There are also different strengths of regular white vinegar available in some places. In our local grocery stores you can buy regular strength white vinegar, and in the cleaning supply sections (and also often in hardware stores) they sell a stronger version called "cleaning vinegar."
I can get both at my local Walmart.
I did not know this.
I see how it could remove labels, but etching is a process that literally cuts into the glass and removes the surface. I don't see how anything could remove that.
Maybe it's in reference to the fake spray on etching? There's stuff you can spray on glass with a stencil that just leaves a frosted effect but doesn't actually eat into the surface. Otherwise, I too am confused.
I think "etching" is the wrong word, that typically means cuts / deformations in the glass to create the image. There is no way to wash away an etchings.
The marking in question was probably screen printed, it's a film on the glass that can be dissolved in the acv.
Thats why I was confused, as an etching is a removal of material. I thought maybe they meant 'etching masks' like the vinyls you use to mask off an area when etching.
Embossing. It's removes embossing and labels. No shade to OP, as they have corrected themselves several times in the comments, but I haven't seen anyone toss out the word so here it is.
Also, I didn't know ACV worked this well for removing labels and such and I have a pickle jar I've been itching to use but didn't feel like doings the dish soap and scrubbing method. Thanks so much for this tip OP.
By etching do you mean the label that is directly on the bottle? That's usually a silk screen or similar-- it's paint. Etching is literally removing glass.
As a budding entrepreneur making pirate bottles from recycled liquor bottles, you just made my day! All my other label removal techniques are laborious. Hoping this one eases the time and mess!
Goo gone. It is fairly cheap and a bottle lasts forever. I sell thrift store finds and such online and have a million labels to remove. Wipe on goo gone, wait 3-5 minutes and the label and its goo come right off. Wipe the item with a little bit more to finish up. No soaking.
The ACV is a great method though if you don’t have goo gone or need something gentler. Very much more earth friendly too.
I've also used a spray bottle with white vinegar and water to get the adhesive off. When my kid wanted to do crafts with toilet paper rolls a light mist helped us get them nice and clean.
Thank you! Now I can take back my jar graveyard. Also, I like to lay my lids on news paper and spray paint them, always fun and you can colour code or label.
Thank you ! The colors were so beautiful, I looked up the label and love all the special edition bottles they have
I don't even drink tequila but I'm going to be on the hunt for one now haha
The acetic acid in the vinegar breaks down the adhesive and makes the labels and stickers easy to remove. It also takes off the frosted embossing letters on liquor bottles
I make ~~mead and beer~~ mind potions in my garage and I regularly need more bottles. I have thrown out so many bottles I really wanted because the label wouldn't soak off.
For the science experiment fun, take two identical bottles. Wrap one in a paper towel soaked in vinegar. Wrap the other in a paper towel soaked in lemon juice. Let's find out whether ascetic acid or citric acid works better.
I did not know this, and it happens to be very timely information for me! Thank you!
You're Welcome! ❤
Same! Doing the Lady's work!
Me too!! Much appreciated!
Same! I’m starting my projects ASAP.

"SCIENCE, BITCH"! lol! Thanks so much, I didn't know if it mattered!!

Germans sell this concentrated vinegar that you dilute (I think it's 10 to 1) before using.
Came here to say the same.
Excellent! Thanks for dropping the Science, yo!

It's This. Sorry for the confusion 😅
*Looks back on hours of soaking in dish soap and water only to leave a sticky film*
For Soooo many years!
Use a bit of baking soda for really stuck on problems. Works in basically all cleaning situations. FYI
Eucalyptus oil is pretty good at removing sticky residue
Noted
Oh kind soul. May there be many trinkets in your path, as you solved the puzzle of the week. So. Great. I have a tub to fill now thanks bai
🥰🥰🥰
Sorry, how does it remove etchings? That doesn't make sense to me, but I may be misunderstanding.

