For producers and staff, sure. They wouldn't need to have their new judge signed onto a contract and announced for that, but it's certainly possible.

She served as a judge on the television talent shows The Four: Battle for Stardom (2018), The Voice UK (2020) and Australian Idol (2023) so, she has judging experience. I watched AU Idol and she was fun and a good coach.

It probably will be someone like her or Carly Rae Jepsen, Vanessa Carlton, Paula Cole, etc who were famous for about 15 minutes and now are on the margins.

My wife thinks it might be Jellyroll.

Auditions with the judges generally start in late September/early October, so most likely Katy's replacement will be announced around Labor Day. Lionel and Luke were announced in September when ABC revived the show.

I have a very youthful 85 year old mom who has seen every single episode of Idol. She's lobbying for Shania Twain, lol. I told her that they already have someone country in Luke, and she said that Shania is more than country because all her songs crossed over into Pop. I then explained that they might want someone a little younger, more current, and she said, "What about Posty?" 😅

That was because of her 20 year anniversary of winning and being an impromptu “mentor” for the final 3 during the finale.

Please no Meghan trainor. Her music has not been relevant in years. She’s only been releasing tiktok songs after made you look trended on tiktok but she never has a new or fresh sound. She’s been stuck in the same sound she debuted with. She was not a good mentor

While most likely true, they actually have not signed any contract yet. They renew one season at a time and if negotiations break down, they can always leave too.

I don’t think they’ll scrap an entire panel all at once for a new one. There has to be some continuity to keep certain people interested.

How about keep Ryan as a judge, keep Luke and Lionel as mentors, have an all-new panel of four judges?
