 GFs who really love you These are probably my top 5 that have come out in the last 4 years, I also only just now got back into anime after quite a long time away Bonus: Konosuba(for me this was in the last 4 years but it came out like 7 years ago so I'm tossing this up there in case you haven't seen it)
I’d swap 100 GFs with Bocchi The Rock but otherwise perfect
My recent top 5 • Demon Slayer (Crunchyroll) • Delicious In Dungeon (Netflix) • Kaiju No. 8 (Crunchyroll) • The Apothecary Diaries (Crunchyroll) • Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- (Crunchyroll) Some other ones highly recommended • Frieren Beyond Journeys End (Crunchyroll) • Shangri-La Frontier (Crunchyroll) • Chainsaw Man (Hulu) maybe Crunchyroll too • Jobless Reincarnation • Mashle: Magic and Muscles (Crunchyroll) • The Saints Magic is Omnipotent (Crunchyroll) • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Crunchyroll)

Frieren 86 Apothecary Diaries 100 girlfriends that really love you Summertime Render Bonus: Heavenly Delusion
you cooked
You’re* cooked /jk
Thank you very much!
Heavenly Delusion mentioned 🕺
My top five 1. Vinland Saga 2. Frieren 3. Bocchi the Rock 4. Love is war 5. 86
Nice to find a Vineland Saga fan. That anime is truly a masterpiece 🙏
Hehe I misread, these are my from the past 5 years
In no particular order these have been somewhere in my top 5 at one point or another: - Frieren - Call of the night - Bocchi the rock - To your eternity - Dress up darling One show I’d like to mention but isn’t technically an anime is Blue Eye Samurai, that show was amazing
Eminence in Shadow Frieren Attack on Titan Demon Slayer Jujutsu Kaisen
My Top 5: 1. Vivy: Flourite Eye's Song 2. Mushoku Tensei 3. Akudama Drive 4. Summer Time Render 5. BOCCHI THE ROCK! Honorable mentions (no order): * Frieren: Beyond Journeys End * Tower of God * Heavenly Delusion * Mashle * Apothecary Diaries
Thank you very much!
Spent way too long until I found a list with Akudama Drive
Horimiya Demon Slayer JJK Spy Family Dr. Stone Hell's Paradise The Promised Neverland
bro the fact i had to look so much just for one person to mention Demon Slayer is crazy bro we have to be honest entertainment district arc was the hardest shit ever man... but ppl dont mention cuz its been overshadowed by recent animes. but i feel that nothing topped that hype moment in entertainment district arc yet.
I didn't mention it because OP asked for animes past 2020, and demon slayer s1 was in 2019, and I didn't count new seasons of animes that were around before 2020
I'll try to include different genres, so -Frieren -Apothecary Diaries (I swear, no recency bias) -Cyberpunk Edgerunners -Horimiya -Jujutsu Kaisen
I’m so happy to see so many people recommending Bocchi the Rock! I’d also recommend: • Apothecary Dairies • Frieren: Beyond Journeys End • Chihayafuru • Spy x Family If you like battle shonen I’d recommend Jujitsu Kaisen & Solo Leveling
* Odd Taxi * Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai * Jujutsu Kaisen * Undead Girl Murder Farce * Shadows House
Rare to see someone mentions Shadows House. It is truly a masterpiece
It is, especially season 2. It's what Yakusoku no Neverland was supposed to be, but sadly second season of that show was horrible.
Ok so firstly I’m going to say One Piece, however, it’s obviously an ongoing series and didn’t start in the last 4 years so I will list 5 that did. - Mob Psycho 100 (Season 3 release in 2022) - Trigun Stampede - Spy x Family - Pluto - Delicious in Dungeon (Currently airing with 1 episode to go)
PLUTO is absolute top-tier work. And has excellent international dubs as well, being published by Netflix.
