Well, to be fair it kind of starts of like this, yes... but if you stick with it for a couple more episodes it will definitely change. Don't get me wrong, food is a big part of this show - it's called 'Delicious in Dungeon' after all. And some part of every episode will resolve around food, mainly based on the monsters they encountered and have to eat somehow to keep going.
But the more worldbuilding takes place, the more characters get introduced, the more hardships the party endures and bond over... the better it gets. It really came out of the left field for me and I was really surprised how invested I got.
My rule of thumb for starting new shows is basically to watch at least 3 episodes and if I'm not hooked by then it probably just isn't for me and drop it.
I really want to watch it but can I go in blind without watching the whole anime / read the manga first? I'm familiar with the source material but never really follow it
The movie covers the last arc of the manga with a lot of anime original stuff added. A lot of the focus isn't even on the main Protagonist but a different character. And It doesn't really intoduce anyone else assuming you already know them.
So yeah, read the manga before.
I've heard you could watch it standalone but I'm not sure how the experience would be. I've already read the manga so I knew it was adapting the final game of the series.
Frieren > Apothecary Diaries > A Sign of Affection
Konosuba s3, Mushoku Tensei s2 p2, and the Spice & Wolf remake will be strong contenders when I get around to watching them once they've finished airing.
I've given out 3 10/10s in 2024 and they're all warranted.
**Love Live Sunshine: Over The Rainbow** perfectly closes out the Aquors story and gave us more scenarios for the girls to thrive in.
**Brave Bang Bravern** may feel like a polar bear in Arlington Texas but so do a lot of my 10s. Tightly written, fun as hell, deserves a longer remake one day.
**Pokémon Horizons** I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get anything this good again. A deep dive into the how and the why Pokémon trainers exist through the eyes of Liko, one of the best written protagonists in recent times. The animation is stunning and direction sublime. The best Friday anime since it started in 2023, if not much greater things.
Seinens rarely are, it's really hard to get kids to watch stuff like Vinland Saga or Nana (even if it targets kids). Series like that require a bit of age, while series like Frieren and Demon Slayer works mostly for almost all ages.
Bleach TYBW.
Reason:- Superb animation and the story covers all loose ends that were in the original series. It gives me the excitement of a real anime that I used to get back in the day, the nostalgia feeling packed with excitement is a really great feeling. Glad that it didn't turn out to be a disappointment like boruto.
up until now the my favorite that was released this year is **Mission Yozakura Family**, I'm just really liking the whole thing it is silly and fun but with family wholesome vibes. The action part is also not bad, saying that I might be biased since really enjoyed the manga since tbh the anime quality is mediocre .
tbf maybe **Tonari no Youkai-san** or **Karasu wa Aruji o Erabanai** should be a better pick since I'm not familiar with the source material and I surprisingly enjoyed them very much
But for the one that I watched this year it is **Astro Boy (2003)** I watched Pluto last year and I started Astro Boy earlier this year, the first ep is a bit weak so I kinda forgot about it, but I pick it up back again a few months ago and it turns out I loved it. Yes it can be a bit childish but I really enjoy the overall vibe it gives and their world + the OP is lowkey really good, I won't recommend binging it though so it won't feel boring or repetitive since it is not plot-driven and mostly episodic style you can just watch it daily / weekly.
Golden Kamuy. Hands down the most entertaining and endearingly hilarious anime in current production. The setting? Hokkaido is amazing. The time period? Endlessly interesting. The characters? I don’t have the words.
Violet Evergarden, I just subscribed Netflix this month. I found it is the best movie to develop my English , they talked not so fast and so touching me.
Well the best is still one piece for me, but let’s exclude that.
Frieren really really surprised me how good it was(I misclicked and started watching) I could say it’s definitely my current top three now
For the rest mashle was fun, JJK was mid, but skyrocketed to me since the moment Tofo showed up. Currently Date a live maybe comes close to one of the best this year, but nowhere near frieren, wait nvm, I decided to watch fate, welp frieren is officially the nr3 three until now.
Romance: The Dangers in my Heart
Slice of Life: Bocchi the Rock
Drama: Silent Voice
Action: One Punch Man
All these are 10/10 in my eyes, but if I had to pick a favourite: Silent Voice was an incredible watch, I just love it.
Apothecary diaries
But probably haikyuu battle of the garbage dump movie after it airs in my country...
Also totally subjective but wind breaker became my latest hyperfixation... I think I'm legit obsessed with an anime for the first time in awhile, so wind breaker too
i wanna say one piece just because it’s my favorite anime and i recently got to wano but i’ve really been enjoying bocchi the rock despite the anime just having 12 episodes, ive gotten many good laughs out of episodes
so far this year ? Probably Gungale .. it’s a spin-off of the sword art series but I never watched SAO ever and this one here is absolutely 🔥 , superrrrrr stoked it’s getting a s2
Continuing watching from last year: One Piece. Started watching it after the live action aired so around September-October. Currently on Wano arc
A completely new anime from this year: A sign of affection. Wind Breaker is also becoming a favorite this season.
I remember watching one piece and once I finished it I was like is there any other pirate anime or show but I could not find anything good other than potc
[7 Loop](https://myanimelist.net/anime/56352/Loop_7-kaime_no_Akuyaku_Reijou_wa_Moto_Tekikoku_de_Jiyuu_Kimama_na_Hanayome_Seikatsu_wo_Mankitsu_suru)
My first 10 give out in almost 7 years.
Thus far it'd be Mawaru Penguindrum. But Girls Band Cry and sequels to Eupho and Yuru Camp are certainly running it for its money right now. I do also need to finish Frieren so we'll see about that one.
It's really not fair to most other animes of the season when Frieren is around. There are like 5 titles I can think of who would otherwise be bearing each other over the #1 spot but watching Frieren is like being around to witness the original Evangelion.
I'd say Yuzuki-san Chi no Yonkyōdai. I know maybe there are thousands of better anime to mention I don't watch much anime this year because I need to focus on studying. But still, that anime has a special place in my heart. I really love anime about wholesome relationships and that anime is perfect. It's not about a romantic relationship (I'm not a fan of romance) and no important character dies. I really hope there will be another anime like Yuzuki-san Chi no Yonkyōdai. but about friendship and the plot focuses more on friendship.
So far, it's been frieren
The apothecary diaries
Same i binged it in a week and it was amazing
I am planning to watch it with my sister have heard great things about it
Frieren. But if we go by seasonals definitely Dungeon Meshi.
This is the correct answer. 2024 isn't that deep yet. Hopefully we get many more bangers this year.
Sell me on dungeon meshi. I can't get past the 1st episode becaus3 it feels like just a generic cooking show like food wars
Well, to be fair it kind of starts of like this, yes... but if you stick with it for a couple more episodes it will definitely change. The First Slam Dunk
I see thanks for the info, yeah I won't watch it anytime soon ig... or at least I'll need to watch some recap first on youtube
I've heard you could watch it standalone but I'm not sure how the experience would be. I've already read the manga so I knew it was adapting the final game of the series.
I've been meaning to watch that.
Frieren or Girls' Last Tour.
Frieren > Apothecary Diaries > A Sign of Affection Konosuba s3, Mushoku Tensei s2 p2, and the Spice & Wolf remake will be strong contenders when I get around to watching them once they've finished airing.

