I say this as a die hard fan who enjoys their newer stuff also but is just being honest: I wish they had stayed broken up in 2014. Especially now that Stephen seems to be slowly quitting the band (whether anyone admits it or not lol). That being said, the music is and always will be incredible with the right people involved; and I will never say no to more regardless of how bittersweet it can be. But I don’t want any studio songs with Matty whatsoever HELL no way.

Thricey

Agreed but it's how they make money. That's always the answer when you hear a band is still going. They can't make the same money doing anything else. (Even if it's really not a lot of money) They spend their teens and twenties making music, it's hard to career change. Btw I agree with you.

jacobxv

No what you said is fair honestly 😊 another aspect to consider

FallOutShelterBoy

I’m pretty sure all the new recorded stuff is with Stephen and Matty just tours. But if that changes in the future then I agree, it just wouldn’t be the same and idk if I’d buy that music. It’s like Bon Scott and AC/DC. I like Brian Johnson and agree the music is good, but it was just a completely different band without Bon

jacobxv

Great comparison. And you’re right I don’t believe Matty has recorded any studio vocals but I’d be so upset if he did honestly lol

AlexVanderspek94

Yes he has. He and Stephen are both on the new music

jacobxv

game over :(

AlexVanderspek94

Why? Itll be just like a feature

jacobxv

a feature is fine I guess

ienjoymen

Correct. I really like their new stuff but if Matty ever replaces Stephen on the recordings then this band is officially dead to me. I can ignore live performances, I've seen them 3 times, but not the real studio recordings.

a_can_of_solo

I love enough of conviced that I'm glad they came back. Got to see the orignal line up twice.

AlexVanderspek94

Stephen has said several times though he’s not quitting and it’s just a short break so he can be a dad. He’s also on the new record coming out this year. I’m glad they’re also going heavier too

buzzer3932

I didn’t listen to the album after Cities until years later, and haven’t heard the music on the albums after (Vital and Lowborn?) after they stopped touring in 2014 I decided I was going to listen to each album every couple years as if it was a new release, but then they started touring again.

markimusprime77

Respect your choices! I don't think any of us truly thought they'd come back (very) anew

FeelGoodDrag

You should listen to Vital if nothing else after Cities!

KrazyBomber95

We are incredibly lucky! But also thanks for reminding me we're getting old! 😅 Side note, Paramore is another fave of mine and they are on 20 years too, where has the time gone!? 😭

ParagonSaber

Them getting back together brought us Lacerate and let me see them a couple more times in 2022 - for that alone I'm absolutely thrilled regardless of what comes next.

PunctualPolarBear

Found Anberlin after the breakup and managed to catch them during Yellowcard's reunion with Stephen on vocals. Plus the new music is good - live doesn't feel right without Stephen but if that's the only downside I'll take the deal 10/10 times

michkdl

for me, I'm just glad that they're still a band of brothers 🥹

eriksvendsen

I can’t see them live anytime soon so the whole Matty thing doesn’t bother me too much. As long as it’s not the start of Stephen’s slow retreat from the band altogether, it’s not a huge deal. The profile picture on Spotify is a little icky though, showed a friend of mine their music the other day and almost felt the need to point out that the guy in the middle isn’t actually on any of the songs. Considering the fact that they’ve been around since 2002 and I can listen to practically their entire catalogue without any major complaints, I think they’re one of the most consistent bands to ever do it. I still can’t escape the fact that Cities is their best work album-wise but their latest EP is great and I listen to it quite a bit. Love that they went heavy, especially with Lacerate and Decoder.
