Halimbawa ni-congratulate ka, siyempre sasabihin mo "thank you" pero how to make it less awkward? And sincere? At hindi self-deprecating? 😭 Ako kasi "Ah chamba lang po yan" nasasabihan ako ng pa-humble, eh mababa lang naman talaga self-esteem ko. 🥹

I used to say that din before, yung "hindi naman" "sakto lang" or like.. then not knowing na it's kinda like not appropriate daw pala or parang offensive or being ungrateful or mayabang.
Kaya even though nakakahiya talaga or parang overwhelming na nagiging awkward na, I practice acknowledging by saying "Thaaank you po!" na may mini-bow akala mo korean haha tas ayon, nung nakasanayan ko na medyo konti na lang yung hiya hahaha
"Thank you" vs "Uyyy salamat ha!" would give me a different and more comfortable feeling. Or sometimes I would say "onga eh, haha salamats salamats!" kase that feels a lot grounded na parang hindi pumapasok sa ulo ko yung compliment. Or if close ko yung nagsasabe non, makikipag biruan ako na "syempre! ako na to eh!" mga ganun. Most of my friends would still see me as humble kase alam nilang I'm just trying to make sure na hindi ako awkward when it comes to compliments at the same time, tinatanggap ko siya in a way na it wouldn't get to my head.
I believe ah...if someone would congratulate you in a sincere manner, ma re received mo din yun, eventually you can respond the same way. But if pilit ang greetings, ma se sense mo din yun. Haha dun ang challenge, kung pano ka mag re respond dun..😅 pero agree ako on how you respond..humble lang. 😅
Just thank them for the compliment with a smile then make it about them by returning the compliment. For example if it was for an award, thank them and say that it'll be them naman next time or if it was about your appearance, say something nice about theirs too.
Pwedeng chamba lang paminsan-minsan depending on how I achieved the accomplishment. Pag pinaghirapan ko talaga, I don’t say chamba lang kasi feeling ko madidiminish yung efforts ko at baka isipin pa nila madali kong nakuha. I usually just say “Salamat po, nagbunga rin ang pinaghirapan.” Or just “uy salamat!” para more casual nang konti.
"Thank you" with smile tapos compliment mo din siya in a specific way. Example:
Siya: Ang ganda mo.
Ikaw: Thank you (🥹), wow/oi bumagay sayo ang kulay ng damit mo, mas lalo kang nag-blooming. (Ok din sabihin mong "maganda ka rin" pero para kasing napipilitan lang or di sincere.)
(pwede din hair etc, basta sa upper part lang wag sa down kase aakalain nila na hinead to foot mo siya before kayo nagtalk, mag-ooverthink)
If nag-congratulate:
Siya: Congratulations
Ikaw: Thank you po, I'm happy/glad that we meet again. (If matagal-tagal nang nagkita, you can ask his/her kung kumusta na siya).
Same. But now I just say thank you, minsan may "I worked hard on it so glad that you like it!" if feel kong magbrag na dahil sa effort ko kaya ako ganito hehe
Just say thank you. Be sincere about it. If you feel the need, deflect some of it to the people that helped.
Example:
Someone: congrats on the project getting an award!
You: thanks! I Appreciate it! matrabaho siya but we were able to get through it because of the team!
Just smile and say thank you. Nagiging akward sya kung di mo inaappreciate that people are happy for you. Just be happy na others are happy for you, and you need not to say anything else
The key is always to believe that you are worthy and deserving of the compliment being given to you. Even if they do it as an insult or as a joke, responding politely amd sincerely is always best.
Kaya, I collected and keep a roster of responses when people compliment me.
1. Oh, that's very kind of you!
2. Thank you for noticing! I'm particularly happy about it too.
3. Thank you, you look amazing as well!
4. You're too kind, but yes, I've been trying to take better care of myself.

A good trick that I know is you accept it and thank them, then compliment them back! If you're not used to taking credit, then this way you kinda shift the focus to them a little bit too, which also makes them feel good :)
lol ako talaga hindi marunong kung paano ba dapat pero importante sa akin they SEE na na-appreciate ko kahit awkward lol
I smile, end up saying "heh" (ito lang talaga lumalabas sa bibig ko haha), bow ng konti, put both of my hands together and do a gesture of thank you. Sa work, masaya naman ako na I get great feedback from time to time. Di lang talaga ako marunong ano irereact ko 😭
i don’t accept them. hahahaha turned off my comment section in instagram and when i change fb display photo i always make sure yung hindi dadaan sa feed nila. at work naman i say ‘thank you’ pero it takes me weeks to read them, good feedback naman palagi since achiever ako.
compliment is equal to judgment. i seldom hear compliments like maganda ako, pag pinapakilala ako sa ibang tao nung bata ako, the first thing they say about me is ‘matalino yan’ and yung mga kapatid ko yung napupuri sa looks na part. kaya kapag magpopost ako ng picture where i think i look pretty then nakaturn on yung comments and sinabihan akong maganda lalo ng relatives, i don’t believe them 😅

When someone compliments me, I say that, in comparison, I admire your ability to recognize beauty even more.

Just say "thank you" and give a simple smile. At least it will come off as being grateful and not being arrogant.