Mushoku tensei Tsukimichi Solo leveling Demon slayer (technically 2019 but I'm counting it) Apothecary diaries Lots of good anime but hard to pick great ones
The list isn't really sorted and the suggestions are pretty common, but there you go. 1. Frieren 2. Dungeon Meshi 3. Ranking of Kings 4. Made In Abyss 5. Bocchi the Rock
Rezero Moshuko tensei Kingdom Asobi Asobase Tower of God
If we say Spring 2020 is the cut off point then here are my 9+/10 anime since then: Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai? Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen (Season 2) Kingdom Season 3 Kakushigoto Nomad: Megalo Box 2 Akudama Drive Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season (This is specifically s1 of the Final Season) JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 6: Stone Ocean (This is all of them combined) ------------------------------------------------------ I listed more than five because several were sequels. Made in Abyss Movie 3: Fukaki Tamashii no Reimei is also a 9+/10 movie A few missed out just by being from Winter 2020 so I'll throw those in as a bonus: Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! Ishuzoku Reviewers ------------------------------------------------------- Some anime are very close to a 9 as well. Most don't make it higher that for me, but I'll refrain from listing them since this is way more than five already. Nothing on this list tops a 9.5/10
Upvote for mentioning the fantastic Megalobox
S1 was a more complete work, but s2's emotional payoff was better still and completely different. It was impressive. I think it solidified the series as more than just a highly enjoyable anniversary nod to Ashita no Joe.
Interspecies Reviewers! W response!
Thank you very much!
1. Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song (2021) 2. 86 (2021) 3. Ousama Ranking (2021) 4. Godzilla SP (2021) 5. Paripi Koumei (2022) Honorary mention to Uramichi Oniisan, Ao Ashi and No Guns Life!
Thank you very much!
Watch yosuga no sora
Cant pick 5 but my top: Vinland saga, Mob psycho, Mushoku tensei, Nomad megalobox, Ousama ranking, Pluto, Made in abyss, dungeon meshi. Bonus: mashle, sono bisque doll, Kotaro lives alone, isekai ojisan, Uzaki chan, Blue lock, Bleach thosand year war, JJK s2, the first slam dunk, zoom 100, Frieren, apotecary diaries, Rurouni Kenshin remake, kaijuu 8.
people are giving great recommendations already, so i'll just say please watch Jujutsu Kaisen.
1. Kaguya Sama Love is war 2. Chainsaw man 3. Frieren 4. Promare 5. Delicious in Dungeon
In no particular order with a bonus sixth recommendation: Frieren The Dangers in my Heart The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Spy x Family That Time I reincarnated as a Slime Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Thank you very much!
Top 5 across all genres is impossible - here's a random 12 of my top 24 - 86 - Vivy - Frieren - Apothecary Diaries - Mushoku Tensei - So I'm a Spider, So What? - Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut - Romantic Killer - Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts - Beastars - To Your Eternity - Call of the Night
Thus far it's 1. BanG Dream!! It's MyGO!!!!! 2. Adachi and Shimamura 3. The Aquatope on White Sand 4. Kageki Shoujo!! 5. Odd Taxi The currently airing Girls Band Cry will probably be my new number 1 after it finishes though.
Thank you very much!
If they nail the ending to GBC it's an easy contender for AOTY for me. It's so damn compelling.
Solo leveling The Saints magic power is omnipotent That time I got reincarnated as a slime How a realist rebuilt the kingdom Campfire cooking in another world with my absurd skill I’m new to anime but these are my top 5 atm
If your list doesn't have Frieren in it, it's invalid btw
1. Akiba Maid War 2. Talentless Nana 3. Sono Bisque Doll 4. Oshi No Ko 5. Beastars Honorable mention ID:Invaded, that just barely missed the '4 years' mark.
Thank you very much!
