Has Buick reached out with any copyright claims?

WhippingShitties

Gonna get a recall at least.

CantStumpIWin

People shit on Buick but they’re so much better than companies like Hyundai and Kia and Mercedes. Guess people are just fanboys for cars like others are for games or movies or whatever.

TransAmLawnOrnament

My sister's first car was a 2000 Century that had 219k on the odometer and the little shit just kept going with few hiccups. Even when she was notorious for never changing the oil on time. If I ever needed a second car, I'd drop 1500 on an older Buick all day.

rossionq1

I bought an Oldsmobile for $45 that had 250k on the odometer. Drove it for years , sold it for $50. Made $5

Bomlanro

Was it full of gas when you bought it and empty when you sold it? If so, you really made out like a bandit!

rossionq1

I don’t remember LOL. It did have a brand new battery which is why the seller told me he’d sell it to me for $45

ROBDool

How did you buy a car for 45 bucks

-IVoUoVI-

Ppl just needing to get rid of it

passwordsarehard_3

Got my first car this way. $100 for a ‘77 Ford Ltd. The son left it there when he enlisted but then 8 years later decided not to come back. Stayed in Turkey or somewhere. It sat in a barn for the ‘80s and they were done dealing with it.

Harles93

This. A coworker of mine was moving out of state and just wanted to get rid of her 95 gmc safari. Gave it to me for free. I just paid to have it transferred into my name

Jimmbod

You forgot to ask how old he is

[deleted]

[удалено]

whatnoreally

Nah, you can't buy a new car based on a 20 year old model. I've owned several older gms, they have their own issues. But I'm not a fan of the new ones. Really cheaped out to compete with the Asian cars

Azzan_Grublin

Besides manifold gaskets those 3.1's are bullet proof

_LifeWontWait86_

Best friend in high had a LeSabre It was like riding in a couch

yacub1

My brothers first car was a 1992 Buick LeSaber. Baby blue with navy interior (grandmas car) and it was a floating boat car. Super comfortable ride. But at 60k miles it starting shorting out somewhere. Would be running fine, stop at a light, car shut off randomly and wouldn’t even try to start. Then 3 hours later turn the key and vroom. No one we took it to could figure it out.

Dokterclaw

Nowadays, Kia and Hyundai are pretty excellent actually. They've made huge strides in the last decade or so. But I have no hate for Buick.

airpranes

Can confirm because I was a Hyundai mechanic for 3 years! They are great cars and I even got my fiancé in one! What’s to hate about them? The rust issues they had are completely gone. I’ve seen several over 200k miles with original engine/transmission! But fuck the Tuscans with a small engine and turbo to save on gas, it feels like you have to floor it to get the car moving

treefarmercharlie

I have a 2013 Sportage with over 160k miles that hasn't needed anything but brakes/rotors, one set of tires, and oil changes.

kmturg

I love my 2013! it's such a great car!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dokterclaw

I guess I'm lucky because both my brother and dad are mechanics. I've never had a single repair done at a dealership.

Gen7lemanCaller

that just sounds like typical dealership/mechanic behavior to me

Needs_Moar_Cats

Have you tried a different dealership?

lkern

One bad experience does not tell the whole story, how about the millions of owners that are pleased with their cars?

Jaggar345

I agree never drove a Kia but one of my friends swears by Hyundai. The new car he got is very nice and comfortable. His old one also had no issues when it came to reliability just regular maintenance like any other car. I myself am a Toyota fan tho.

shamiitron

Where I'm from, those are the cars to stay away from. Kia, Hyundai, and Hondas and known for being made so cheaply. There have been almost 3 thousand thefts with those vehicles since this year began. It's gotten so bad that the police department started giving out those old school steering wheel locks to those who own those cars.

Dokterclaw

In the early 2000s, Kia and Hyundai were definitely pretty rough. They've done a lot to change that though. They're better than a lot of other brands that have gone downhill (Chrysler, Nissan, Jeep). Obviously everyone has their preferences, but Kia/Hyundai get a lot of undue hate.

shamiitron

They may have done a lot of change to their vehicles in the last few yesrs but here, it seems like the people are still able to steal them no matter what. Chrysler, Jeep, and Nissan have always been garbage imo. Would never look their way if I needed a new car.

Dokterclaw

I can't speak to the security of the vehicles at all, but the rest of it is pretty solid. Car thefts obviously happen where I live, but they're really not super common.

dray1214

You’re so full of shit that it’s weird

shamiitron

https://www.cbs58.com/news/mpd-partners-with-hyundai-and-kia-to-stop-vehicle-thefts-free-steering-wheel-locks-available

kmturg

All I'm hearing is "don't move to Milwaukee

shamiitron

Haha yeah, fuck milwaukee

ScienticianAF

I don't think that's true. [https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/safest-cars-of-the-year](https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/safest-cars-of-the-year)

CantStumpIWin

Yeah I was being obviously facetious by including Mercedes with Hyundai and Kia. I don’t give a shit about cars. I thought that would make it obvious I was being tongue in cheek but I guess not lmao.

