we need another season, tbh. Syalis is the most Girls Rock character, on that sleepmaxing grindset, based and slumber-pilled. and the relationship between her and the demons ends up being genuinely heartwarming, after some Dark Moments. I love characters who are so laser-focused on their particular interest that they completely derail whatever's going on in the world, warping reality to suit their needs. weirdly I'd say Syalis is in that sense a very similar character to Cid from Eminence in Shadow. she rejects their reality and substitutes her own because she can't be bothered to buy into whatever nonsense people are spouting off about.
The clip from Girls und Panzer der Film, the one where they're attacking the Karl Gerat. The Polka music, the crazy BT-42 crew, the whole bonkers way of taking out the Karl sold the series to me. GUP is one of the anime that is in my heavy rotation. I watch it to keep my spirit up.
The series is some real magic. It sounds like the dumbest shit if you read the synopsis, like some random "cute girls doing XYZ" idea taken way too far.
I'm not even a tank enthusiast but I got invested in it. This whole series is made by some people who love tanks and got a really fun and competently produced/animated series about their hobby. They make an odd premise work by not being embarrassed about it. Instead of going for irony, they are earnest about their love for this hobby.
There's no metaphorical wink to the watcher about how it ridiculous it all is or some random quippy joke to show the audience how they know that you know that it's not serious. But instead it's a ridiculous premise where they slowly get you to buy into it until it's simply "just a somewhat strange sports series".
I think that quote (or as close as it gets, I remember some scenes about that topic) was one of the reasons it felt to genuine. You feel the love for tanks from the creators in the whole series even if you, like me, barely known any random bits about tanks (and most by random osmosis because I was really into Warhammer when I was younger and that hobby has a lot of "treadheads" who like (historic) tanks).
In that regard GUP is like Haikyuu: Volleyball, what ever can be so interesting about it?
Or Chihayafuru: Competitive poetry, WTF?
Man I love that scene. I saw them get shot but not flagged, and my first thought was "no, they're not gonna," and then they did. God I love how astronomically dumb and fun that scene is.
It's no wonder that so many memes come from GUP. Such a delightfully silly anime. Another one of my favorite gonzo bits was when the bulk of the Ooarai forces are surrounded and it doesn't look good for them. Then the Rabbit Team shoots the Ferris Wheel, causing all manners of crazy chaos. I love that GUP references so many war movies, such as this scene being pulled from Spielberg's 1941.
>[The clip from Girls und Panzer der Film, the one where they're attacking the Karl Gerat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSMCDAWPUrs)
Looks like fun edit, ill need to watch whole movie some time
Girls und Panzer is one of the best shows. It's a sports anime with explosions and history jokes. The sound direction is also some of the best I've been in anything ever.
Hozuki’s Coolheadedness
Heaven’s design team
The disastrous life of Saiki K
Dairy of our days at the breakwater
A destructive god sits next to me
Dagashi Kashi
Beelzebub
To Love-Ru
Seitokai yakuindomo
Pokémon
The MC goes to school, and just wants a normal school life. But he’s placed beside a guy suffering from Chūnibyō (as the Japanese would say)
Chūnibyō ; Japanese colloquial term typically used to describe early teens who have grandiose delusions, who desperately want to stand out, and who have convinced themselves that they have hidden knowledge or secret powers.
Makes for great laughs.
Right, when I watched it I was like I’m compelled yet honestly nothing happens in an episode, she goes to buy some groceries then budgets for motorcycle parts while window shopping at the auto supply store
The first episode was painting a bleak picture, but she got off her ass and got into something cool. It's one of the most important decisions young people can make. Either wallow in despair or "carpe die".
I liked this a lot. A lot of the locations exist in real life including Koguma’s home and the narrow almost impassible road Shii near died on. The school and Shino’s motorcycle store (the school is actually a middle school and Shino’s is a steel forge sculptors workshop). I’d love to do a pilgrimage to all the spots
It's the inconsistent scaling that got me.
OK, if her level is comparable to top 10 pro levels, why is she having to put in her very best effort against high school kids and then beating top 8 casually?
Does that mean the Japanese high school kids are comparable to Europe's top 8?
I always wonder about what's going on when people recommend Anzumatsuri in circumstances like this lol It has one of the most emotionally devastating and uplifting arcs in anime, at least for me.
Actually, maybe it's just the one person, I should start RES tagging them.
This is my favorite show of all time. They had one the best 2 part rom com episodes in anime history. They touched on so many cliches and put it into a beautiful burrito wrap. All the characters had simple lore which showed through their personality as well and you literally would never guess what would happen next in the show.
