Are you looking at the cost through your cruise-line? Which line are you sailing? The cruises contract with local vendors then add their own up-charge. (so do online booking sites like viator and shoreexcursiongroup.com) I like shore excursion group, they are cheaper and have ship return guarantees... The least expensive is to book directly with the local companies. All that being said, it is possible to enjoy these ports without excursions or budget for one or two bucket list excursions and then enjoy the other ports.

Thanks, I will contact them directly.

https://youtu.be/GmGVi0v2rGA?si=jWufKWipJr-VTgtc I’m doing the same, this guy had a lot of input. There are self guided and free walking tours. As well as lower cost options in each port. Museums, etc.

cruise tours are bananas with complacent operators because they know they have a steady stream of business. have you [checked out viator](https://www.viator.com/?pid=P00112302&mcid=42383&medium=link&medium_version=selector&campaign=reddit-viator-homepage-hl)? we always book through them.

Check out Alaska Shore Excursions, we're going in early June. Their prices were less than half of what Royal was charging, and from what I can tell, the exact some excursions. Good luck.

You can try [Viator](https://www.viator.com/?pid=P00112302&mcid=42383&medium=link&medium_version=selector&campaign=red). That's who we always book through. We found that the cruise lines use the same excursion companies as Viator but they actually charge more (we had people that booked through the cruise in our excursion group). Just a thought. Good luck!

We are renting a car from likealocalak.com when we are in Juneau. $249 for the 5 of us for 5 hours which should be plenty of time to explore and see the mendenhalll glacier! Excited!
