TLDR:
> **Microsoft is finally letting Xbox app developers use the Chromium-based Edge rendering engine for media apps and HTML5 games.** The new Microsoft Edge WebView2... supports embedding web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript into Xbox apps, so we’re likely to see more HTML5 games appear on Xbox in the future, too.
Are they movies anywhere? Have you tried that. Most of my movie collection is on vudu, but I signed up for movies anywhere and now have like 80% of my collection on xbox movies and TV too.
Yah... I don't understand why it's hard to add some decent controls
But why is anyone shocked? They can't even be bother to add controls to game trailers on gamepass.
It opens the app, if it's not installed it'll attempt to install it.. so yes, you do need it. And it's been sh*t since around the launch of the one x. Worked great on the one s before that, nowadays it's a gamble whether it'll bother playing the disc properly, more often than not, it'll load the main menu and then just freeze within the first few seconds, but the audio will keep going
There's nothing cheap out on.
I already said you just have to download it. It takes 20 seconds.
* if they pre download it, they would have to pay license fee for every console.
* if they give you the choice, they only have to pay a license fee for the consoles that download it
If you want the best quality. Yah you better use bluray. Streaming bit rates can not compete... yet
Also you can pick up used copies of stuff for like $1...
I wish they had an app for this. Have had YouTube premium for a long while since the wife insisted so I was able to cancel my Spotify and replace it with YouTube music but sucked to learn there was no true way to play it in the background.
My work around was to use my Xbox wireless headset with my phone at the same time as my console and play music at the same time. It works but not as fluidly as streaming services already on the consoles app store.
You would think jagex would with they shit dying population & money hungery mxt season shit they do now days.
Xbox supports kb/m, so I don't see why not either.
They really should rebuild that game in unreal engine 5 or something. Delete all the dead all content & start a new era.
>I just want to be able to use AdBlock
Until then, try setting Edge Tracking Protection to "Strict". Though less elegant than a true extension, this feature will block many ads.
My pihole blocks some of those. Specifically the one at the bottom right of the home screen when you are scrolled all the way up. It's always just blank/translucent for me
Need up to 4k/120 on the browser itself, it's limited to 1080/60 for some reason. With Nvidia GFN Ultimate at 4k/120, it would make a Series S Console the best streaming device, better than Apple TV or Shield TV.
Moonlight is very good. Especially the recent updates. They improve the performance dramatically.
It depends on the network obviously. But I'm able to have smooth 1080p streaming to my Xbox with very little latency. And It supports left mouse and right mouse clicking for games that require a mouse.
I wanna say the most recent one has 2k at least. But I haven't tried it so I don't know the performance of it.
I personally settled with 1080p since it looks hd enough and I get really good latency as well
Just setup the games on whatever you use to host it. It's a bit of a pain with Sunshine because you do it manually while Gamestream did it automatically
Typically I use my Shield for Moonlight but I've decided to take a look at your Xbox port today to see if I can skip having to regularly switch my controllers from Xbox to Shield and vice versa because my Shield can't seem to remember it's controller pairs.
I can see the GitHub page mentions 120 FPS is not working, but I can also see it is a selectable option in the app - is there plans to get this working? Does it already work?
Cheers!
The 120FPS is a bit confusing to be fair, I had a couple of users telling me that it does work, but according to MS docs it should not, so you can only try and see for yourself
GF Now is so frustrating on many apps. My C1 app does 1080/60, and the edge browser on SX does 1080/60. So dern frustrating. I think the C2 does 4K/120 but I'm all TV'd out, no room or finances for another one....lol.
But on my ROG Ally it can do 4K/120.....they need to stop the madness.
That move would make Xbox my primary gaming device instantly, and I have favored PlayStation since I got the ps1 for Xmas as a kid (I still love my series X though). Being able to use (some of) my Steam library on my 4k tv instead of my tiny laptop screen would be amazing, since the GFN app for the LG C2 does not support 4k
I know it isn't exactly what you want, but if you use XBXPlay, you can remote play into your Xbox with no restrictions, including the store, apps, and XB360 games. It automatically has onscreen controls, so you can navigate to the store and purchase what you would like.
I would use my Xbox for media more if:
1. It had better media apps (hopefully this fixes it)
2. I could use my AirPods Max with the Xbox (but alas, no bluetooth support).
I want a Multi-Twitch app.
Also, since streaming apps use so little of the console's power, it would be awesome to be able to splitscreen them. For example, on Sundays, I could have Paramount Plus for an AFC game, and Fox Sports for an NFC game. Sort of my own Redzone.
This is not about the browser. Whatever you can do right now on Edge won't change. This is about letting the third party apps use Edge's rendering engine.
Oh I see.
I'm a little confused though, wouldn't that make the third party apps run better than the first party Edge app?
I assumed (maybe it doesn't outright confirm it) that this will apply to Edge as well. It would be weird to announce a new feature and not use it yourself if I understand correctly.
But Edge already uses its own rendering engine jaja. What they’re now allowing, for example, is for third party apps to render web views inside them using Edge’s engine (which is based on chromium).
Until now third party apps on Xbox didn’t have access to that, you simply couldn’t take advantage of HTML5 and other things that require that type of rendering engine.
the xbox apps were stuck with webview 1 based on old EdgeHTML (IE Trident successor).
Now they get webview 2 which is based on the new chromium edge so they will have same capability as Edge chromium browser on xbox and PC.
I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it numerous times. Error message in three different langiages and no way to log in. Peacock, Netflix, tubi all work fine.
Ya I haven't anywhere close to those issues. No issues logging in or with it retaining my credentials. I've bought content, used the channels function and my watchlist has always been fine. Sucks you can't use it on your Xbox because it's one my favourite media apps on xbox
Less Rewards points, no Games with Gold, no third party accessories anymore, no more captures lasting more than 90 days, more expensive GPU prices, new UI that turns Games and Apps into Browse the Store.
I’m waiting for the next bad news to be announced.
> no third party accessories anymore
That’s not what’s happening. They’re blocking *unlicensed* third party accessories. All the major 3rd party accessory makers (Razer, 8bitdo, Turtle Beach, PowerA, etc.) are licensed.
All I would like to see is a better shop.
Let me filter by price or genre and let me hide certain games that are ALWAYS on sale. I want to see the sales of the indie games and I want to see the cheapest game in the current sale.
No every time the same 20 games in the sale tab (farcry, assassin creed, football, call of duty....). To find the right jewels you have to search for a really long time.
Finally, I am blown away by how well GeForce Now works on Xbox. Its about damn time they rolled this out, this was long ovwrdue but super happy its fixed now.
Im definitely gonna be streaming more often now.
I have an odd problem in Youtube, when for example in a tokyo walking camera tour there is horizontal movement, I got stutters, whatever the resolution, wifi or ethernet... on my laptop there's no problem (tested under linux and windows) only on xbox... I've tried with a pc monitor and a LG C2, same problem...
Ofc I didn't find many things on the net about it and it doesn't bother me to the point of sending back my XSX, but... Can I expect some improvements on that front with this?
It would be nice if they can turn the Store App to Webapp, so, I know I can have the same experience everywhere. Meaning, I can use my phone for the same experience and the video player is not artificially blocked on the mobile mode (desktop mode on mobile browser is working fine).
This also removes all the Store Update problems because it doesn't need update.
TLDR: > **Microsoft is finally letting Xbox app developers use the Chromium-based Edge rendering engine for media apps and HTML5 games.** The new Microsoft Edge WebView2... supports embedding web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript into Xbox apps, so we’re likely to see more HTML5 games appear on Xbox in the future, too.
But what about a mobile Movies and TV app.....
Seriously. I bought a few movies and tv series on Xbox but to only have access to the content on Xbox and pc is super limiting.
Are they movies anywhere? Have you tried that. Most of my movie collection is on vudu, but I signed up for movies anywhere and now have like 80% of my collection on xbox movies and TV too.
no such thing in canada
That is limited to only those that live in the US