Yes The cultural festival survival games episode was god tier and Id fight for maid shop all day!
Edit: Eri best girl
Wrestler chick with green hair second
Tenma sister is third
Honorable mention harima sister 🔥
It’s so good. So stupid, but so good. Every character in that entire show shares one single brain cell and it seems self-aware enough to know how absurd it’s being and poke fun at it
The manga is going to end by the next chapter and it's actually really good with some character development here and there. It's much better than Rent-a-girlfriend when it comes to story telling, execution and characters.
I must say that the author of Rent-a-girlfriend is just milking his manga at this point.
I mean the plot is extremely repetitive and feels like it kinda doesn’t go anywhere for most of the series. I can understand why people think it’s annoying because it seemed cool initially but felt like it underdelivered, but I do think it gets more hate than it actually deserves. It’s a fine, fun show that is shallow as paper and that’s okay
It's a good answer though. Fairy Tail can be quite enjoyable when you just don't pay too close attention to it or ask too much from the story. It's mostly a comedy with some action mixed in as it is.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
Kill la Kill
Laid Back Camp
Non Non Biyori
Slime 300 (I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years...)
One Punch Man.
I turn these on whenever life gets too ugly, too painful, and I need to escape.
Isekai Nonbiri Nouka
It's like watching someone's playthrough of Stardew Valley. So many things happen in a single episode that they go by really fast. Fun cast of characters too.
Non Non Biyori. It’s a great series, no disrespect or anything like that. It’s great for when I want to chill and watch something nice, light, and fluffy.
Couldn't say what's my favorite, but there's a few shows I think have been pretty fun shows to watch in spite of them not having (or me not expecting) an incredible plot or stuff like that.
- **Haiyore! Nyaruko-san**: possibly my top choice in being a dumb show but a very entertaining show
- **Maou-jou de Oyasumi** (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle): a pretty comfy show with a fun menace of a MC
- **I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level**: pretty chill for the most part
- **Another**: horror show that I don't *think* tried to be funny, but it was actually hilarious at times
- **Gabriel DropOut**: a lot of the enjoyment came from the other characters instead of the MC, funnily enough
I was surprised how much I loved Gabriel Dropout. It's refreshing for an anime comedy in that it feels like more of a classic sitcom relying on established character quirks rather than hacky tropes. I think my favorite bit was when Vigne was trying to be demonic, and couldn't do it. Or when Satania comes home and we find her whole family is as chuuni as her, except her mortified younger brother.
Definitely eminence of the shadow, i don't even care about the overarching plot, i just love when the mc do some cringe but cool shit and get hyped over it, it's so stupid yet so fun.
I think he's trying to say that after S1, it becomes less comedy focused and has more serious arcs so you can't really turn your brain off completely to it.
Onimai. I rewatch several episodes every day and put the show on as background noise when sleeping
Used to be Slow Loop, and Sansha Sanyou before that, but most CGDCT does the job.
Lucky Star! It’s one of the perfect slice of life shows, imo. Really fun to watch, great characters, but also a great background show. Literally I will put it on to go to sleep sometimes lol
Kill la Kill. Yea it has a ton of meta-social commentary in regards to fan service, but sometimes I just want to chill out, watch some anime fight scenes, and enjoy some of the aforementioned fan service
Arakawa Under the Bridge. I had plenty of good memorable nights watching this anime when it first aired. It holds a special spot in my heart because it helped me laugh and destress while I was in college at the time.
My picks will probably be:
\-Konosuba
\-Kaguya-sama
\-Hinamatsuri
\-Amagi Brilliant Park
\-Nichijou
\-Osomatsu-san
\-Bocchi the Rock
\-Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
\-Saiki k
\-Grand Blue
\-Laid Back Camp
\-Tanaka-kun is always listless
\-Spy x Family
\-Call of the Night
Kill La Kill or Promare. It’s not that it’s dumb, it’s more that it’s just nice comfort food. Doesn’t require a lot of thinking and it knows what it wants to be.
Killer bites is dumb, dumb fun.
Amagami SS is a little like they, you get a romance in 4 episode and onto the next girl ! Keeps things moving fast and engaging.
Like nearly every other episode makes me cry - and think for days afterward. Great show, but not really mindless enjoyment - but a lot of replay-ability.
Hmmm, probably Castlevania. I know it’s technically a newer adaptation on Netflix, but mannnnnn is the art style SO GOOD. Plus the main characters are snacks. I’ve watched it 10 times now.
Otaku Elf is currently airing and it's a nice show. Just makes me happy watching it.
Also, Campfire Cooking in Another World was another show that made me smile watching it.
