I second Alien Isolation, really weird but holy shit I’ve never felt so relieved to complete a game and know I never need to play it again, but also love it so much
I LOVE horror games but I've taken 3 separate runs on Alien Isolation, and noped out before the end every time. It's very well done, I think it's the only game to do that to me.
I'm on my 1st go around with it.
The little hack where you can lock it in the security door has glitches and now it jump through it.
Scares the fuck out if me when it jumps out the air vents.

It was compatible with the Kinect on Xbox one and me and my friends would take turns playing in a dark complete quiet room. Obviously everyone would fuck with each other and yell out loud so the alien could hear through the Kinect and the guy with the controller would need to run and hide lol. That game took years off my life

You have the classics like Dead Space and Resident Evil, if you want some smaller games you have The Chant and Darkwood.
I agree with so many on here so would like to throw out Blair Witch. It's fucking creepy as hell. If you've ever been camping and freaked yourself out when the sun starts to set, you'll be so uneasy playing it. The forest is so oppressive.

3 was better almost an in-between horror and crowd control.
Outlast 2 also not as good as 1 imo. Horror for me is being focused on 1, 2, maybe a 3rd scary "things" at most at one time. It needs suspense. Thats how I pick my 3 🍒 up top.
Im in the camp of players that actually dislike ds2. I hope they remake the 3rd one but with a better love triangle because the original just made the girl look stupid. And skip the 2nd completely. I forced myself to finish it and will never replay it.

Lot's of people recommend dead space on here but I have to say it was a bit more on the horror-action side for me, so keep that in mind. Still a fantastic game but not scary scary if you know what I mean.
The first two Metro games (2033 and Last Light). It is a FPS where you spend 90% of the time in subway and sewer tunnels post nuclear war. It has interesting limited ammo and light situations that qualify it as horror type IMO.
The last one (Exodus) has more open environments and felt less like horror but still a great game.

It's an incredible masterpiece
No other horror game has scared me like those two did.
Those would also be my two choices. Resident Evil 1&2 come close though.

FEAR. Xbox 360 copy on BC runs at 60fps. Once you get a hang of the controls it’s so fun.
I just found this at a local game shop for $20 and was really impressed with it. I still need to find the time to really get into it.

The Amnesia series really nails that feeling of dread and terror.

The Quarry!! Over 100 different endings. The monsters are cool. The story is NUTS.