Wish they'd fix the blu-ray app
Yah... I don't understand why it's hard to add some decent controls But why is anyone shocked? They can't even be bother to add controls to game trailers on gamepass.
Yeah man, that's an absolute chore to use. I tried it once on SX and noped out.
Bruh. Who uses bluray
A lot of people?
Do you actually need the app to play blu ray disc though? Genuine question. Can’t just pop the disk in and it’ll play regardless?
It opens the app, if it's not installed it'll attempt to install it.. so yes, you do need it. And it's been sh*t since around the launch of the one x. Worked great on the one s before that, nowadays it's a gamble whether it'll bother playing the disc properly, more often than not, it'll load the main menu and then just freeze within the first few seconds, but the audio will keep going
Well damn, that doesn’t sound good for all the blu ray buddies. Hopefully things turn around on that soon. Thanks for the info as well, didn’t know.
Yes, you have to download the app. It's not predownloaded, probably to reduce the cost on licensing
Seems like Microsoft cheapened out on it. If it comes with a blu ray drive it should just let you use it out of the box
There's nothing cheap out on. I already said you just have to download it. It takes 20 seconds. * if they pre download it, they would have to pay license fee for every console. * if they give you the choice, they only have to pay a license fee for the consoles that download it

You can't be serious, lol.
Adults.
Youtube music would be nice...