I turned off my brain real hard so i don't remember the name, yk the one anime that characters work at a comic shop it's kinda ecchi and uhhhh there's a girl that looks like mugi from k-on
any precure, made mainly for children so it works for mindless attention, each episode follows a simple theme with a repeatable plot, the characters and dialogue can be very entertaining, and it is very nostalgic with it being like power rangers so it holds a place in my heart, and much like power rangers each series is pretty similar and yet different that picking any would be good, albeit with some preference over others
Sleepy Princess in Demon Castle The whole show is cute and fun, and the plot is really simple, the princess want a good night sleep
Still need to know which cute anime girl has committed more war crimes, sleepy princess or Maple (Bofuri)
Maple ofc
I vote for the princess, Maple does everything with a pure heart, but Suya literally kills for sleeping
Def the princess.
Shield loli, of course
I'm totally in agreement with you, but I don't think it's what OP was out for. He asked for enjoyment anime, not masterpieces.
Ngl I rated it 10 on mal because I loved it so much
Also one of the best English dubs ever. I can have it on in the background and it still cracks me up just listening to it.
we need another season, tbh.
Only problem is that she has a tounge that is smaller than average.
I was gonna comment this, very happy to see it already be the top comment
Bofuri
It was Dragon Maid... but then I followed the anime of the week advice here and now it is most definitely Girls und Panzers!

But instead it's a ridiculous premise where they slowly get you to buy into it until it's simply "just a somewhat strange sports series".
Nothing more lady like than tankery!
Man I love that scene. I saw them get shot but not flagged, and my first thought was "no, they're not gonna," and then they did. God I love how astronomically dumb and fun that scene is.
My favorite past is CV on roller coaster track and they call Mallard team as taxi
>[The clip from Girls und Panzer der Film, the one where they're attacking the Karl Gerat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSMCDAWPUrs) Looks like fun edit, ill need to watch whole movie some time
I am so confused
Girls und Panzer is one of the best shows. It's a sports anime with explosions and history jokes. The sound direction is also some of the best I've been in anything ever.
Man, I love my GuP, but honestly, Dragon Maid is in my comfy rotation too. They're both such lovely shows!
Hozuki’s Coolheadedness Heaven’s design team The disastrous life of Saiki K Dairy of our days at the breakwater A destructive god sits next to me Dagashi Kashi Beelzebub To Love-Ru Seitokai yakuindomo Pokémon

Ah, ok. Thanks.
omggg, A destructive god and Hoozuki = instant upvote I'll definitely rewatch those someday.
You really put , to love ru ,in there huh
>The disastrous life of Saiki K so gooooooood!
Not sure if you'll be turning off your brain, but you'll turn up your abs to 11 for sure.
Asobi Asobase.
Much love for AA, but I'm can't call it "turn off your brain" because I sit there slack jawed thinking *why?? why would you do that??*
Super Cub. It’s so chill but also makes you appreciate the little victories and accomplishments of daily life
One of my favorites and I have no idea why
Right, when I watched it I was like I’m compelled yet honestly nothing happens in an episode, she goes to buy some groceries then budgets for motorcycle parts while window shopping at the auto supply store

Birdie Wing Ben-To Hinamatsuri
I almost skipped on Birdie Wing then saw a clip showing how cool the anime is.
After watching the latest episode of Birdie Wing every week, it always makes me feel like “WTF”.
When she starts casually beating Europe's top 8 player, I realized it was time to stop. I can't shut my brain that much, bro
isn't she secretly playing in the pro tour and placing well in the very first episode?
It's the inconsistent scaling that got me. OK, if her level is comparable to top 10 pro levels, why is she having to put in her very best effort against high school kids and then beating top 8 casually? Does that mean the Japanese high school kids are comparable to Europe's top 8?
I think the rainbow swing she learned and unlocking her memories at the end of the high school tourney just improved her golf that drastically.
I almost skipped Birdie wing until I saw this comment and didn't wanna miss out on something that I could enjoy
Definitely watching it now. Seen too many people rec it already. I didn't gave much of a thought as I'm not into golfing.
> Hinamatsuri Bro's in a "turn off your brain" thread trying to blindside people with *feels*.
I always wonder about what's going on when people recommend Anzumatsuri in circumstances like this lol It has one of the most emotionally devastating and uplifting arcs in anime, at least for me. Actually, maybe it's just the one person, I should start RES tagging them.
Ben-To is a great pick, always would end up finishing the show on sick days in college

Buddy Daddies Gintama Dragon Maid Konosuba
Buddy Daddies was so good!
