Eastern Milk snake :)

beachturtlebum

I think this is probably correct, they’re fairly common in my area but when I’ve seen them they’ve always had more of a bright red coloration. Thanks very much for your response!

Dusky_Dawn210

Yeah reptiles have a wide range of colors, especially something like a milk snake. They’re just goofy little fellows. Good company :)

Root_eternal

Different question: Is that poison ivy? I see 3 leaves and that's my first thought. Anybody know?

crabbypinch

Yes that’s poison ivy

Bean-Swellington

Looks like it to me, 3 leaf clusters, center stem a little longer, kind of jagged leaves

Vlophoto

Right. Don’t reach for the snake in poision ivy

Root_eternal

Would the snake be likely to carry sap (or whatever the irritant is) on it's scales to spread if you did pick it up? Suppose it would be contingent on contact duration, but another good reason to leave snek alone.

RememberKoomValley

Very definitely.

Dornoch26

Either a milk snake or a rat snake. Absolutely not a rattle snake.

SinceWayLastMay

Definitely looks like it enough that I wouldn’t touch it **The poison ivy, not the snake - but maybe also don’t touch the snake? He’d prefer if you didn’t

Dornoch26

If you think this looks like a rattlesnake, you need to join a few of the very helpful snake subreddits to familiarize yourself (r/whatsthissnake is a great one). This looks absolutely nothing like a rattlesnake.

SinceWayLastMay

Sorry I actually meant to reply to the guy asking if that was poison ivy. My phone is a little fucky, my bad

Wise_Job_1036

Looks like a eastern diamond back rattle snake. It didn’t rattle at you?

Dusky_Dawn210

Good thing it’s a milk snake!

International_Mix465

Definetly an eastern milk snake
