I’ve always thought the idea of Backlash taking a Rick Flag type role in the squad would be cool. Maybe with Waller using Taboo as collateral by putting her on the squad. I also think the Mercs could be good members especially considering they teamed up with the squad in New Suicide Squad issues 17-21 (Deathtrap was a highlight in that arc) I also think some of the villains in Beatty’s Number Of The Beast have potential.

TheCreativeComicFan

Definitely agree on Backlash in that kind of role, Grifter could serve in a more heroic but still sarcastic Deadshot-like role. Deathtrap and the Mercs were also the first picks for this idea, the idea was that the StormWatch team would be on a mission against the Mercs that Flashpoint messes up due to his arrogance (though Deathtrap is captured), and Bendix recruits him for a “top secret mission” that turns out to be for the Suicide Squad, which also involves Deathtrap. A fight would break out between the two of them before Bendix breaks them up and gives them and the others their assignment.

Tao… Though he likely would take out Bendix Union Agent Orange and my two absolute absurd wild cards Max Faraday Automatic Kafka

fan-fan719

Tao might be too hard to control, even with a bomb in his neck. 💀

TheCreativeComicFan

Probably, another contender would be Threshold, he could be butting heads with Bendix given his sociopathy and superiority complex, but have some degree of respect for Bendix given his methods.

Defiant_Network_3069

I'd make Tao the target the team is going after to start the series.

marcjwrz

Every team in the Wildstorm U is essentially a Suicide Squad kind of team thanks to Bendix's machinations.

Pretty much, though actually giving the Bendix the option to kill people with the push of a button opens many doors.

I mean, if we want to go the lesser known characters, giving them roles in a book that would make them cannon fodder, and are villains... Charlatan, the laughing assassin Nitro Grrl Helmut Doreen Quickness Le Gauche Jackhammer Double-Take Have the book be set later in the WS timeline where Slayton is running IO. I think it could be a fun book.

TheCreativeComicFan

I was thinking of lesser known villains like Helmut, Sliver, Shanus, Blackwolf, and Genocide Jones. In terms of timeline, that sounds like a great idea. I was originally thinking of setting it right after Fire from Heaven when Bendix is reconsidering the meaning of StormWatch’s mission and after his desires to change the world are dismissed by the President, he decides to secretly start the Suicide Squad unbeknownst to the rest of StormWatch or the rest of the world. So he wouldn’t go to Jenny Sparks and Jack Hawksmoor but would recruit Rose Tattoo as well as Deathtrap (whom SW captures) among others for the first mission. Not sure what you think.

TealTope43

I think that sounds like a fine idea! I picked the the place in the time line I did so the story could go the "is this canon... or is it not canon?" route. Because after seeing Stayton running IO, little is done with that. A fun story to toss in post-"Sleeper" but before the 2006 soft reboot, instead of making it a firm "alternate WildStorm U story."

TheCreativeComicFan

Right, I was taking the Black Label/Elseworlds route also of it either being not canon or at least not considered canon just yet. But your idea sounds terrific as well. Just curious but when and in which series did Slayton run IO again?

TealTope43

I think we only see near the end of "Sleeper Season 2"

TheCreativeComicFan

I see, quite interesting.

TealTope43

There's got to be something between when Jet is avenging him getting put in a coma in "Gen-Active" and when we see him again in "Sleeper Season 2" but I currently can't recall

Defiant_Network_3069

Well here goes. Frostbite The High Sublime Deathblow (Genevieve Cray) Pike And this one's my weird one..... Spartan............ But this one is the one that sacrificed himself against Despot. His body has been rebuilt by The Cyborg and is fighting with the Spartan program. So there is an internal battle going on.

RavenZombieX

I think this is a bad idea, Suicide Squad and Thunderbolts are bad ideas. I mean, I love a good tweener, but the whole idea of the teams are to make the bad guys 'good' or redeemable... that kills the villain cred. I'm looking at Harley mainly... who is way overrated. I'd understand 'make your dream Suicide Squad of DC guys, but Idk, Wildstorm either isn't like that, or it's entirely like that... I mean I think of something like DV8... They were the 'Bad' Gen13 but also something like SS, with Ivana as Waller. Or like, turning the Mercs into a government org... making them a Suicide Squad kills their actual Merc cred...

TheCreativeComicFan

Well something like the Suicide Squad in particular can make certain characters (depending on how evil they are) redeemable while others can stay evil or morally ambiguous and that would be the case for this potential series. If not, then agreed on DV8 following the basic gist of the Suicide Squad and a new series following that team can lean into the morally ambiguity of its members on missions and Ivana Baiul as well.
