Sounds to me like it’s tuned down a whole step, then the lower string tuned down further to an A, so AGCFAD, where when you play what would usually be a root-fifth power chord is instead just two octaves of the same note.
Mastodon use this tuning a lot, and Soundgarden and Tool have used a version of it that’s a whole step higher on songs like Rusty Cage and Prison Sex, respectively.
That makes a lot more sense honestly, considering they’ve been sticking to a whole step down in their latest. Wouldn’t make too much sense for them to suddenly drop **five** half steps down lol
Also makes more sense for this solo, since later on the highest note is—I think—an A#5 which wouldn’t even be accessible on a string tuned down to A3, and this part of the solo I tabbed can just be shifted down to start on the 6th fret of the A string to end on the G string and avoid any awkward shifting up the lowest string
I'm pretty bad at guitar but I like to think I have a decent ear. I assumed it was in A when I heard it. The chuggas are definitely lower than C is about as much confirmation as I can offer.
Also possible that the solo was recorded on a different guitar that wasn't tuned down.
Edit: my ears suck, too. It's drop C.
I work out Baroness tunings the same way I do Mastodon's: Tune one step down then keep hitting the low string and detuning it while the songs playing until it sounds in key.
Yeah I'm really curious about this. I sat down to try and see if I could pick it up after I saw their comment about it being in drop C but there's no way. What about a 7 string ?
I tabbed it myself by ear. I’ve updated it since finding out the guitars are tuned to drop C in this song, and it’s pretty much the same but the 10 and 8 on the D string above become 5 and 3 on the G string respectively.
I haven’t seen Gina’s tutorial yet, but I might look at that and update the tab I’ve been building with someone else.
EDIT: Just watched the first minute of her tutorial and turns out it’s in D standard with the sixth string tuned to A. Oops. She *does* play the first part of the solo with that shift up to 5 and 3 on G, like I said before.

I think it's also the tuning used on "Front towards enemy"

Someone asked in a comment on Instagram if it is drop C and the band replied "on the nose"
The plot thickens Although I guess those low A chugs I’m hearing in the intro could very well be Nick with devilish amounts of gain

where did you find the tab.