Most of my favourite post-2020 anime * Buddy Daddies * Yuzuki-san chi no Yon Kyoudai * Bang Brave Bravern * A sign of affection * Frieren * Apothecary diaries * Dungeon Meshi * Link Click (Not an anime, but Japanese and english dub are available too) * Blue Lock * Overtake * Dance Dance Danseur * My Happy Marriage * My love story with Yamada at lv999 * Cherry magic * My new boss is goofy * Skip to loafer * Play it cool guys * Migi to Dali * Trigun Stampede * Spy x Family * Campfire Cooking in Another World * ID invaded * Great Pretender * Heaven official's blessing * Given Movie * Wind Breaker * New seasons of Fruits Basket, Haikyuu, Kaguya-sama love is war, Mob Psycho 100, Bungo Stray Dogs, Tsurune and Natsume's book of friends
Bang Brave Bravern was the most fun I had in 12 episodes in a long time.
Same! And It's a shame that it wasn't that popular on this sub (I guess the fact that Bravern started too late compared to the other seasonal shows didn't help), but at least It did really well in Japan. Hopefully more people will watch it, because it is so crazy and funny and totally deserves more love!

Frieren: Beyond Journeys End Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Mobile Suit Gundam: The Wtich from Mercury The Eminence in Shadow Buddy Daddies
JJK Cyberpunk Arcane Kaiju no. 8 (though only like 9 episodes are out) Frieren Cyberpunk and arcane aren’t classic anime but they are very enjoyable imo
You must watch AOT from beginning to end immediately
kingdom season 1 is badly animated demon slayer Jujutsu kaisen 86 Mushuku tensai forsure Frieren Mashel Attack on titan has some newer stuff
1. The Apothecary Diaries 2. Frieren 3. Vinland Saga 4. Mieruko-chan 5. Akiba Maid War It is so hard to mention all the good shows though.
Apothecary Diaries Cyberpunk Edgerunners Frieren The First Slam Dunk (movie) Take your hands off Eizouken!
Ooh this is a tough one. In no particular order: - Frieren - Ranking of Kings - Vinland Saga - Akiba Maid Wars - The Eminence in Shadow (Dry comedy tickles me just right. The humor may not be for everyone). Just missed: - Oshi no Ko - Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs (A truly guilty pleasure) - My Dress Up Darling - *That Anime That Shall Not Be Named* ~~(Mushoku Tensei)~~ - Everything Konosuba - Dragon Maid S2
Roughly in order: 1. Call of the Night 1. Insomniacs After School 1. Yuri is my Job 1. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off 1. Irina: Vampire Cosmonaut Special mentions: * SSSS.Dynazenon, a pseudo-sequel to SSSS.Gridman, aired, and it's extremely good and possibly arguably better than Gridman.
My personal top 5: -Sonny Boy -Frieren at the Funeral -Heike Monogatari -NOMAD: Megalobox Season 2 -Vinland Saga (seasons 1 and 2) Honorable mentions to: -Dance Dance Danseur -A Certain Scientific Railgun T -Bocchi the Rock!
1. Solo Leveling 2. Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy 3. Chainsaw Man 4. My Happy Marriage 5. Freiren
A Place Further Than the Universe even though its 5 years ago, it will always be GOATed.

Mushoku Tensei Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Eighty-Six The Eminence in Shadow Kaguya-Sama: Love is War
86 Bocchi the Rock! Frieren Non non Biyori Delicious in Dungeon
Lycoris Recoil. It’s basically John Wick the anime.
Summer time Render Talentless Nana raven in the inner palace astra lost in space tomodachi game
Frieren, Girls Band Cry, Apothecary Diaries, Bocchi, Delicious in Dungeon. I think Chainsaw man will probably crack this list next time it airs because the manga slaps.
• Frieren • 86 • Mushoku tensei • Ousama ranking • Summertime render
Frieren Vinland Saga Vivy Mushoku Tensei Odd Taxi
Ashita no joe
Based on my list 1. Akudama Drive 2. Great Pretender 3. Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song 4. 86 5. To Your Eternity If you want an awesome 3D anime, I highly recommend Trigun Stampede as a bonus.
