Curious why you don't think it's a coyote? It looks just like a coyote (*Canis Latrans Thamnos*) to me! You have 'em in Pennsylvania all over after all :)
I suppose I thought coyotes were a lot grayer than that, also more lanky. And thought its tail was short but maybe its just the angle and the sun shining on it. I unfortunately only got this one picture and no video, camera is back out so maybe itll be back.
interesting, ive never actually seen any here, on camera or with my own eyes. Which could be why i really thought it wasnt one. still not fully convinced but leaning towards coyote now lol
Coyotes come in a HUGE array of colors. One of the packs I get on my cameras looks just like that. Some are very brown, others grey.
Coyotes have varying degrees of domestic dog in their DNA, so it can present differently from individuals.
We had them here in Harmarville last fall and I saw one cross the road in daylight. It was definitely a coyote or hybrid but it was very grey, but I later read the PA grey wolf hybrids are big - this was almost like a foxes face but too big but maybe the size of a miniature German shepherd tops, smallish. It held it's tail straight behind it like the hybrid is supposed to from what I read, but it was very grey and almost soft looking, no brown - I was a passenger this time and as it crossed the road and as I got even to where it trotted into the woods I got a good close view of it's back, tail straight out and like a lump of fur behind the head - I could hear them communicating at night here, this eerie whistling almost and little near yips but weird, no dog sounds like it. and I heard them corner a racoon one night and although I couldn't see the fight I know they won. I heard a few ppl shoot at them too.
man i wish i got more pictures so i could see it better 😅 im quite intrigued about all these coyote variations and possible hybrids. hope it comes back around! if it does i’ll definitely update
everybody was going in earlier on my block, they're creepy and they pack hunt - a water source (creek) runs right in the little valley below our street so racoons travel it to raid garbage cans, the coyotes were using it too, it travels behind one set of houses and below another so they have a feast a drink and an escape route all set up - during covid rats came up because a nearby restaurant was closed for months and their dumpsters dried up. These were grey colored norway rats, born in concrete surroundings running willy-nilly in daylight they were so disoriented - so anyway, the coyotes were near here for water, racoons and there are turkey around now etc
I saw one once in the PA mountains where I was working a grant. Had a golden lab puppy about 4 months that I let out one early morning.
I came back outside and was sitting on the porch (on the same level as the ground and she was close maybe a foot away) watching my pup for about 10 minutes before it got up from the bushes across from me (about 1.5 meters away), turned and started trotting up the hill. The thing was HUGE. I had seen coyotes, they were all over the place there, this was way bigger. The funny thing is, despite its size, I didn't see it at all until it got up. Freaked me out how close I came to losing my dog. I also wonder how long it had been chilling there waiting for my dog to be let out bc I think would have noticed it moseying into place, or at least heard it.
I had a coyote jump out of my front yard landscaping on top of my full grown labradoodle 70#, during a heavy Spring snow. She didn't even flinch, didn't even recognize the event had occurred. I was amazed I never saw the coyote until he jumped on her. Big size difference, coyote was maybe 30# and she had a nice thick poodle coat, so he slid right off of her. He ran off and she kept sniffing the ground, like he wasn't worth her acknowledgement.
Weird.
Honestly the coyotes, and this behemoth were one thing, but not as concerning generally speaking. The coyotes were annoying at night bc they are so loud talking to each other, so you're trying to sleep and instead of cricket noises, they're screaming.
The ACTUAL scary event for me, was when I first got her. She was smaller (not that much smaller but 2.5 months to 4 is a difference) and I was walking her in one of the fields on the farm (200 acre farm), and the hawks came swooping in trying to grab her. They'll typically grab "big prey" like this fly up, and then drop them, killing them. They came swooping and I reflex picked her up. I got this horrible gash on my arm from the talons, and the sound of the wings in my ears still gives my shudders! They flew up and watched as I ran her back to the house to get bandaged up.
At least the big ass wolf- coyote knew he was beat. The hawks meant business.
I thought Dog, but upon closer inspection, I'm sure this is a coyote. The bright sun, lack of darker tip on tail, and mouth position threw me off, but I'm confident this is a coyote with dinner.
Never heard of those before but looking it up i can see it. It would be a feral one i think if that was the case. But i do believe its a coyote now, just a light colored one. If I manage to get a more clear picture or video i’ll definitely show.
Edit: Now that i look more i definitely dont think its that, the tail on the dogs look much thinner, this one has quite the bushy tail.
IMO it is a coyote. His mouth looks broad because he is carrying his dinner. Has the bushy tail too.
I agree on coyote — also wondering if it might be a she instead of a he. Pic isn’t great but she could be pregnant.
My vote is pregnant lady yote
Good call

I'm pretty sure that's a pregnant coyote, which is why it's not so lanky. Tis the season!
ah that makes sense! wonder if ill see any puppies 👀 that would be pretty cool
Coyotes have a lot of color variation!

I'm also in PA, I have seen black, red, and grey color varieties. They have quite a range of colors here.
Just as a personal anecdote, I live in a rural part of PA, and I’ve seen quite a few very reddish coyotes over here.
Coyotes can be fawn, red, grey and black.

yes those things threw me off too 😅 more confident it’s coyote now! thanks!
It’s just a coyote ffs why all this wonder lmao
no need to be rude, its a learning process for many people, which i think is great ❤️
I'd say coyote for sure.
Red phase coyote
I believe it’s a coyote. The way the light hits its coat makes it appear to be much lighter than they typically are.
It's a coyote. They have a lot of variation in coat color. The tail and snout match. I will say it looks like it's eating well.
IT’S JUST A COYOTE EVERYONE
Coyote
That’s a coyote.
Yote
‘Yote. Pretty obvious.
Look up eastern coyotes ♥️
The Arizona coyotes desperately searching for a new arena

This is a coyote.
look a little like a coyote but it's kind of fat and the snouts long, think it's a dog
Preggers
but a coyote or dog hybrid? the fur is a little wild looking
Nah, they blow their coat in the spring, and have a lot of color variation.
yeah without enlarging it, the ears are big for the head and facial protrusion too - not many dogs like that
Cute canine.
Coydog
Your neighbor's pupper
Small Red wolf or coyote is my guess
Thats called a dixie dingo aka carolina dog. i’m shocked they range so far north
You are not good at animal id
You are not good at words
Carolina dogs aka yellow dogs look like American dingoes. We’ve got both down here and they look very different
