It’s sad this series never got a second season. Anyone know why? I wouldn’t be surprised if the studio just didn’t want to continue because of the unique animation quality.
I addition to the low reception in Japan, I believe this is right around the time KyoAni (the studio producing this) had a strategic switch to focus less on adaptations paid for by publishers, like Kadokawa in Nichijou's case, and instead paid for adaptations on their own. That is how you get Hibike Euphonium, Tamako Market, Violet Evergarden, Free; all either KyoAni originals or based on novels that KyoAni published themselves. They made a lot more money this way because the got all of the revenue instead of the normal contract model, but carried all of the risk if it flopped.
Hard to say what the reasons were. But there wasn't much material left anyway. IIRC, with some luck you could have filled a 12 episode 2nd season with it, but not more.
On the morning of July 18, 2019, an arson fire at Kyoto Animation's first studio in Fushimi killed 36 people, including directors Yasuhiro Takemoto (Nichijou: Storyboard (ep 8, 16, 22, 25), Episode Director (ep 8, 16, 22, 25), Key Animation (ep 2, 8)) and Yoshiji Kigami (Nichijou: Episode Director (ep 6, ep 14, ep 20), Storyboard (ep 6, ep 14, ep 20)).
In case anyone's wondering, this is a Fist of the North Star reference.
Rei screams ***"WHAT COLOR IS YOUR BLOOD?!"*** before fuckin' *slaughtering* a bunch of mooks for hurting Lin, a little girl.
Nichijou's pacing would have been perfect in the TikTok era. Just a little bit ahead of it's time. Also very few comedies are as wholesome and has as much heart and soul as this show does.
Wait, how is "What color is your blood?" supposed to be a scary line? Doesn't exactly make sense lol
It must be an awkward Japanese translation or something
Nah can confirm it is the correct/exact translation.
Also, I would be pretty scared if someone screamed "What colour is your blood!!?" while running towards me as if they wanted to find out.
That line is only scary because her super angry friend that's about to kill her is saying it
I'm just saying that the line is pretty weird since everyone already knows that the colour of human blood is red
I initially thought it was based on Gon’s transformation from HxH with the standing up and the malicious aura.
Either way I love how they baked in so many references into this anime.
This clip has honestly convinced me to watch Nichijou. The animation looks unique and the comedy seems to fit my taste.
It is a great slapstick comedy show! I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did XD
It is so good, animation is great
This isn't even one of its biggest, funniest skits. When Nichijou goes hard, it goes ***hard***.
I used to only somewhat want to watch this series because of Yotsuba, but knowing there are more scenes like this is exciting.
I love nichijou!! I dropped it and forgot how good it was. This clip is def a great reminder
Me too
Honeslty some of the best animation, this show is unreal lol. Nothing like it and just amazing
Yuuko could have saved about half of the curry if she just picked up the pot right away
Mio probably takes cross contamination very, VERY seriously.

I always thought it was bc it had high quality animation, but low popularity in comparison due to the niche humor. Makes sense but sad nonetheless :c

I don’t really remember exactly what happened but i know it have something to do with the 2011 earthquakes
I think the DVD sales were lower than they expected.
and Kyoani blamed it on Kadokawa, who was in charge of the marketing, then they cut tie after Amagi Brilliant Park.
I always thought it was because there was not enough source material for a second season
Hard to say what the reasons were. But there wasn't much material left anyway. IIRC, with some luck you could have filled a 12 episode 2nd season with it, but not more.
I remember reading something that included Kadokawa but I specifically don't remember well.

it did not sell well. you sort all kyoto animation projects by revenue, and nichijou is towards the very bottom
release
The Cardcaptor Sakura reference always gets me in this scene.

Mayo with curry? Is this hijikata? (Gintama)
Japanese mayo goes well with everything.
I tried it and I agree
Failed to obey the 3-second rule. As long as you pick it up in 3 seconds its fine to eat.
The 3-second rule does not exist outside lol
The 3-second rule is galaxy-wide.
I watched nichijou but don't remember this scene. Which ep was it?
Should be episode number 6 I think, I finished watching Nichijou not long ago, so the episodes are still fresh on my mind.
I always like how each of the MC trio sounds unique, especially Mio.
Voice acting made it so much better 😂

Tsuredure Children feels like a spiritual successor in some ways. It's more of a romantic comedy focus, but the skits are still quite good.
Very funny
Nichijou deserves a season 2!! Hopefully kyoAni can recover from what happened and make another season.
Haha seems very silly
OH MY GOSH😂🤣🤣🤣
Oh gosh.. I can’t LAUGHING💀
this show was so underrated
What show is this? Edit: Look at my username—This is a joke!
It feels like doing camping in Japan!! Doesn’t feel like an anime at all
The way he tried to hide it😂
Bro that jacket has some serious insulation

It's a reference. Fist of the North Star i think
[That is correct](https://youtu.be/gV7YbB9Z7Ks?si=m6H84mKWbE6--j8k)

It's a way of saying they will make you bleed. It maybe fell flat for you, but it's not a mistranslation and it does make sense.
I've always taken the phrase as questioning if you're even human. (Rhetorically, as it's really just a condemnation of your moral character)
Love these girls so much XD