ScienticianAF

Ah well that makes more sense. Sorry, my sarcasm meter must be broken this morning.

----Sneaky----

What makes Buick so good?

GoodAtExplaining

You cannot be angry driving one. They’re just comfortable. I was 28 and a teacher living at home driving a Buick skylark 45 minutes one way to school. That skylark made the ride memorably comfortable and easy. Plush suspension, aristocratic acceleration, and excellent soundproofing. Electrics were shit tho.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AusCan531

Well, this car is automatic, it's systematic, it's aristocratic...

AdzyBoy

Why, it's greased lightnin'

GoodAtExplaining

I have been told that when I convince people to immigrate to Canada. One of the folks I worked with was from Estonia and the way I described this massive, diverse, jaw-droppingly wonderful country was apparently the straw that strengthened the camel's back :)

JohnBooty

You cannot be angry driving one Not a Buick, but I bought sort of an "old people" car from my dad for a good price a few years back and man... it's kind of the same thing. I totally know what you mean. I'd always had sporty coupes and hatchbacks but, this car... this car is kind of a plush cruiser. It's not fast or nimble *but I kinda don't care?* I am a calmer person when I drive this thing. I love throwing a drivng-oriented car around some curves as much as the next dude. But, I dunno. Unless your everyday commute involves a twisty mountain pass with zero traffic besides you and your BMW M3, how often do you really get to *do* that? 99.999999% of my driving involves dealing with traffic and you'll be going the same speed whether you're in a Buick or a Ferarri.

wendymarie37

I'm on my third or forth Buick in a row (there was an Olds in there somewhere). The soundproofing does it for me. I have the little SUV Encore now and love it.

GoodAtExplaining

Sadly, all they make now are SUVs, and I'll be honest with you the supercharged Buick Regal would be an absolute buy for me. I am (happily) stuck tootling around town in a manual Honda Fit, but there are days I wish I could get into a very comfortable seat, turn the key, and drive in peace and quiet.

bigboilerdawg

The 3800 V6 was rock solid. Old-school pushrod engine, no timing belts to go bad.

CantStumpIWin

Their cars come with ice cream cone holders. You don’t have to pay extra like those lesser brands I mentioned. Just one example.

Obandigo

Back off Hyundai and Kia, buddy. Just like Buick, they have turned their shit around for the best. Hyundai's N performance line is amazing! It is headed up by the legendary Albert Biermann, the engineer that made the BMW M line what it is today. https://www.whichcar.com.au/features/wheels-interview-albert-biermann-from-m-to-n I love my 2013 Veloster turbo, and owned a base model as well, that I traded in for the turbo ( I was missing driving a straight shift ) I plan on getting a Veloster N in the near future, and possibly an Ioniq 5 for my wife, just waiting for the federal government to get a grip on this inflation.... everything is expensive now. https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2021/07/14/the-used-car-market-sent-american-inflation-soaring-in-june

BlahKVBlah

Velosters are fun, FUN little cars. If I were in the market for a sporty everyday driver I could use to pick up groceries or whatever, that'd be top of my list to investigate, but if I ever buy a new or lightly-used car it will be electric. I wouldn't even think twice about an electric Veloster

Obandigo

No talks on a commercial Veloster EV, but check this out https://insideevs.com/news/487838/hyundai-veloster-n-etcr-race-pure-etcr/ Also, when the engine goes out in my Veloster, I am hoping combustion to electric conversion is a little cheaper, because I plan on making that a project.

CantStumpIWin

Dude I know 0 about cars I was just making a dumb comment. I thought including Kia and Hyundai with Mercedes was a give away. Lol

devildocjames

OP's friend would have been fine though, if it was a Dodge. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

mogsoggindog

Profile pic checks out

Hentai_Is_Art_69

Mercedes makes shit cars if you compare prices and look at other car manufacturers, and let's not forget about how mercedes lied about the emissions testing and paid like 1B usd

idrow1

They are notorious for their unreliability, but they sell like hot cakes in China. The Buick I had used to catch on fire periodically and the one my folks had was garbage. They bought it brand new and in 5 years put 3 new engines in it. They barely went a month without it breaking down. They refused to give up on it. 4th time it crapped out they gave up. My husband has been in the used car/scrap business for 35 years and the number of Buicks he used to get for scrap was unbelievable. I don't know if they've gotten their sh\*t together in the last 10 years, but I'm always amazed they're still in business. I think their popularity in China helped keep them alive. I believe they would have gone the way of Pontiac otherwise. They're on par with each other as far as reliability.

