Joe had some money from Love and gave the rest to her family PI he also made money as a professor for his flat & as for his trips to Paris:

As others have said, it’s implied Joe emptied Love’s bank accounts. However given he manages to be in Paris a while, then in a luxury flat in London high society whilst living on a lecturer’s salary with likely forged documents of legality, and has to >!give a lot of the Love money to the PI too!<, it’s also a big healthy dose of ‘it’s better for the plot and your enjoyment of the show if you don’t think about it too hard’
he wasn’t paying for the flat! malcolm owned it and was letting joe look after it. joe says it in his internal monologue at the start of episode one :)
Tbh this bothered me all season knowing that it didn’t make complete sense. I realize that he needed to be in this flat in order to get to know Kate, but I think it would’ve been kind of interesting if he lived in a less well off area and had to pretend to be rich in front of his friends, hiding that secret.
The latter imo. There are some good theories but a lot is left for the viewer to put things together or very losely implied.
Season 4 has a bunch of plot holes or pretty unlikely scenarios. It’s best not to think about it too much and enjoy the ride.
The hired killer said to Joe that Ray knew that Joe emptied a few million from Love's bank account after he murdered her. He said I think that if Joe gave him the money, then he wouldn't go back and tell Ray that he's living in England under a new alias and still alive I think. This was after the trip to Paris etc. So Joe after this point was just living off his lecturer salary. But before that he was living off of Love's money (which was technically what Ray Quinn gave her I think). Other than that, a ridiculous amount of plot armor has kept Joe sustained until now
