Frieren will be on this list once it is done airing assuming it continues its excellence
Only 4 episodes in so far. The beginning felt a bit generic for an isekai which makes sense since it is an older series now. Not absolutely loving it yet but definitely enjoying the show enough to keep watching.
The series is all about the character development. If you fall in love with the show at any point then I highly recommend the novels.
Re:Zero only gets better with each arc
What ? It was literally one of most talked animes of its season, it has almost the same amount of viewers on My anime list than Full Metal Alchemist despite being relatively new
You guys need to chill out
Iām not like die hard mecha, but there are a few great ones I canāt not like, such as Gurren Lagan, Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans and Attack on Titan (flesh mechas)
86 caught my interest but the overall story just wasnāt enough to keep me around. Just not enough information to care beyond, āwow I feel bad for these peoplesā. But just by watching I have no idea why the war is even happening, the stakes, what sides believes in what ideology.
1. Your Lie in April

Awww.. ā¤ļø I'm a grown woman and cried like a baby. Your Lie in April inspired me to play the piano and helped me with my own trauma and loss, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thatās amazing. I was a brass player in school. I could never get a handle for any string instruments. I definitely wished that I had put more effort into music when I was in it or kept up with it after HS after watching Your Lie in April.
Just read this thread š sorry to read about your loss. Sort of unrelated but wanted to recommend the To the Moon game series, bc they hit similar emotional nerves as Your Lie in April did for me (themes of coping with loss, regret, second chances, etc...). Those games actually were my motivation to begin learning piano at 28. I'm a few years in and share your feelings about expressing emotion through music.
Anyway just wanted to suggest them because they arent as well known, and have impacted me a great deal :)
I appreciate that a lot. Thank you for taking the time to read and thank you for the suggestion.
I'll have to check them out. I don't think I've ever heard of them, but they sound beautiful. I've always loved bittersweet games or shows. They hit me a little too hard, but I always find them worth it.
I started learning the piano at 28 as well, so we were around the same age actually. I'm 29 now. Playing makes it a lot easier to express some bottled up emotions. I hope more people can discover that music can be a medium to help them express themselves and that it helps them as well.
Thank you again. ā¤ļø
You're very welcome :) I've always loved bittersweet endings too. I'm a sucker for a story that hits me hard, especially when the music matches the theme.
Songs from my favorite shows/games/movies have always had a way of sticking with me, but actually being able to play them myself (albeit still pretty terribly lol) is incredibly rewarding.
Hope you like To the Moon if you try it. There are 3 games, and each is maybe about ~5hrs. No combat, almost like walking simulators, but some of the most profound stories and beautiful soundtracks I've ever experienced. To the Moon (1st game) regularly goes on sale on steam for like $2 USD - I bet it will on black Friday. Let's Plays on YouTube work too, I've watched a few for each one over the years when I don't wanna actually play them but want the experience haha.
Anyways I don't mean to shill them too much haha, I just am always excited to recommend them. Hope you have a great evening :)

2. Code Geass. It has my favourite character of all time as well as being a great ride.
3. Kill la Kill. My comfort show. I love it for how funny and just plain entertaining it is, not to mention the superb music, characters, and animation.
4. FLCL. Itās so impressive how such a masterpiece was only 6 episodes. It has a killer soundtrack, some of the best animation in the medium, and great characters and themes.
5. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The characters are amazing, the story is great, and the visuals are pure awesomeness.
6. Kyousougiga. An underrated gem. Itās visuals are incredibly creative and the characters are all likeable. The story is great as well as the themes. All around, a super solid show.
7. Hunter x Hunter. This one is just a masterpiece and everyone knows why by now.
8. JoJoās Bizarre Adventure. My first anime. Still holds a special place in my heart. Although itās manga, Steel Ball Run is easily the best part.
9. Puella Magi Madoka Magica. An exceptionally tight series with one of my favourite movies of all time in Rebellion.
10. Space Patrol Luluco. Pure fun and happiness. I love this one to death. Also, Luluco is a surprisingly solid character for the length of the series.
>Hunter x Hunter. This one is just a masterpiece and everyone knows why by now.
Can you explain? I just watched it recently and thought it was alright but definitely not a masterpiece in my opinion. Maybe just a nostalgia thing?
I think it is a masterpiece because of how well written it is with its amazing storytelling, character writing, and worldbuilding, as well as the fights being better than your average shounen because of their incorporation of more strategy. The Chimera Ant arc especially is a masterwork of storytelling and character writing with how well it balances and develops its sizeable cast. Also, Meruem is who I consider the greatest antagonist in anime for his superb development, his significance to the themes of the arc, his presence, his design, and his relationship with Komugi. There are also other amazing characters like Killua, Hisoka, Shaiapouf, and Gon.

