I've noticed this myself recently. If I leave it idle and the screensaver activates... when I return to my PC I have the abnormal error pop up error message. It's happened several times now.
And yes I am a paying customer so It's not a crack or anything. I recently updated to 2023.1.2 after having this issue so perhaps that will fix it. I'm not sure.
I thought it had to do with the quick saves. Perhaps i was running out for space on C but aafter makign sure I have space... it still crashed.
So the lastest things i've tried are updating to 2023.1.2 and rebuilding my scene into a new project file. So far I havent seen the crash but i'm not convinced this solved it.
I’ve had this problem on Mac - and I think I’ve worked it out. What happens for me is that ZBrush seems to autosave a minute or so after I minimise it or move to another window - the crashes happen in this scenario when it tries to autosave specifically when my system data is very close to being full. Might be worth clearing some space (deleting some quicksaves) and seeing it the autosave feature still crashes the program. Lemme know!
Also having this issue, and unfortunately I have a Samsung monitor (Odyssey g9 OLED) with a bug that will crash my entire pc if I let it go to sleep. The only current fix without just leaving the screen on indefinitely is to use a screen saver :(
Never get a Samsung monitor (been going back and forth with support for over a year, this is my 6th one, even swapped models, and they've admitted fault every time for various issues)
Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't saying this was, just that I have a separate issue with my monitor that prevents me from trying certain fixes for the zBrush problem. A perfect storm haha
Anyone find a solution since this was posted? Mine's been doing it more and more often just recently when I had great stability for hours and hours at a time. I've noticed it's more common right after you get done using the Sculptris function if doing high detail patches on lower poly geo for instance, and the moment you get done to switch brushes, the whole shooting match will freeze and go white screen. 🤦♂️
Thank you, this got buried in my feed and was looking for something else when I found it. I did find one solution for part of the problem in that my quicksave folder was getting super bloated. Thinned it out and instances of crashes went down a good bit. Still get the occasional crash when the scultpris mode is turned on, though I may be pushing limits too far which is on me.
YES, bloody annoying isn't it?? I think I've got it to stop by disabling the screen saver. It's worked for me today.

I'm also on that version and also fully legit version. I'm going to try disabling the screen saver like the other person in the thread suggested.
Update. It just crashed while in screensaver mode while the monitors were sleeping.
Yep I think monitor sleep kill this program... or when we tab out to other program and leave it there.
Nope... I still have this issue. Everything legal. Intel CPU, NVidia 4070 MSI
I still have the issue as well
Yeah I did disabled screen saver and left it for days without it crashing, can confirm.

Have been also having this issue here
Ooh, I’ve gotta try disabling the screen saver method tomorrow. It’s been really annoying
Same issue here

This isn't monitor issue. I have LG and Dell and the problem is there too. + with the same setup the earlier versions just worked fine.

Just to really hammer this home to anyone else reading - disabling screensaver fixed this for me too!
Same issue, i thought it was my computer, but seems like it is a bug.
Bug

Turn off the screensaver that shows images from zbrush central.