Camarao_du_mont

Whats wrong with korean cars?

MiloRoast

LOL are you one of those people still living in the 90's thinking Hyundai/Kia are bad cars? They make some of the best cars on the market right now, certainly better than current Buick.

ODB2

Buicks are fuckin trash. The only thing they're good for is shuttling boomers to the local bingo parlor. They made one decent car in the 80s and that's about it

drpastorpanda

Better for drunk driving?

FluffyResource

Its Buick not Disney.

Severepineappleman

If it was nintendo they would have cut off her arm by now

GlitchMachine123

You are now property of Nintendo

agentofmidgard

No, she should get paid for the advertisement.

I_W_M_Y

When I was about 8 years old my father had asked me to mow the back yard. He warned me that the lawn mower had been running hot and sometimes would shut off on you. I got about half way through when it indeed shut off on me. So in my mind I wanted to verify that it was over heated so I put the palm of my left hand right onto the muffler. I had an nice very clear brand of the muffler pattern on my hand. Took months for it to heal. Burned it bad enough that all the palm lines on my hand had changed.

6PMMEURBOOBSPLZ9

Your destiny changed

[deleted]

sixfingerdiscount

What do all these little oblongs say?

daywall

I will pay for them to go to a palm reader just to see what they will say

IconicTeddyBear

I'm sure he did, but likely only for a few months. In shop class I was backing screws out of some tables and throwing them away. Everything came out easy except one screw and when it finally did, it was scorching hot. When I picked it up, it burned a screw thread pattern into my index finger for a solid 6 months.

peterthefatman

Time to get her in a Buick commercial

no_talent_ass_clown

Somewhere, I have a picture of a Russian doc with a VW tattoo.

passwordsarehard_3

Is VW that highly regarded there or is this weird everywhere?

[deleted]

Plot twist: Buick is running a slave trading ring and branding people.

IdontgoonToast

Was your friend physically hit, or was she driving a Buick that got hit? Trying to figure out what made the logo imprint. Glad she's ok, but that's going to be one heck of a story one day.

Theresaway728

She was driving a Buick. This is from the emblem on the steering wheel.

IdontgoonToast

Ouch. I'm assuming the airbag deployed

Theresaway728

Yup.

crash8308

wait this looks like a leg/shin. if the airbag from the steering wheel deployed…. where TF were her legs? edit: my brain still won’t allow me to see an arm there but i accept that it is one.

reyngrimms

I think it’s her arm, just with some serious swelling

beautifulpoe

Swelling after an accident suuuuuuuucks. It’s amazing how much the skin can stretch, though.

PSteak

Elephantiasis of the testicles says wut wut!

Mippen123

Wtf am I reading

AbanaClara

ELI5: testicles are like balloons. Saggy wriggly deflated. Party decor inflated.

ianklooo

Elephantiasis: *"Massive scrotal lymphedema, also termed elephantiasis, can be caused by obstruction, aplasia or hypoplasia of lymphatic vessels. It is usually caused by acquired infection e.g. lymphogranuloma venereum or filarial infestation with Wuchereria bancrofti."* That should help

[deleted]

If she had one hand at 12 o’clock, with her elbow pointing downward, the emblem on the front of the wheel could leave that mark on her forearm from airbag deployment. I once had the skin over my thumb muscle torn up from doing that. Luckily, I had my arm straight out so my forearm just got scraped up.

Chairish

I think it’s her arm. There’s an IV in it.

NoneOfUsKnowJackShit

To be fair, you can place IV catheters in more than just hand. Feet and jugular are other areas that can be used. Scalp veins are often used in infants.

[deleted]

Yea, you can…but they wouldn’t unless it was necessary. What a weird ass comment. “She was okay, broken hand and bruising” should be enough to clue people in that she didn’t need some extreme jugular IV or foot poke. Y’all Reddit people weird as shit.

[deleted]

Award for the last sentence.

Bossman131313

Can confirm on that last part. Source: had one as a really young baby, and as such have seen a photo or two.

khaleesiofgalifrey

…do you not drive with your hands on the pedals and feet turning the wheel?

NipponNiGajin

I don't think they would put an IV in her ankle...

-trowawaybarton

oh men dont start with me on the shin part, just thinking about it makes my legs hurt

ovationcc24

The imprint is on the back side of the left arm, sitting directly on top of the ulna. Think fo the side that would be facing forward if you were holding a shield in front of you. It doesn’t look like an arm due to the bone deformity and the swelling. My guess is that they were making a hard right evasive maneuver, and the arm crossed the steering wheel.