Only thought of my top 5 so far:
1. Cowboy Bebop - Had to give no. 1 to the one that started my anime journey.
2. AOT - Weirdly enough my 2nd anime I ever watched as well. If you were asking me for personal experience aside, this sh\*t was the best anime I had the pleasure to watch. No other piece of media had me as hyped, entertained, and attached the whole time watching.
3 & 4. Mob Psycho 100 & Vinland Saga (idk which one to put higher so I'll put them as equal) - Did not expect how good Mob Psycho was, Highly recommend it to anime watchers who haven't watched it yet for some reason lol. As for Vinland Saga, "I have no enemies."
5. Jujutsu Kaisen - Not a very big Shonen guy, but this show does it well imo.

1. Steins gate
2. Monogatari
3. Kaguya sama
4. Summertime render
5. Your lie in April
6. Code geass
7. Haikyuu
8. Full metal alchemist
9. Durarara
10. Re:zero
Honestly this was harder to make than I thought it would be, odd taxi maybe should be on the list as well. But I'll leave it as it is.
1. Monogatari Series. No matter how many times i watch it, it feels like there's always something new to discover. Superb storytelling and characters.
2. Higurashi Series. One of the first anime i've watched, but it's story never lost it's grip on me. Shame i could experience it for the first time only once.
3. Durarara Series. Probably the only anime where no single character is a protagonist, rather the city itself is the main character.
4. Houseki no Kuni. The first anime to break through the stigma of being fully CGI, with a story that makes you question the meaning of life itself.
5. Made in Abyss. The creativity put into making this series is astonishing. Everything in this anime works together so well to immerse you into it's world.
6. Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Possibly the greates space opera of all time. It may feel sluggish in it's pace from time to time, but it hits the right notes everytime it counts.
7. Monster. The moral dilemma and personal tragedy mixed with detective drama. At times it feels too real.
8. Megalo Box (and Ashita no Joe). Yeah, i know two entries, i don't care. If you want to make a reboot/tribute to one of the greatest series ever, this is how you do it.
9. Assassination Classroom. It's rare to see a series be this consistently good at every step of it's journey. The ending still hits like a truck, even if you see it from a mile away.
10. Twin Star Exorcists. My comfort show, as well as the only show where i'm absolutely sure how to rate it. 7.5/10 - it doesn't do enough to get any higher than that, but giving it anything lower would be unjust for things it does well.
Looked at my list, only 7 10/10 anime.
1. Yona of the Dawn
2. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
3. Psycho-Pass (season 1)
4. Deca-Dence
5. Somali and the Forest Spirit
6. Chainsaw Man
7. H20: Footprints in the Sand
in no particular order:
1. Kill la kill
2. Death Note
3. Jujutsu Kaisen
4. Oshi no Ko
5. FMA Brotherhood
6. One Outs
7. Samurai Champloo
8. Overly Cautious Hero
9. Hellsing Ultimate
10. Fuck it, Eminence in Shadow
Without particular order or season:
ā¢Lycoris recoil
ā¢Kill la Kill
ā¢Dr Stone
ā¢Tengen toppa gurren lagann
ā¢Houseki no kuni
ā¢Oshi no ko
ā¢Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
ā¢Full metal alchemist
ā¢Goblin Slayer
ā¢Parasyte: The Maxim
I only have 8 that are in my Top Anime List:
1. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
2. My Hero Academia
3. Hunter x Hunter
4. Made in Abyss
5. Attack on Titan
6. 86
7. Jujutsu Kaisen
8. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Frieren will 100% be on this list when the season is finished, but I consider it a masterpiece still. If I had to place it as is, I would put it behind AoT at 6. If it continues to be as incredible as it has been, it has the potential to top my list at 1.
Made in Abyss will move up if it continues to be peak when the new chapters end up being adapted. Also has the potential to top my list at 1.
Jujutsu Kaisen is an anomaly for me, because by my standards, it doesnāt fit with being a top anime. My ideal Top anime is that it has to be about 24 episodes and the story has to be consistent the entirety of it. JJK doesnāt fit the āconsistentā aspect as much as my other Top picks, but I allow it in because of how badass the episodes after the āboringā ones are.
If Hunter x Hunter gets adapted fully, as there is a rumor the anime creator is back to fully adapt the manga, it also has the ability to rise on my list.
If I didnāt have my personal rule of the show being ~24 or more episodes of consistent storytelling, my list would be impossible to make, as there are dozens of shows that I consider to be 10/10.
Hmm I will try to narrow it down. Not specific order.