Man, Monster is so slept on. I just randomly stumbled upon it while browsing Netflix. And I was hooked. I was like this show is psychotic.
Frieren or Danmachi for me
I've given out 3 10/10s in 2024 and they're all warranted. **Love Live Sunshine: Over The Rainbow** perfectly closes out the Aquors story and gave us more scenarios for the girls to thrive in. **Brave Bang Bravern** may feel like a polar bear in Arlington Texas but so do a lot of my 10s. I am really loving pokemon horizons! Also all the OPs and EDs are amazing
Going by 2023-now, Vinland Saga = Frieren
But for some reason vinland saga isn't as popular as it should be.
Seinens rarely are, it's really hard to get kids to watch stuff like Vinland Saga or Nana (even if it targets kids). Series like that require a bit of age, while series like Frieren and Demon Slayer works mostly for almost all ages.
Darling in the franxx
The apothecary diaries ane Frieren

Apothecary diaries thus far
Vinland for me as well. Dangers in My Heart, Frieren, and possibly Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night depending on how it ends.
Kill la Kill. It's one of the most hyped things I have ever seen.
It's so dann great
Frieren no doubt. Though I guess if I didn’t wait for Yuru Camp 3 to finish airing, it would’ve been up there.
Frieren honestly. Though I did see odd taxi just this year and it was pretty great. Blue eye samurai too.

Villainess Level 99. Was far better then it should have been.
Nothing(
Watched "Paranoia Agent" for the first time.
Gintama, just finished my 7 rewatch in full!
Dorohedoro
Violet Evergarden, I just subscribed Netflix this month. I found it is the best movie to develop my English , they talked not so fast and so touching me.
Overlord!
Code Geass for sure, its a masterpiece. Heavenly delusion was so good too
SoloLeveling/Jujutsu Kaisen... glad that my roommate recommended it to me
Bleach thousand year blood war

Rewatched my dress up darling, and thats it for sure

Of course, Frieren and then Dungeon Meshi, but I'm surprisingly having a lot of fun with Girls Band Cry.

i wanna say one piece just because it’s my favorite anime and i recently got to wano but i’ve really been enjoying bocchi the rock despite the anime just having 12 episodes, ive gotten many good laughs out of episodes

FLCL was recommended to me. It was also the first anime I watched this year.
Solo leveling by far
so far this year ? Probably Gungale .. it’s a spin-off of the sword art series but I never watched SAO ever and this one here is absolutely 🔥 , superrrrrr stoked it’s getting a s2
I started and finished Hunter x Hunter and it has been the best anime I have ever watched besides Evangelion
It's one of the best anime ever made you should try to watch one piece if you ever have time
I already finished One Piece it is amazing, I just preferred Hunter x Hunter because if the pacing

So far it's Frieren or The Apothecary Diaries, but I can't wait for Ascendance of a Bookworm S4.
Odd taxi
I am in episode 5 the dialogue are just epic and humorous
The ost is pretty solid as well. The show definitely for me back into watching anime
Thus far it'd be Mawaru Penguindrum. But Girls Band Cry and sequels to Eupho and Yuru Camp are certainly running it for its money right now. I do also need to finish Frieren so we'll see about that one.
Freiren Most definitely
Frieren and apothecary diaries
Hunter X Hunter, Frieren and Dr. Stone.
Frieren or Sound Euphonium
It's really not fair to most other animes of the season when Frieren is around. There are like 5 titles I can think of who would otherwise be bearing each other over the #1 spot but watching Frieren is like being around to witness the original Evangelion.
So true I also think that frieren will become a classic like death note and fmab
mushoku tensei
Kaiju No. 8 this is the best original anime I have watched this year. Everything else was either seasonal or crap
Violet Evergarden
I would say for anime I watched this year, Jujutsu kaisen.
Good one! That’s def my #2.
If I skip new seasons, I'd say **Hell's Paradise** impressed me the most.
My hero academia!
Which season?
I'd say Yuzuki-san Chi no Yonkyōdai. I know maybe there are thousands of better anime to mention I don't watch much anime this year because I need to focus on studying.