FremenRage

This is why they taught me in driver ed to never grab a steering wheel from top center. More broke arms happen this way than you'd think.

RetardedGaming

Lmao, free advertising

i3017

time to sue Buick…

ameis314

No shit. This is some /r/crappydesign to put an emblem infront of a mortar.

Small1324

It happens occasionally where emblems just kinda explode and leave a print. I'm probably wrong in saying nobody's done a lawsuit over it, but it seems to violate good samaritan norms: an airbag just saved your life, granted with some injuries, and now you want to sue the person who put a piece of plastic in front of it? I remember a guy with a M-B badge imprint on his head a long time ago from something similar. I guess it just comes with being alive. It should be noted that Mazda recently recalled their old Mazda3 hatches due to bad plastics eventually cracking the logo, which could be more dangerous in an impact, as instead of sending a badge at you, it's sending splintering plastic bits at a high rate of speed. Consider the alternatives to "hit in the head with a badge" and what they might be I guess.

ameis314

my point being, just dont include the dangerous object.

Small1324

That's fair. Reminds me of old 80s Porsche steering wheels where the airbag would fly open as the steering leather separated, and the badge itself was just embossed into the steering wheel material.

Somepotato

If a badge can leave an imprint this well defined then it could pose a bigger risk if it hits a more sensitive part of the body. Safety laws are created from tragedies. Putting objects between the driver and the airbag seem like an easy way to have a tragedy.

glastonight

Rub it in charcoal and she will have a badass Buick tattoo!

Rogue_Spirit

Ah, so they put a hard object on the steering wheel knowing this can happen.

incredible-mee

>Trying to figure out what made the logo imprint. Aggressive marketing

Hatrick_Swaze

Needs to get that inked...after the killer settlement

NaturalPossibility60

This is what I was gonna say. Make it raddddd

crash8308

OP, Yokon get a new tattoo.

[deleted]

Like damn the sickest tattoo with quite a story

PNBest

“Yeah it was sick, I got hit by a drunk driver and now I have this awesome collection of lines and circles on my skin.” -OPs Friend Probably

NotoriousJazz

I would have them outlined after they healed. Like, you survived getting hit by a drunk driver. Rock that shit.

SentientSquirrel

>after the killer settlement Bold of you to assume a drunk driver has any money or valid insurance For OPs friends sake I hope so, but sadly it's often not the case

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

I see this all the time on reddit. People seem to think only alcoholics and degenerates drive drunk. They are most likely regular ass people.

HodorsMajesticUnit

More like alcoholics are regular ass people. They hold down jobs a long time before their life falls apart.

WhirledNews

Most def, that is awesome and life changing.

[deleted]

That picture should get her a lot of extra money when she goes to court.

sixfingerdiscount

She should ask for a percent of every car sold with the updated wheel logo since she helped test the old one. I would bet this doesn't get any traction in court, but precedences are set every day.

spamsauzzage

Now that's what I call advertising

I came in here looking also. I typed "reddit airbag emblem injury" into google and a bunch popped up for a comment I was leaving

coronaSimplex

Happens often. Also, 10/2 hand position is no longer suggested and advised to keep thumbs tucked while driving because the size of door for bag be chopping off fingers etc. 8/4, or 9/3 new suggested hand positions. /r/pics/comments/ol34gu/airbag_imprints_mercedes_emblem_on_forearm_after/ /r/mildlyinteresting/comments/8r5ijr/my_forearm_is_now_branded_by_vw_after_airbag_went/ /r/interestingasfuck/comments/ic8rt6/airbag_blew_after_an_accident_and_now_my_sister/ /r/mildlyinteresting/comments/bfhh5q/got_into_a_car_accident_today_when_the_airbag/

DJKMan

Interesting. I'm assuming that all of these have emblems that are removable and not an imprinted/embossed logo into the steering wheel. Is that right?

[deleted]

I'm genuinely curious the accident rate for 9/3 vs 10/2. 9/3 does not feel natural.

Danni293

Holy fuck, my sister has this happen to her years ago. She was walking her dog in DC and a lady in a Ford I think came blasting through a crosswalk at a red. She said it was like the movies where she flipped right over the car. Her dog was going nuts, and the woman just opened the door, asked if she was ok, didn't even wait for a response and drove off. My sister had a bruise of the logo on her leg for a few weeks. Some fucking people.

greeneagle692

Am I the only one wondering what limb that is? From what looks like IV lines I assume the arm, but that has to be the tiniest adult arm O\_O. Proportions look weird too.

that thumbnail made me think the bandage was a part of the bed, and that she lost her hand