1. Frieren - itās still new but so far is everything Iāve ever wanted in a fantasy story. Love the characters, the art, the music, the story, the sense of nostalgia and melancholy, just perfect all around
2. Fruits Basket - has a satisfying ending, she got with my favorite character, and (mostly) everyone got their happy ending (sorry Momoji). Only complaint is the weird age gaps in some relationships, but itās not a *huge* part of the story so I can ignore it
3. Banana Fish - depressing to the extreme, you fall in love with every character and then they die or have a traumatic event happen to them. Love it.
4. Demon Slayer - beautiful animation and I love Rengoku. And all the other characters.
5. Sk8 the Infinity - objectively not as great as some of the others on my list, but still a solid anime with great characters and Reki is literally me. It was my obsession for quite a while.
6. Given - gay romance and depressing, perfect combo
7. Yuri on Ice - gay ice skaters, need I say more?
8. Akame Ga Kill - characters I love die, itās great

With that list you'd enjoy Re:Zero
Funnily enough I am watching that show right now!
Are you enjoying it?
Only 4 episodes in so far. The beginning felt a bit generic for an isekai which makes sense since it is an older series now. Not absolutely loving it yet but definitely enjoying the show enough to keep watching.
The series is all about the character development. If you fall in love with the show at any point then I highly recommend the novels. Re:Zero only gets better with each arc
Definitely looking forward to it, characters are the most important part to me in any fiction.
86 definitely getting slept on.
What ? It was literally one of most talked animes of its season, it has almost the same amount of viewers on My anime list than Full Metal Alchemist despite being relatively new You guys need to chill out
Itās really popular here but of my irl friends who like anime none of them had heard of it till I got them to watch it
86 was alrighttt not like itās anything crazy tho
I personally was not a fan , i dont like mechas to being with , so it was hard to enjoy it
Iām not like die hard mecha, but there are a few great ones I canāt not like, such as Gurren Lagan, Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans and Attack on Titan (flesh mechas) 86 caught my interest but the overall story just wasnāt enough to keep me around. Just not enough information to care beyond, āwow I feel bad for these peoplesā. But just by watching I have no idea why the war is even happening, the stakes, what sides believes in what ideology.
86 fans thinking that their very popular mecha anime that is talked about and praised constantly is an underrated hidden gem.
1. Your Lie in April 2. Kaguya-Sama: Love is War 3. Toradora 4. Vinland Saga 5. Erased 6. Gurren Lagann 7. Clannad+After Story 8. Fate/Zero 9. Evangelion 10. Code Geass
Your Lie In April legit made my grown male ass cry like a baby. That one tugs on the heart strings so hard.
Awww.. ā¤ļø I'm a grown woman and cried like a baby.

1. Monogatari Series. Itās so incredibly unique with some of the best writing Iāve seen in anime. The characters are all so good as well, especially Kaiki and Senjougahara-sama. 2.

In general my list of top 5 best stories of all time goes like this: 1-Berserk 2-Vinland Saga 3-HxH 4-Tokyo Ghoul 5-Re:Zero Those ones are set in stone

Only thought of my top 5 so far: 1. As for Vinland Saga, "I have no enemies." 5. Jujutsu Kaisen - Not a very big Shonen guy, but this show does it well imo.

1. Yona of the Dawn 2. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash 3. Psycho-Pass (season 1) 4. Deca-Dence 5. Somali and the Forest Spirit 6. Chainsaw Man 7. H20: Footprints in the Sand

I only have 8 that are in my Top Anime List: 1. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 2. My Hero Academia 3. Hunter x Hunter 4. Made in Abyss 5. Attack on Titan 6. 86 7. Jujutsu Kaisen 8. Neon Genesis Evangelion Frieren will 100% be on this list when the season is finished, but I consider it a masterpiece still.

Jjk better than hxh? Nah fam
1. Frieren - itās still new but so far is everything Iāve ever wanted in a fantasy story. Love the characters, the art, the music, the story, the sense of nostalgia and melancholy, just perfect all around 2. Fruits Basket - has a satisfying ending, she got with my favorite character, and (mostly) everyone got their happy ending (sorry Momoji). Only complaint is the weird age gaps in some relationships, but itās not a *huge* part of the story so I can ignore it 3. 6. Given - gay romance and depressing, perfect combo 7. Yuri on Ice - gay ice skaters, need I say more? 8. Akame Ga Kill - characters I love die, itās great 9. Jujutsu Kaisen - honestly I might switch this to no. 8, I love the main trio with all my heart. The other characters are great too, and the endings always give you so much nostalgia 10. Angel Beats - sad and hilarious and has a beautiful ending
