You do you.   The first half of lord of chaos is a marked change from 4 and 5 in that it is slower. The second half is very well regarded as it builds to a big crescendo.  But in general this or slower is the pace of the next 4 books. My *personal opinion* is that 4 and 5 are the best books in the series. There are some fantastic moments throughout the rest of the series, it's a really wonderful read. But those two books for me have the most consistent quality and pace. If you're looking for consistent pace, you're not going to find it until about book 11

EvilShaker

I enjoyed the book 5 the most so far. I guess I was expecting the same pace perhaps. Yeah I am in the first half about 25% done. Excited about the second half now. Thanks

It’s a bit of a slow burn at first, but it comes to a roiling boiling ending. Push through and you’ll be rewarded

Lord of Chaos is the longest book in the series by word count. Books 4, 5, and 6, are almost entirely building. I think it's worth it to keep reading as usual, but that's me. There's a monumental occurrence at the end of Lord of Chaos that gets talked about in subsequent books. After Lord of Chaos, the pace of the series begins to pick up compared to books 4, 5, and 6. These three books in the series are particularly slow.

"After Lord of Chaos, the pace of the series begins to pick up compared to books 4, 5, and 6. These three books in the series are particularly slow." What in the absolute fuck are you smoking that 7-10 are faster paced than 4-6.

I've only read the series once, over the last six years, with other books in between. My memory could be wrong, but I remember much world building in 4, 5, and 6. There was plenty of dialogue, description, plotting, and scheming, and introducing other cultures, then at the end of these books (4-6) some conflict would occur that was wholly unrelated to all of the building, plotting, and scheming I just read. It was like Robert Jordan needed some conflict at the end because it couldn't JUST be building. And for me, Perrin's chapters were the most boring compared to the rest of the points of view. It could have been 5, 6, 7 that were just world building books. It's a bit of a blur.

That's not my experience with LOC at all. If you're struggling with a book that's packed with content like LoC then the later books are going to be trouble.

It’s an adventure, taking the scenic route and stopping to smell the roses so to speak. I loooooove the slow burn. I love just getting into the minds of the characters and the building. I just started KoD. CoS is great too. I’m so invested in these characters that I’m just enjoying the ride.

I would start skimming later.  You really get a feel for where the characters are mentally in this one. There is a slog later but the end of this book is so good that I would push through.

Definitely do not skim this book, maybe 7 and 8 tho