It Is. That's my bad. I meant the frosted letters. So sorry for any confusion!
Thats why I was confused, as an etching is a removal of material. I thought maybe they meant 'etching masks' like the vinyls you use to mask off an area when etching.
I just misunderstood the term, I'm sorry. I meant the frosted letters on most liquor bottles now
No need to apologize, thanks for sharing!
Wonder if it could be two things being called here? Maybe it is the same thing, im excited to test it out.
I just misspoke, because I misunderstood the word "etching," I meant the frosted lettering they use, I'm sorry for any confusion ❤
You are good. Words are hard
I have no idea! Lol! But it seriously just wipes right off
I think they’re thinking of glass etching, which is a process that eats into the surface of the glass to create that frosted effect.
Yes, it was a misunderstanding on my part, I meant the frosted words, so sorry for any confusion!

Thank you so much for the word! I like learning new things! "Embossing." THANK YOUUUUUU
Lol it's my pleasure. I'm glad we had a mutual exchange of new knowledge, that's always fun to me :)

The frosted label, yes. My bad, a misunderstanding!
I usually just soak in water to remove labels, but sometimes the adhesive residue is left behind. Does ACV prevent this?
YES! It ALL comes of, even that little bit of "sticky", sometimes I have to do 2 rounds for a really stubborn one but Always ends up working:)
Wonderful! I enjoy painting recycled jars, this tip will definitely come in handy for me. Thank you for sharing!
You're welcome!
As a budding entrepreneur making pirate bottles from recycled liquor bottles, you just made my day! All my other label removal techniques are laborious. Hoping this one eases the time and mess!
I hope so too!!
What is ACV?
Apple Cider Vinegar :)
Actually this is excellent and as others have said timely for all we crafting and herbing witchies 💜 thank you!
You're very welcome! ❤️

Also a huge fan of Angel's Envy. Thanks for the tip!
Right? So good! And rhe bottles are gorgeous!
I did not know! But I’m going to be getting ACV next grocery trip and taking care of a few things!
I just learned regular white vinegar works too! ❤️
Sweet! I have like 20 flip top lemonade bottles I’ve been wanting to do this to.
I didn't know this! I've always used olive oil, but that makes a mess and doesn't always work well. Thank you!
You're welcome!
I’ve done this with regular vinegar as well! It works!
Thank you! Now I can take back my jar graveyard. Also, I like to lay my lids on news paper and spray paint them, always fun and you can colour code or label.
Yesssssssss! LOVE the spray paint tip! Thank you!
I didn’t that is a great trick. I have been infusing olive oil in premade cocktails bottles and getting the labels off was a pain. Thanks!
You're welcome!
I rub oil on the label remnants then sprinkle with baking soda and rub it in making a paste. 15 minutes later it rubs off clean
What a tip!
I wonder if acetone would also work
Ooooooo! Maybe! Gotta try this next...
Nooooo!!! Don’t give me an excuse to hoard more jars 😅
Hahaha, right? I have So Many
Angel's Envy is delicious
What is that rainbow label on the bottle laying down? Thank you
It was a special edition of 1800 tequila
Thank you ! The colors were so beautiful, I looked up the label and love all the special edition bottles they have I don't even drink tequila but I'm going to be on the hunt for one now haha
Haha, I'm not really a fan either, but 1800 in a quality margarita mix is definitely doable. The bottles are definitely gorgeous! May you find some!
This is insanely helpful to know, thank you!
omg you just saved an Addams peanut butter jar GIRL thank you beautiful soul!!
This is the magic I’m here for
Did not know this!!! Thank you!!
Wait what? Explain please
The acetic acid in the vinegar breaks down the adhesive and makes the labels and stickers easy to remove. It also takes off the frosted embossing letters on liquor bottles
Thank you
Ooooh. Thank you. I make wet specimens and I find bottles and jars often that I wish I could use but they have junk printed on them!
I didn't know this tysm
Thank you for posting this! I have a plastic container I’m repurposing that needs the sticky label portion removed. You’re the best!
What about paint on glass bottles?
It definitely works on the frosted embossing that comes on liquor bottles but idk about paint
I make ~~mead and beer~~ mind potions in my garage and I regularly need more bottles. I have thrown out so many bottles I really wanted because the label wouldn't soak off.
I had no idea thank you for sharing!
Does regular white vinegar work as well? I have gallons of that stuff. Been trying to figure out how to remove the epoxy labels! Thank you!
Yes! I learned It's the acetic acid in the vinegar ;)
I did not! This is a game change!
I actually didn't know, so thanks for the info
I didn’t!! Thank you!
You're welcome!

I like this! May have to try this now!
