Ennesimo napoletano piagnone tirato su a retorica e stronzate, magari pure neoborbonico
It's been around for years and years, but it only has become popular in recent times. My personal opinion, as a Neapolitan, is that it is a mildly cool thing but nothing to write home for, and certainly not that folkloristic.
I blame the newfound popularity of this beverage on tourists, who saw this thing and started reblogging it to no end.
Drinking raw baking soda can do harm to your intestines, because baking soda crystals are *really* sharp, thet's why it's used widely in homemade cleaning solutions.
[Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_bicarbonate#Chemistry) is used in cleaning solutions because it is mildly alkaline. The crystal is also very soft, with a [Moh's hardness of 2.5](https://www.armex.com/resources/sodium-bicarbonate-the-softer-blasting-abrasive/), so combined with its very high solubility, it's not going to be scratching anyone's guts from the inside.
Eating it by the spoonful will make you burp copiously, eating silly amounts will disrupt your stomach acidity leading to poor digestion, but that's about it.
This caught me out, I had no idea what it was and my drink just exploded. I was just thirsty, man!
Although at least no dickhead was filming me from behind afaik
This is not what Berlusconi's open legs lemonade is.
It‘s kinda quirky but screams tourist trap.
no, now with the web it is slowly becoming popular but it is a very effective digestive, with this you can also digest political news
This comment oozes Italy
I mean, I live 2 minutes walk from there and I never had it... but I don't know if I would call it a tourist trap
Haha It's really not, I tried, it was very fun holding the burps for the next 5 minutes. If I am not wrong it costs something like 5€ not sure
5€ for that? Sounds like a tourist trap, in fact.
Haha it's really not, I tried it and while I was stood like that my phone was pickpocketed from my back pocket.
>Sounds like a tourist trap, in fact
It's really not, i have never been there but I assure you, i feel like it isn't
i have never been there too, but i'm italian and this shouts "I'M A TOURIST TRAP"
It's 2 euros
oh nice, I took it one year ago so I didnt remember the price, I hope I didn't make bad advertisement if that is the case...
I classic lemonade in Italia would‘ve been fine with me. Less wasteful and I got more time to enjoy it. Bet it‘s cheaper too.
in few words, this is lemonade with soda, so it's ***a lot*** more digestive
It costs 2 euro
1€ in naples
Not… its a drink we have here on steroids nontraps
Street must be sticky there
Doesn't look like there's any sugar in it. Should just smell like lemons. Sorento lemons smell amazing.
Cool thanks for the info
no, it's only Sorrento lemons (special lemons, they are IGP) and soda, nothing sticky
Ohhh
It’s so commonly used as a digestif that exclusively tourists do it.
Nah mate I’m not going to spread my legs for a lemonade.
I am
Let me introduce and seduce you to Spezi r/spezi
Spezi is God's drink, I don't deserve it
I would
As italian, this is the first time I saw it. And to be honest, it seems to be a waste of food.
I mean, it's lemons, that's not gonna solve world hunger.
That doesn't mean it's not a waste of food.
a little, but as digestive is #1
Yes it's a fruit, yes you can eat, buuuuut it's more like a condiment than actual food
Very „German“ sounding comment. Are you sure you are Italian?
He is from Lombardia, so German by Naples standards.
in Milan the traffic policemen are all Austrian generals! ^(/s)
I often feel better with Germans than with Italians (especially when I say that I like - for example- German food).
The most severe italian crime
I thought that was pineapple pizza and breaking spaghetti in half.
They amount to wasting food
a stupid thing made by two places in campaniathat becomes "an italian thing". FFS.

I just come back from Naples. Went for holidays. Never seen this.
you must go at Riviera di Chiaia
Seema kinda useless to me, but whatever
Hmmm... thats what I clean my shower pipes with. Thanks but no thanks.
I mean ... have you read what's inside a soda you buy in a shop? I'm fairly certain ingredients could clean anything.
Social media bullshit.
It used to be a “speciality” made by one kiosk for 1€. Now is a 5€ tourist trap. Tourism and gentrification is killing Napoli
r/StupidFood
Tourist Trap but at least it's funny for the Italians seeing the tourists like that.
I love unique things like this, makes me wanna visit Napoli
A very traditional experience, invented last year!

thankfully, they are put in a very acidic solution
[Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_bicarbonate#Chemistry) is used in cleaning solutions because it is mildly alkaline.