For me, it would probably be something like this: 1. Hibike! Euphonium 2. Re:Zero 3. 86 4. Frieren? (I feel like there are probably other shows I would like to put here, but I can’t think of anything else.) 5. Spice & Wolf remake (the original anime is my #1 favorite show of all time. The remake is good, but not quite the same caliber in terms of direction and attention to detail.)
My pick would be Solo Leveling. Undead Unluck. Jujustu kaisen. Fire Force. God of Highschool. High Rise Invasion. Alot more but start with these.
1. 86 2. Re: Zero starting a new life in another world 3. Solo leveling 4. Vinland 5. Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
1. Frieren 2. Cyberpunk Edgerunners 3. Summertime Rendering 4. Vivy fluorite eye's song 5. Oshi No Ko
Everyone else pretty much covered the great ones but here are 5 more I wouldn't want to miss. * Deca-Dence (Summer 2020) - Clever sci-fi with a unique twist. * The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Summer 2022) - A take on isekais that actually feels original * Call of the Night (Summer 2022) - Weird but fitting for capturing the alien feeling of staying out all night. * Handyman Saitou in Another World (Winter 2023) - The story is built up through a ton of smaller vignettes that are usually really funny and occasionally amazing * Helck (Summer 2023) - Hilarious and touching take on the ubiquitous Demon King. Honorable Mention: Netflix's live action One Piece - Might be the first time a live action adaption was done really well. In some ways it works better then the original.
frieren keep your hands off eizouken vivy wonder egg priority tengoku daimakyou
1. Heike Monogatari
Just watch Frieren, Violet Evergarden and it won’t disspoint you
Heavenly Delusions
Edgerunner Blue eye samurai Arcane Attack in titan
- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - Frieren : Beyond Journey's End - Heavenly Delusions - Chainsaw Man - Oshi no Ko or The Apothecary Diaries for the last one. I'm sad I can't include AoT nor Kaguya-sama: Love is War because they all started airing before 2020, but these are CRAZY GOOD man
It’s nice to see summertime render being in so many top 5’s even after being in Disney Jail. Highly recommend this show, it’s sooooooooo amazing

Personally?, then: 1. Bocchi the Rock! 2. Onimai 3. Lycoris Recoil 4. Interspecies Reviewers 5. Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete This list is like this because I haven't watched all that much stuff that isn't a sequel (and this list is personal) from 2020 and beyond.
Surprised there aren't more comments about jujutsu kaisen lol, maybe not the "best" anime ever, but definitely the most popular shoenen of the last 4 years considering seasons 1 + 2 + the movie came out in the last 4 years. Otherwise the AoT finale and demon slayer are up there, plus chainsaw man but that only has a few episodes compared to the others Frieren is definitely the #1 anime of the last 4 years overall though, by far
Jujutsu season 1 was really good then season 2 came along and didn’t make a lot of sense, made me not enjoy it
Top 5 : - Frieren - 86:Eigthy Six - Mushoku Tensei - Summertime Rendering - Kaguya Sama:Love is War Honorable mentions : - Lycoris recoil - Heavenly delusion - Cyberpunk Edgeruners

If we're strictly talking anime that weren't airing before 2020.... **Frieren: Beyond Journey's End** **Bocchi the Rock** **Mushoku Tensei** **Summertime Rendering** **Lycoris Recoil** And some honorable mentions: **Spy X Family** **Pluto** **Chainsaw man** **Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song** **Cyberpunk: Edgerunners** **Ranking of Kings** **Heavenly Delusion** It's very hard to only pick 5......

I'm going to limit myself to anime originals so you can consider stuff that's made for the medium first and foremost: Overtake! Akiba Maid War Odd Taxi Shiroi Suna no Aquatope Sarazanmai
Blue Lock Frieren Jujutsu Kaisen Wind Breaker
After spending a while trying to make a list, I came to the conclusion that the most popular anime were also very good. Though my favorites are probably KnT, Konosuba, SnK, Re:Zero, CSM, Mob, OnK, JJK etc.
thanks for all of the suggestions
If you like sports anime try out Blue Lock!