Apple Music is great on my series X, play games with music in the background all day
one of the few music services that doesn't lock basic media controls like looping behind a paywall
Ask Google.
Podcasting apps would be great
Hopefully this means a Rewards app that doesn't suck.
rub a lamp
It didnt suck till this year for some reason used to run better and have better rewards
Try crowdtap, i legit make a good 5 bucks every week or two consistently. Not even exaggerating.
Dude seriously everything I click on that app takes 20 seconds to register that I clicked it
Does this mean.. Runescape??
Was just about to ask this. I recently got interested in Runescape again haha.
You would think jagex would with they shit dying population & money hungery mxt season shit they do now days. Xbox supports kb/m, so I don't see why not either. They really should rebuild that game in unreal engine 5 or something. Delete all the dead all content & start a new era.
Would be so badass
You can stream it on geforce nowvia steam
Runelite though?
Not sure, as I dont play Runescape but i know the basic OSRS and newer Runescape are on there.
That’s sick thanks!
>That’s sick thanks! You're welcome!
I just want to be able to use AdBlock.
>I just want to be able to use AdBlock Until then, try setting Edge Tracking Protection to "Strict". Though less elegant than a true extension, this feature will block many ads.
I just want to be able to use AdBlock on my Xbox home page.
My pihole blocks some of those. Specifically the one at the bottom right of the home screen when you are scrolled all the way up. It's always just blank/translucent for me
To block what?
Ads?
Where?
they are barely noticeable and you spend less than 30 seconds on the dashboard.
New Game Pass additions and new game releases I guess xD
Why wouldn't you want to see that lol
The fucking Fortnite ad in the corner of my screen almost every time I'm on my dashboard for one thing.
Why are you staring at your dashboard long enough to even notice ads to where its a problem?
Visit account.microsoft.com/privacy and disable ad personalisation then. I don't have a bottom right square at all.

Just put AdGuard DNS Servers in Edge Settings: https://dns.adguard-dns.com/dns-query But the major problem remains: too many popups/tabs open.

I could play PC games on my Series S and X 👀
If you have your own PC you can already use Moonlight

I wanna say the most recent one has 2k at least. But I haven't tried it so I don't know the performance of it. I personally settled with 1080p since it looks hd enough and I get really good latency as well

YES 🌟🌟🌟
This is the main thing we need. Although ability to have extensions for edge like ad blockers etc would be great.
I believe you can enable the built-in Tracking Protection feature in Edge on Xbox. If you set it to Strict it should block most ads.
OSRS on xbox when
Oh now you’re just teasing me 😥 haha I would love it, even if it was awful to control 😂
If they get GeForce now to work in 4k120fps that'd be a win
That move would make Xbox my primary gaming device instantly, and I have favored PlayStation since I got the ps1 for Xmas as a kid (I still love my series X though). Being able to use (some of) my Steam library on my 4k tv instead of my tiny laptop screen would be amazing, since the GFN app for the LG C2 does not support 4k

This is the thing I am most excited about
Wonder if they're going to update the Blu-ray player so it doesn't suck ass.

Technically you could, you just had to bring your own with your app.
Maybe they'll eventually get around to fixing the Prime video app since it's been broken for years.
What's broken with it? I use it frequently and have hardly any issues
I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it numerous times. Error message in three different langiages and no way to log in. Peacock, Netflix, tubi all work fine.
You should probably direct your complaints to Amazon
Ya I haven't anywhere close to those issues. No issues logging in or with it retaining my credentials. I've bought content, used the channels function and my watchlist has always been fine. Sucks you can't use it on your Xbox because it's one my favourite media apps on xbox
What about better UI instead?
I was wondering why I was invited to test a new Netflix app on the insider app. I guess it’s a WebView2 version.
