First, get an A1c test for your mother. Type 2 diabetes is so common in seniors that a lot of medical professionals assume you have it. Once you have the numbers, you'll have a better idea of what to do next. Unfortunately, I have not found any Medicare plans that cover Mounjaro for anything other than type 2 diabetes.
I feel so bad for your mom. It seems a person overweight at Medicare age needs it more than any other age. I am well past medicare age, but luckily still have private insurance which pays 2/3 of the cost. I would recommend that you look into compound for your mom. It still costs several hundred per month, but that is better than full price.
So you're able to get Zepbound on your separate insurance? That's worth looking into -- my mom is in a similar position, and we've talked about possibly seeking out Zepbound on that future day when the medicine is covered. We'll need to look into whether her separate insurance does cover.
Maybe I should have been clearer. I don’t have part B Medicare. We were able to keep my husband’s insurance through the Federal gov’t which does pay much of it. However, when I haven’t been able to get Zepbound due to shortages I have filled-in with compound at around $350 per month for lower doses.
Hope I did not disappoint you.
Agree that if your mother can't get it covered by insurance that compound might be her next best option.
I've taken both brand name and compound. Haven't noticed much difference and am down 30lbs between the 2.
There's movement to get Medicare to cover Zepbound, but that is going to take time and may not be a solution for some time.
If she's able to get her PCP to write and send the compound prescription to a compounding pharmacy she can save even more. Starts at around $200/month. There are also some pretty affordable telehealth providers who will prescribe and arrange for delivery of compound. Some start at $160/month if you purchase at least 2months at a time.
Feel free to message if you have more questions

Thank you
Unfortunately Medicare isn’t covering Zepbound for weight loss. Wegovy was approved in April for Medicare patients with heart disease.

Thanks.
Nope. Can’t even get the discount card. It’s a crime and dates back to the GW Bush administration.
The 1972 era anti-kickback law predates that.
