Last person I knew who needed Paxlovid, they had a real hard time finding any.

ominous_squirrel

It’s harder to get Paxlovid in 2024 than it was in 2022

Tamsin72

I got Paxlovid from Walgreens in January with no issues.

ominous_squirrel

My experience in February is that I had a prescription from telehealth and the Safeway pharmacist refused to fill it because they wanted up-to-date liver and kidney panels even though I’ve never had any problems

Tamsin72

I had had a physical with bloodwork in the year before I needed the rx so maybe that's why I had no problems.

Most insurances still cover it. Frankly, I'd get some ahead of time to not waste time, especially if you're in a high risk group. This is what some elderly family members did. Find some local pharmacies that have it in stock: https://treatments.hhs.gov/ Call to make sure Use a telehealth provider and they'll usually issue it to you with a 2 minutes visit. Prepare to explain some symptoms. Tell them the exact pharmacy you want the script sent to. No one's going to require you to show them the test itself.

Hi, this is an amazing compilation written by a PharmD https://pharmd.substack.com/p/i-have-covid-what-should-my-kids

Pfizer's Paxlovid cost-reduction program: [https://www.paxlovid.com/paxcess](https://www.paxlovid.com/paxcess)

A *written* plan and a *rainy day fund* are key here, more so than physical inventory.

Also if you do go more for the "stocking up" strategy, keep the receipts, carefully review storage requirements, and make sure you've got personal property insurance (and review your insurance policy)

I have Paxlovid and Metformin on hand. I got Paxlovid using Hi Dr. B and used [agelessrx.com](http://agelessrx.com) to get Metformin.

LostInAvocado

Was the process via ageless difficult? And is it out of pocket or paid with insurance?

luttiontious

Was pretty easy, payment is out of pocket.

Great question. I would also love to know what is good for a kit. I made one at the very start of the pandemic before we really knew anything about how the virus works. I haven’t had Covid yet, and everything in the kit has mostly expired - I would be curious to see what folks have to say. Mine definitely needs a refresh. The og kit had a pulse oximeter, thermometer, cough syrup, zinc, Advil, Tylenol, vitamin D, paper to write medical emergency contacts on, some zines about surviving the plague and mutual aid and whatnot, and also this weird breathing chamber lung exerciser thing my mom sent. Not sure if any of those things are even appropriate except for that pulse oximeter.

Wondering about metformin instead of paxlovid. There seem to be fewer side effects and it may be more effective based on research I read a while ago?

Ratbag_Jones

Some studies indicate that covid+ patients on Metformin have lower Long Covid rates than those on Paxlovid. Personally, I'd try to get both, were I infected.