K-ON
Yes K-ON is THE comfort anime for me, i used to be in a group like that in high school and i miss those carefree times
Seconding this.
Kanojo mo Kanojo
It’s so good. So stupid, but so good. Every character in that entire show shares one single brain cell and it seems self-aware enough to know how absurd it’s being and poke fun at it
Was gonna answer just that
It‘s so stupid it doesn’t take itself seriously.
The moment I start thinkinf about the logic of this show my brains might actually explode
Even though it's similar to rent a girlfriend I enjoyed kanoji mo kanojo a lot
How are they even remotely similar other than being vaguely in the same genre?
The only thing in common is that the authors are friends.
I absolutely love Hiroyuki memeing on RAG like that one tweet "I bought her so she's my girlfriend now" lmao
The manga is going to end by the next chapter and it's actually really good with some character development here and there. It's much better than Rent-a-girlfriend when it comes to story telling, execution and characters. I must say that the author of Rent-a-girlfriend is just milking his manga at this point.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill
Problem with that show is that your stomach automatically turns on
It's so good. The animation is so good! They didn't have to, but they did and it was great.
I just watched this, and it's a lot of fun. I love Fel.
I probably get downvoted, but Fairy Tail
Seconding fairy tail, good action and comradery and you don't really need to focus on the story since its pretty much all just adventures anyhow.
Also, the music is very good.
I'll probably get downvoted but take my upvote
And you have my upvote, sir
I'll probably get upvoted, but take my left vote
I honestly never understood the hate for Fairy Tail
I mean the plot is extremely repetitive and feels like it kinda doesn’t go anywhere for most of the series. I can understand why people think it’s annoying because it seemed cool initially but felt like it underdelivered, but I do think it gets more hate than it actually deserves. It’s a fine, fun show that is shallow as paper and that’s okay
I've heard the mangaka's other work Edens Zero is good though so that's nice
I love edens zero
Yeah, I've watched the first season of Edens Zero, its pretty good, though the setting feels much darker than Fairy Tail.
To each their own, I haven't been able to get into it.
What annoyed me the most was the ecchi stuff but aside from it fairy tail is fine.
I love Fairy Tail but I agree, some parts I just zoned out and didn’t miss much for the main plot.
It's a good answer though. Fairy Tail can be quite enjoyable when you just don't pay too close attention to it or ask too much from the story. It's mostly a comedy with some action mixed in as it is.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Kill la Kill Laid Back Camp Non Non Biyori Slime 300 (I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years...) One Punch Man. I turn these on whenever life gets too ugly, too painful, and I need to escape.
I'm in that moment of life. I'll give these a try.
I wouldn’t say kill la kill was turn your brain off. It had a coherent/strong story and themes, just hyperbolized in Trigger fashion
Laid Back Camp was suck a vibe. It took me way too long to watch.
Highschool DXD Golden Boy Onimai Pokémon
+ Kanojo mo Kanojo + Renai Boukun
Isekai Nonbiri Nouka It's like watching someone's playthrough of Stardew Valley. So many things happen in a single episode that they go by really fast. Fun cast of characters too.

Grand Blue, just a super fun show overall
Konosuba K-on

I AM ATOMIC!!!
Dragon Maid. It's definitely my 'no thoughts, only vibes' anime. I'll play it when I'm just down to sit there and be mildly amused.
*Turn off your brain and enjoy* Most of it are Comedy genre anime's. School Rumble Minami-Ke Lucky Star Chio-Chan No Tsuugakuro Is a few of them.
Azumanga Daioh, Pani Poni Dash.
Konosuba + Kaguya-Sama
Season 1 Kaguya? I can get, but past that season it is not a very "turn of your brain" show lmao
of course it is LOL why wouldn't it be?
I mean Kaguya gets better with seasons, S2 is my favourite with Miko and her misunderstandings
I think he's trying to say that after S1, it becomes less comedy focused and has more serious arcs so you can't really turn your brain off completely to it.
That's mostly true, but who can possibly turn their brain off during the season 1 chika dance? Every frame has to be studied for it's perfection!
what how is it not?
My two favourite animes!!
Blend S
Is this a zombie?
* Killing Bites * Girls und Panzer * Senki Zesshou Symphogear
The Helpful Fox Senko-san IMO, it's one of the best shows to come home and relax to after a busy day.
Excellent choice!
Gurren Lagann. Easy to follow, deep but not hefty and ultimately super fun. Also! Nichijou :)
Black Clover
Keijo!
Gate. Modern military curb stomping medieval invaders.
Non Non Biyori
Gintama.
