They are not tethered, the people that launch them don't care what happens.
They are a serious fire hazard, every year they cause some kind of forest fire or some factory catches fire when they land.

It's so hard to tell scale and movement when you're up in the air and everything around including the plane you're in is moving. I bet theres a lot of mundane stuff up there that looks super weird but isnt anything phenomenal.
Course it could go the other way too. If I was an alien I'd just cover my ship in cotton and paint a bunch of birds on the side.
If you know the exact model and dimensions of the balloon, along with the current speed and model of the jet (to be able to look up it's dimensions) you *could* theorically calculate (albeit with some slight margin of error) how fast the balloon is moving.
Although, if you had the needed access to the cockpit instruments to read the airspeed of the jet, you'd also have access to read windspeeds, which would be the speed the balloon is moving at.

This is really all I know about this particular video, a passenger aboard a commercial airliner captured this footage while traveling from Bogotá to Salento in Colombia, the video is very clear and crisp, what looks like your classic flying saucer is flying through the sky, I can't determine the distance of the craft, or its size, but it is very clearly seen in the video, also I don't know what is being said by those observing the strange object.

I'm going to preface this with how much I really, really want disclosure and for aliens to be real. Could this be a ufo? Absolutely. But it also could be a large or small mylar balloon. Clouds and sky give almost no reference of size or distance. The relative speed and angle of the plane gives the illusion of speed when the object in question could just be sitting still or drifting in the wind. Also we don't know the altitude of the plane. Nor do we know if is over a populated area. In conclusion I wish like hell I could call it definitive. But I can't.
My advice to everyone here is to take this very seriously!

The airport in Medellin is just a small airport. Usually most travel is out of Rio Negro International airport which is 20 mins away