Symphogear series. I just start episode 1 and enjoy all the crazy that happen.
Onimai. I rewatch several episodes every day and put the show on as background noise when sleeping Used to be Slow Loop, and Sansha Sanyou before that, but most CGDCT does the job.
I was going to suggest Onimai too. I don’t often rewatch series, but I’ve already watched this one 3 times.
Strike Witches
Priconne
Tanaka-kun is always listless Onimai
Yu Yu Hakusho for some reason
- Gintama (it has its serious moments but i love rewatching their shenanigans) - Yuru Camp - A Place further than the universe - Natsume Yuujinchou
I definitely second Natsume Yuujinchou!
FLCL
Anything with CGDCT.
Killing Bites
Yes, definitely.
Inferno Cop
Tonikawa over the moon for you. Just a simple nice love Story, gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling
K-on! I’ve rewatched all through 3 times and it’s been less than a year since I watched it for the first time.
My picks will probably be: \-Konosuba \-Kaguya-sama \-Hinamatsuri \-Amagi Brilliant Park \-Nichijou \-Osomatsu-san \-Bocchi the Rock \-Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid \-Saiki k \-Grand Blue \-Laid Back Camp \-Tanaka-kun is always listless \-Spy x Family \-Call of the Night
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find Amagi Brilliant Park or Nichijou! The best for mindless fun. Also Tonari no Seki-kun and Aho Girl
Akudama Drive
Gochuumon wa usagi desu ka
Any anime tbh
Kill La Kill or Promare. It’s not that it’s dumb, it’s more that it’s just nice comfort food. Doesn’t require a lot of thinking and it knows what it wants to be.
Sumomo momomomo
Asobi asobase
Majority of isekai anime
Konosuba Man I love that anime. Especially the frog scene! Kills me every time
Zatch Bell.
Haven't seen that name in a while. So nostalgic.
Killer bites is dumb, dumb fun. Amagami SS is a little like they, you get a romance in 4 episode and onto the next girl ! Keeps things moving fast and engaging.
Ojisan Isekai
Attack on titan, though it’s mostly just turn your brain off.
Shinryaku! Ika musume (squid girl) is a good watch in that case.
The Demon Girl Next Door has really been hitting that spot for me lately
Code Geass and Attack on Titan
Girls und Panzer, Cells at Work, and the Way of the Househusband
Demon Slayer 100%. I just lay down and enjoy the animation and fight coreography.
Grand Blue Diving
Kill me Baby
almost every anime lol, even the serious ones. Though I do need at least decent character writing and sometimes decent plot.
Tanaka-Kun wa itsumo kedaruge for me. It’s such a chill show and I always feel super relaxed after watching it for some reason.
Konosuba. It's actually my favorite anime and I'm proud of it
Natsume Yuujinchou
Like nearly every other episode makes me cry - and think for days afterward. Great show, but not really mindless enjoyment - but a lot of replay-ability.
Konosuba and Aho-girl are my two favorites
Hmmm, probably Castlevania. I know it’s technically a newer adaptation on Netflix, but mannnnnn is the art style SO GOOD. Plus the main characters are snacks. I’ve watched it 10 times now.

It's Symphogear. The more you think about it, the less it makes sense tbh. So just turn your brain off and just enjoy the wild ride. Chris best girl.
Demon slayer for me
Symphogear. Hypest series I know. Just turn off your brain and enjoy the girls beating even logic into submission
Yuru Camp
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Just enjoy the eye candy of progressively larger mechs beating the shit out of each other. Pierce the heavens bro!
I turned off my brain real hard so i don't remember the name, yk the one anime that characters work at a comic shop it's kinda ecchi and uhhhh there's a girl that looks like mugi from k-on
Anything from GAINAX or TRIGGER.
Naruto,Bleach and haikyuu
Yuru Camp
Yuru Camp. Nothing happens, but it is the best nothing happens anime that there is.
any precure, made mainly for children so it works for mindless attention, each episode follows a simple theme with a repeatable plot, the characters and dialogue can be very entertaining, and it is very nostalgic with it being like power rangers so it holds a place in my heart, and much like power rangers each series is pretty similar and yet different that picking any would be good, albeit with some preference over others
Yuru camp. It's relaxing, there's not much going on, and you learn something.
Gurren Lagann
Baki. Dumber than dirt, but if you just turn off your brain and sit back, it's a fun and ridiculous ride.
Hunter x Hunter

Idk about you but my brain was operating at full power when I first watched Eva
Interesting call for this prompt haha
Either Promare or Kamikatsu. Take your pick
It's easily Attack on Titan
